fourth time here this year. It 's better than other reviewers seem to say, in my experience.
As in all Daejeon hotels you pay for your toiletries; the hotel staff speak above standard English. The breakfast is a buffet, better than the next-door Riviera by far. The restaurants have all been good.
Rooms are good sized but there are no non-smokers.
A few of the rooms in the front of the hotel are less good, but are cheaper. However the fact the hotel is normally full speaks volumes.
The top floor bar is good- bizarrely has Belgian Leffe beer!
Probably best value hotel in Yuseong- bear in mind it's several miles from Daejeon centre, but now there's a metro from Daejeon and Seodaejeon KTX stations whic goes past the Gov't Complex in Dunsan dong/

I wanted find a hotel in Korea but none were listed, and finding Yousung because of a friend was a delightful treat. The Hotel itself is total deluxe with every need taken care of and no tips expected for outstanding service. My room was wonderful with views overlooking the city's night life. There was a nightclub and a couple of restaurants in the hotel itself. The best part was the natural hot spring spa and korean bath that is free to guests. I went walking the streets and the area around is rich with nightclubs, even slot machines, and many restaurants. Korea is a great place as its clean, the people are honest and there is plenty to do if you like being pampered and spoilt. I enjoyed my very relaxing stay here.
You may see my photos of Korea on my Korean album at webshots;

We went to the Yousung Hotel on a family vacation to celebrate the new year. We arrived December 30 and left January 1. Highlights at the hotel for us were the pool and fitness center and it was located within about 10 miles of the different places we hoped to visit in Daejeon. Also the staff was pleasant and brushed the snow from our car after a pretty good overnight snowfall and also let my wife back in our room after we checked out to retrieve an item my daughter had left behind. We got a room with a single bed and a double bed, which proved to be a bit tight for our family of 6 but it was the best we could do in our price range for a room with beds. There were some problems too, which is why I rated the hotel average. There was mold growing along the ceiling near the bathroom door. The rest of the room seemed pretty well maintained. There was shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner in the shower and a bar of soap for the sink, but all other amenities in the bathroom, minus the towels and toilet paper, were there with a note that said the user of them would be charged for their use upon check-out. The pool there was great, but it cost an additional 20,000 won (combined) for me, my 6,4, and 3 year old to use it for two hours. It was also closed New Year's Eve so we woke the kids up early to go swimming New Year's Day before we packed up to check out. At 110,000 won a night, the place seemed fair for the price, but not an excellent value. The immediate surrounding of the hotel is not family friendly. I guess a had a different kind of "spa" in mind when I read about the Yousung area. There were lots of "gentlemen's" clubs around the hotel, the kind this happily married gentleman does not care to venture into, but I suppose if you are looking for that sort of thing then the location of the hotel would be perfect.

After using the hot springs in the hotel, I asked reception how to get somewhere. They rudely asked me what is your room number and when I said I wasn't staying there, I just used the hot spring in their hotel which was quite obvious from my wet hair, they wouldn't help me. Even when I told them the reason I am asking them is because they speak English, they refused to help me. This is supposedly a four star hotel. In most hotels even if you are not staying there and need help getting somewhere, they will help you as it is only common courtesy to help travelers find a place. I was impressed by the hot springs and had thought about staying here some time but after my interaction with reception I will chose some place else in Daejeon. At that time when I asked they were not even busy; there were no other guests there so there was no excuse not to help me.

Stayed overnight as part of business trip to local research places and Chungnam Univ. Inexpensive -around US $110 for single.
Easy from Daejeon station -about US $8 taxi, taking around 30 mins.
Rooms up to western 3*+, good English in hotel. Pleasant quiet location, OK breakfast, good Korean lunch (kalbitchim).
Excellent value- pleasantly surprised.
Interesting to have spa water piped into cold taps in room.
Would be good location for touring to Gongju, Geumgang etc, although we didn't ourselves investigate car hire.

Stayed at the Yousung during a recent international exposition. The hotel is no-frills, clean and the staff are professional, helpful & very friendly. There are Chinese and Korean restaurants, a lobby lounge and a buffet which has a great lunch selection that is quite modestly priced. The health & fitness facilities are extensive, with a spa, sauna, swimming pool and one of the best equipped gymnasiums I have visited in Asia.
The rooms are simple. They are spacious enough with good beds and adequate air-conditioning but there are few of the trimmings that one would find in a 4-star IHG or Starwood group hotel. So if 24hour room-service, the full array of toiletries and a minibar are your thing, you will be disappointed. The Yousung is centrally located in Daejeon, inside the city ring road and really only a 10 minute cab ride from anywhere. The local neighbourhood is sketchy. It looks demure enough during the day, but it seems a little seedy after dark. At no point did I feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
The hotel has a 100 year heritage due to its proximity to the local spa. It has clearly had a number of facelifts over the journey but is a little tired and maybe due for another. That said, if you're looking for a perfectly acceptable place to stay whilst you're doing business or seeing the local sites, the Yousung is fine.

I stayed in Yousung hotel for 3 weeks on a business trip. It was a good stay, it's a pretty decent and clean hotel. Rooms a kind of old and small but i have to say the bed was the worst ever, springs on my back killed me. Breakfast was very good and complete, the sauna area nice. Plenty of places to eat on the surroundings.

Stayed here for 4 nights on a business trip. It was a pleasant stay. All of the necessity amenities were provided. Breakfast food were the same everyday. Lunch buffet was okay. The salad and dessert were good.
No shopping around the area but restaurants and bars were plenty. Overall, no major complaints considering it was a business trip but if you are on a holiday I think other hotels would be more suitable.

This hotel definitely did not meet my expectations. The lobby is very nice but the staff barely spoke English. My room was extremely small and very old looking. Bathroom was stained and you had to pay for every toiletry!!! Internet was free in the room. There was a desktop in the room or you can connect your laptop to a DSL cable. The Internet is quite slow though. Breakfast was pretty good and included i the rate. Yousung is not located centrally but there are plenty of things to do around. The spa is nice but you need to understand what a Korean spa is. It is not your usual spa exeprience. It is more of a bath house than a spa.

My wife and I spent a week in Korea for a late autumn break as we live in the region. We've been to Korea several times before but this was our first stay in Daejeon. We really wanted to stay in a spa town so we chose this hotel. The spa is part of the hotel and is open to the public as well as hotel guests. It is a very nice and relaxing spa that gives a very 'authentic' Korean spa experience!

The hotel is a little way outside Daejeon itself, but well placed for exploring the nearby National Park which has many well marked trails and is well worth a visit.

The traditional Korean restaurant in the hotel serves excellent food and the set menus are a great introducation for those who don't know their way round a Korean menu.

The hotel was lovely, has fast and free Internet access in rooms and staff were always polite and helpful. Highly recommended for spa/hiking/culinary visits.
