Located an hour from JRO airport, 30 minutes on a good highway, another 30 down a very poor dirt road, this lodge provides a nice place to start your tour of Tanzania. The food and service were both exemplary. The room was comfortable, however we had to ask for the boiler to be turned on for hot water. WiFi is...

We stayed at this lodge at the beginning and end of our birding safari in Tanzania. The rooms are spacious, the property is amazing with lush grounds and a very attractive swimming pool. The staff was very friendly and attentive. All the meals were served buffet style, although you could order eggs cooked as you want them at breakfast. Lunch...

This lodge is very difficult to review. If I had been asked to review it after the first meal it would have got a very low score (but more on that later...). First the location. Lovely, beautiful grounds with a lake and swimming pool and interesting walks through the woods. There is an abundance of wildlife from butterflies to monkeys...

My mother and I stayed here before and after climbing Kilimanjaro. Even though we arrived quite late at night on arrival, they put out a huge spread for a late dinner, and it was wonderful. The food we had the whole time there was amazing. In the mornings we sat on the veranda and watched the monkeys go by while...

We stayed here after summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro, and I can't think of a better word for this place than to say it's dreamy. With a swimming pool, a pond with a paddle boat, horses, a garden...this property is sprawling. It's tucked away, accessible by very rough roads. It's so private and quiet, the perfect place to decompress after our strenuous...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set in lush gardens amid forest and crystal clear waters on the slopes of Mount Meru, Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge is a wonderful place to relax and simmer in the immense beauty of East Africa. The Lodge has been adapted from an early colonial farmhouse built in the early 20th century and it is one of the oldest family lodges in Arusha. It offers only 10 garden rooms, 2 main house suites and pool cottage with 2 bedrooms, and provides personal service for its residents since 1974. Here you can spend the days amid nature, watching the changing colors of the Kilimanjaro glaciers while sipping drinks on the verandah or hiking in the forest inhabited by colobus and Sykes monkeys as well as hundreds of small animal and bird species. The Lodge is located only 30 minutes away from Kilimanjaro International Airport and Arusha town center and it is a perfect base while on safari in the northern circuit Tanzania. ... more   less
