The hotel (now called Sweet Dreams) is looking good from outside but is very basic inside. The shower did not really work but the leaking toilet made for up for it. We were told not to go anywhere so I reckon the neighborhood is not safe. A few minutes away is a gas station with ATM and small supermarket, that... More

Caanan hotel is definitely a budget option but I would not recommend it. It is on a side street in what seemed to be the worse part of town. There are no nearby restaurants or attractions. The hotel's dining room served us only cold french fries because we arrived after 8pm. None of their beverages were cold. Even during the... More

This hotel is tucked away (about 100 meters off the main road), but it is clean, comfortable, and quiet. The staff is friendly and attentive. The manager is very affable, and enjoys listening to as well as telling stories. The menu is fairly typical for East Africa. One concern: no mosquito nets.

At the end of our tour it was good to relax in the evening in this nice hotel. The surrounding area may be not very safe, but the hotel itself is very safe and guarded. Our room was clean and quiet. Ok, some problem with the lock at the door's room but after 2 minutes, the staff helped (very nice... More

Caanan is relatively new and as a result is in great condition. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well-finished and the showers are a real treat after a week of camping. Do order your dinner in advance of going to the restaurant though, everything takes a while to prepare.

The Caanan Hotel is a great choice for budget travellers who need to stay for more than just one night and yet want more than just a backpackers' dorm. The Hotel is well situated in a calm backstreet of the popular Mianzini neighborhood, only 100m off the Arusha-Moshi Road and a 5min Daladala ride from the AICC (Arusha International Conference...
