Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Set in lush tropics jungle this resort is beautifully tranquil. Over looking the Ayung river with views of the mountains for peace and relaxation this is definitely the place to stay. Stunningly designed private pool villas give the luxury to relax and watch the jungle wildlife go about it’s daily business, or you can take one of the many trips on offer if your looking to do a little bit more. Rafting on the Ayung river or visiting some of the breathtaking temples, the choices are endless. Very friendly, engaging and helpful staff with great local knowledgeable of the area to help plan your days. The Sayan Terrace cafe has stunning views to enjoy whilst sampling a mix of traditional Indonesian food.

I rarely write reviews but my experience with the management was so terrific I had to share. My daughter and (now) son-in-law were here for her birthday and arriving here after 16 hours travel. I knew they'd be exhausted but wanted to make their stay special. I wrote management to see if I could arrange to have a happy hour waiting for them on arrival. The manager (M. I Made Puspa) responded promptly to all my queries and arranged a lovely presentation for them upon check-in, including printing out the birthday card I'd made.

My kids were more than delighted with the greeting management helped me arrange. They said their stay was perfect, room was clean and comfortable, the view was amazing, and they enjoyed yoga on their patio every morning. (She's an instructor.) They would definitely stay here again and I was thrilled to find lodging where management was so accomodating.

Stay for 3 nights. It was very nice stay, staff in particular was very helpful and always smiling. We stayed in 108 B, I gave 4 rating out of 5, cause of the shower. Either it’s too hot or no hot water it was difficult specially you have kid never know when the fish of hot water just comes out. Apart from that lovely stay would recommend cause view is just amazing, staff are super sweet.

This is a review of some perfect walks that start at the Sayan Terrace Hotel and I would advise ONLY to do with a guide as:

a) its more fun if someone explains to you all the local plants, views and houses

b) the trail is at some points hazardous and also not easy to follow, you might get easily lost

Two general options:

A circuit around the river or following the river initially and the continue to the rice fields

Both walks are around 2-3 hrs at a leisurely pace and lead through some really beautiful areas with abundant local flora !

The guides will usually end the walk in their village where you can taste some organically grown teas and coffees and chocolate, they are also happy to drive you home to your hotel or villa

Did not meet a single other tourist on both walks, but amazing views and real jungle feel.

Make sure you bring adequate footwear, there are some steep and slippery passages and some sections are on small ridges, so you should be surefooted as well.

One guide who is especially good is usually resident at the Terrace Hotel, but can also be booked by phone:

Gusti Ngurah Arya
+62 81 337 364 144

2-3 hr guided tour will set you back around 300k IDR

Highly recommended for some inside into the valleys and the local communities

Words actually cannot begin to tell you how awful this place is. Rundown is an understatement.
Beautiful views an exaggeration
Cleanliness a joke
Food - don't touch it!
Aircon- are you serious?
Security- zero, not a safety deposit box in sight! + no door lock, just a chain and padlock!
Bathroom- you will wish you hadn't bothered, easier to go for a swim.
Swimming pool - ancient just like the whole place.
Staff? Yes, when you can contact them.

2 nd time coming here and is just as good as the last time if not better. They have finished renovating new rooms with own private plunge pool looking straight down onto the valley. Same view as from the four seasons resort next door but at a fraction of the price.

Staff are friendly and happy to help. Little bit out of ubud only 5-10 mins by scooter or taxi, quieter and more private and peaceful than staying in ubud.

Restaurant does very good simple Indonesian meals and soups at reasonable price.

Ubud has become so noisy and crowded since my last visit 20 years ago, it was nice to have this beautiful refuge to return to. Beautiful view from our rooms (110 and 111), We hiked in the river valley and played in the pool. Wayan from the front desk was very helpful. We hired him to take us on a car tour that was great. The resort is a little weathered, but that is part of its charm. It is still family run and reasonably priced. A small fraction of what it costs to stay at the Four Seasons right next door.

We stayed here for three nights. The view we had was stunning as we overlooked the aygung river valley from our poolside villa. Besides the view, the resort wasn't anything spectacular. The food was mediocre at best and the restaurant was three tables in the middle of a lawn. We highly recommend The Sayan House for meals. The food is incredible as it fuses Balinese and Japanese flavours! At Rambutan, there are only two members of staff that speak good English that we communicated with, else we had a very hard time getting our questions answered. It seemed like the staff was not trained properly to work in the hospitality industry and it showed in their lack of communication with us, as well as their fellow staff members.
A helpful suggestion for those booking a driving tour with the resort: be sure to do your research before agreeing to go on it. Get a written list of the sights on the trip from the resort before committing and if you do not want to go there, modify it. We did not get a list of places prior to our day trip and we wish we did so we could have changed it. We saw two beautiful temples, but the other sights (coffee plantation, tourist wood making and painting factories, tour bus restaurant) were sights we could have done without. When checking out, we had to settle our own bill by calculating the cost of everything because there was no English speaking staff member there to assist us. This resort has the potential to be something great. The location itself speaks wonders, and with proper training of the staff, it can definitely begin to rival the Four Seasons resort that is close by.

A bit out of town so useful to have a car. Amazing views and friendly staff. Folk at the four seasons next door a paying 5x the price for the same view and it's more crowded. Besides you can always walk next door to the four seasons to eat or drink.

I was led to this hotel by lonely planet, which highly recommends it. Booking was simple online. Before I left for Bali, I read A House in Bali by Colin McPhee which describes a house that McPhee built on the exact site where Sayan Terrace now sits. Sadly, the house no longer exists. The hotel is a simple transport ride ($3) from Ubud and you'll need a driver to get to and from the town but it's sooo worth it. The view is stunning. Pay a little more for a suite with a deck (only $85). I stayed two nights but wish that I had stayed much longer in this exact spot. Ubud has great restaurants (Bebek Bengil was my fav), great shows (see a Barong dance), and artsy shops. Don't miss the Monkey Forest and use the opportunity to visit the volcanoes. I hired a drver directly through the hotel to see Gunung Batur and Sidemen Road (rice paddies). 7 hours for $50. It seems as though people who work at Sayan Terrace are all part of a large family and you can't help but feel that you are a part of that group.
