We were driving from Tucson and Artesia seemed like a decent place to stay on our way to Carlsbad Caverns. The drive there was exhausting but once there, we were able to get a good night's sleep. The staff was wonderful and helpful.

Stopped here on the way from Taos to the caverns. We arrived late and left in the morning - all seemed fine, other than a weird encounter with a hotel employee / contractor who made unnecessary political comments related to my husband’s shirt (or maybe his ethnicity?) and then

Artesia is a great small town - you drive through the main downtown street to access the hotel. Rooms were clean and kids enjoyed the pool. Breakfast is always a plus when traveling with kids. Front desk was courteous.

It took us right about an hour, but we had to go through heavy fog part of the way. The desk clerk at our hotel told us it would be about an hour drive, so we expected it. By the way, did you know they have a limited number of kennels for dogs? Great for those that are just traveling through!

I was just there in November and the bed was hard as a rock! I'm a Platinum La Quinta member but I had to stay elsewhere. Couldn't sleep a wink. No oilfield workers when I was there or possibly I just missed them. Otherwise, a nice hotel!
