We stayed 3 nights relaxing in this amazing hillside villa a few kilometres from Galle, but easliy reachable by tuk tuk or taxi.
Room was very spacious with an ensuite walk in shower and separate toilet, also with tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
Pool area and terrace is amazing, with views across the rain forest.
The highlight for us was the owner (Ann) and her local staff who prepared amazing brunch every morning during our stay. Menu is different every day!
Highly recommended!

The staff make this place - the chef is a credit to Ann the owner. We enjoyed some of the best food we tasted in Sri Lanka thanks to the chef making the most wonderful breakfast and lunches for us.
You must ask to see the lunch and dinner menu as not always put out on the table for everyone to see.
Although this property does need a little attention in places, the architecture is amazing! We enjoyed all aspects of this property and especially hearing the peacock in the mornings wake us up.
If you don’t like super hotels like me and after something a little special and off the beaten track - you should consider this place.

Amma Erna: An Enchanting Discovery in Diksmuide and Sri Lanka!
As avid travelers, we accidentally came across Amma Erna during our cycling tour through West Flanders, and what a stroke of luck that was! Anne, the owner, has not only created a wonderful B&B in Diksmuide but also in enchanting Galle, Sri Lanka, a gem that seems to have been born straight from the soul. She encouraged us to travel to Sri Lanka, which we did and we made a tour there and stayed in Amma after Sri Lanka for 4 nights.
Amma Erna exudes authenticity on every level. The building itself seems to whisper with stories from times gone by, while the warm smile of Anne and her staff makes you feel right at home. Every corner, every detail exudes an undeniable charm that you rarely find elsewhere.
It is a real pleasure to be woken up by the sound of nature around you, an experience that is so refreshing and revitalizing. And the breakfast, oh the breakfast! Local organic delicacies that are prepared with love and offer a true feast for the taste buds.
Amma Erna is much more than just a place to stay; it is a journey to the heart of authenticity and hospitality of Sri Lanka. If you are looking for a unique experience that will stay with you for a long time, look no further. A stay here will nourish your soul and remind you of the beauty of simplicity and authenticity.
Owner and hostess Anne gives you tips about the country, places to visit, delicious restaurants, beautiful hotels in the rest of the country. She breathes the soul of Sri Lanka and we were able to enjoy that! Thank you Anne to you and your staff! Last but not least! Don't forget to book an Ayurvedic massage with her therapist! I booked two during our 4 day stay and my friend who is anti massage also enjoyed it!

In the morning u are woken up by monkeys and peacocks, theres no ac but you don’t even need it since theres no windows and you can enjoy the fresh air and feel the breeze. Very private, up the hill, in the nature but only 10min away from the beach and restaurants.
Room is great, very modern with romantic baldachin over your bed. Pool is nice and you get sun for big part of the day if you wish to tan.
Big thanks to Dean for always being in a good mood and smiling and making great coffee.
If we ever return to Srilanka we will definitely stay here again.

Nice quiet place in the jungle but close to Galle and Unawatuna beach. Highly recommend it. Friendly Belgian lady as host and employees who are welcoming everyone as their family. Clean and modern building with nice room and swimming pool. Very tastefull breakfast with more than 7 different plates!

It's a great looking place, but the maintenance is not good. Somehow it gives you a feeling that somebody had a great idea and started building, but right before the end decided to finish it with materials that were not the same quality.
That is not the biggest downer though.
The biggest one is you won't be able to sleep there. It was supposed to be the last two relaxing days of our trip, but I didn't manage to sleep at all. The place doesn't have windows, meaning they have nets instead of glass. So if you wish for a good night rest, go somewhere else, because at night you will be awoken by loud barking of the dogs, it will last forever and then, when they calm down, the near by buddhist temple will start their chanting, then the singing from the mosque, then the roosters, the sounds of the road and then there will be the Sunrise and no blinds to protect your sleep from the light.
The food there is overpriced, nothing special.
There is no jungle there. All around the place there are peoples' homes, dogs, some construction, the road, not too close, but enough to hear it.
There can be problems with hot water. If they say they'll fix it in 10 min, don't belive them. It will take a whole day. Just ask them if they switched on the boiler, cause apparently they tend to switch it off.
Good points: the pool is clean and nice. It is a beautiful place. The staff is nice but might lie about some things.
All in all not worth the money.

On the pics it looks like an amazing place. Beautifully designed with nice rooms. But....
where to start...Most importantly the rooms have no windows (!) and are therefore extremely noisy. We staid two nights and couldn't get much sleep. Order of events; from sunset onward, barking dogs all night long, at 4.30 am the nearby temple switches on their sound-system for you to enjoy their hour-long prayers. At 5 am the local mosque kicks in with their call for prayer. If you are still asleep the sun will wake you up as there is no way to obscure the room.
We had a great looking bath, too bad half of the time there was only cold water to fill it with....
Staff came up with all kinds of excuses why there was no hot water and issue would be resolved in '10 minutes'. Not. After long lasting tiring discussions, management decided to give a 15 usd discount only to find out that we were presented with a bill that was 45 usd too high. Good that we checked. Also, very far from anything
In summary, not what we hoped for

We have just left after the most amazing two days in this villa! It’s literally feels like it’s your own place. We got woken this morning by the monkeys right outside our window. The staff and breakfast were very good and it’s just a short tuc tuc ride from the town. It’s perfect to sit and have a drink in the evening on any of the comfy couches and take in the scenery around you. The views are incredible and the pool is very nice! Highly recommended!

It's rare to find good quality places to stay in Sri Lanka. Prices are high but usually they don't meet your quality expectation. But we were very impressed with Villa Amma Erna. The modern and private setting made it look exclusive. It's clean, staff were friendly and helpful, and food selection was wonderful.
Just an important thing to take note of is to consider the dates you're booking on. Avoid celebratory dates (e.g. New Year's Eve, etc). We stayed there on NYE and we couldn't get a good sleep due to the noise level around the area. There was no window to block the noise, Even though they've provided earplugs. Fireworks were up until 1 AM then we were woken up by chantings from two temples around the area at 5 - 7 AM. So just a precaution...check Sri Lankan calendar too.
It was also quite unfortunate that we didn't try their 3-course meal because the manager forgot to mention it to the chef.
Overall, however, we loved our stay.

Villa Amma Erna is just an amazing experience. There are only a few rooms, so it never feels crowded but always very private. The hotel is located on a hill, surrounded by the tropical flora and fauna of Sri Lanka, just absolutely breathtaking. The staff is super nice and friendly, the breakfast very yummy. But the best thing about Villa Amma Erna are the big and airy rooms, that are absolutely spotless. The windows are all open, protected with mosquito nets and shutters, so at night you can hear all the animals outside and just feel like you're in the middle of the rainforest.
For us it was just the perfect stay and we would gladly stay there again.

Dear Karen,
It's better to take a tuk tuk. It's about 10 minutes to Unawatuna beach.
Warm Regards,
