After several stays in Amans in Southeast Asia, one can ascribe their winning formulas: stunning landscapes, utmost privacy, minimalist design and outstanding, discreet service. Yet after several nights in Amangalla, I was surprised to see most of these winning attributes out of the tickboxes. Having read previous reviews, I came to a conclusion that most disappointments come from not understanding...

We found this beautiful old dame of a hotel in Galle Fort to be an oasis of calm. Lovely attentive service, beautiful food and a great spot on the verandah, away from the midday heat. The curries were divine as was the simple chicken kids meal for our five year old which was devoured without complaint. There are a few...

There is an understandable tendency in hotel reviews to perform a mental checklist, as if to create a calibration scale to separate 4 stars from 5. We noticed a few minor imperfections in the first day of our visit - and probably would not have noticed them if they had occurred anywhere other than an Aman - but the Aman...

We thoroughly enjoyed our two day stay at this majestic hotel. The hotel is exquisite in every way. Our Butler was there on hand to help us with every detail. Dinner was first class, probably one of the best risotto dishes I've had anywhere in the world. Staff were polite, friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this Hotel when visiting Sri...

There are many pretty resorts dotted around Sri Lanka. However, if you are looking for best of the best, the only one you should be considering is Amangalla in Galle. Not only the resort is part of an Unesco world heritage site, but it also has the most luxurious room and best service on the island hands down. The charming...

Trip started badly when arriving in Colombo on a 11pm flight, the airport greeter wasn't immediately standing out to wait for us, then when we found him we spent another 20mins waiting on the curb while he tried to call our driver but got a repeated busy signal. Car service for around US$200 was in an old Toyota Hiace van,...

On the last leg of our journey in Sri Lanka this was the perfect place to chill out and unwind after a hectic but wonderful trip. The staff were attentive and could not do enough to make our stay memorable. It is without doubt one of the best stays we have ever had in all our world travels. Well done...

Even viewing from the veranda the road next to the fortress walls and the beach a visit in this colonial place is a must, very properly maintained, we liked the old English safe near the reception, food very good, especially the char grilled tiger prawns.

Amangalla Resort is located within the walls of the Gallery Fort. The Fort Area dates back more than 400 years, first built and occupied by the Portuguese in 1588. Then captured and extensively expanded by the Dutch in 1649 and then by the British in 1796. The ares reflects all these periods in the architecture at the site. The site...

We only had two nights at the hotel due to our tour schedule. We would have loved to stay longer. The staff remembers everything from how you like your cocktail to how spicy you like your food. The hotel has much history and done in typical Aman style keeping much of the original feel. We hung out in a cabana...
