We had a very good stay at Tanah Gajah. The hotel grounds are beautiful and spacious, the restaurant is in a unique setting amongst paddy fields, and the pool villa we had was very nicely appointed. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at the restaurant (Nobi, Ayu, Aditya, Aradhana and others) for the great service and for pampering our 5 year old daughter. Nik, our butler, also kept our room spotless and we never felt the need for anything. We also had the chance to join a staff party, which was a nice experience. Thank you to the hotel staff for having us there. There was also a cuddly big elephant placed in our room for our daughter, which made her experience extra special, and this was very thoughtful of the hotel.
While we enjoyed our stay, visitors should note that there is a huge difference between the club suite and pool villa. While in most places, it may just be the dimension which is the difference between two categories of rooms (and of course, no pool), it seems like the two categories of rooms are quite substantially different here. We were booked in a club suite but due to a problem in the room, we were given a free upgrade to a pool villa (and thank you to the hotel for that generosity). This upgrade made a world of difference to our stay. The club suite just does not meet the expectations you arrive with, after browsing their website and reading reviews. The hotel could consider upgrading these rooms and making a few changes. It looks like some work is ongoing, but this should be done quickly. For instance, the woodwork is aging in and around the club suite room we had (no 17), the Lily pond outside had stagnating water, the plants on the trellis outside our room had all died. It looked a bit abandoned. Also, not sure that an outdoor bathroom makes sense in a paddy field setting where there are so many insects. So this review is based entirely on staying in a pool villa, and this is something travellers to this hotel should note.
On the whole, we loved Tanah Gajah and the hospitality and graciousness of the staff and mangement, and the amazing facilities (ride to Ubud, laundry, afternoon tea, cocktails), and would highly recommend the hotel. We will definitely go back if we visit Ubud again.
And as a last note, beware of the mosquitoes and insects! Not the hotel's fault at all, and they do provide mosquito repellant, but better to be prepared mentally for this.

My wife and I stayed at Tanah Gajah for 3 nights. The property is breathtaking.... beautifully manicured gardens, amazing swimming pool area and a well thought out bedroom. The one bedroom villa that we stayed in was spacious and included some amazing artwork. The outdoor bathroom/shower/bath added a unique touch. Nik our butler made out stay extra special with little extras like making sure that we always had fresh ice as well as a fully stocked mini bar. The free shuttle service to Ubed was very helpful and supplying us with a cellphone with the hotel number preprogrammed made using the service very easy. The food was fresh and tasty. The breakfast in particular (Indonesian menu) was a highlight. Sunset cocktails sometimes took a while to be made and served, but the beautiful views and snacks that we enjoyed while waiting made the experience enjoyable. Well worth a stay or visit when visiting Bali.

Our villa is very spacious, we had a king size bed, safe, closets, and individually controlled air conditioning and its own terraces with pool. The rooms are also equipped with a minibar, espresso machine, a kettle, bathrobes and slippers. Guests can get spa treatments and massages for a fee, but we didn't use them. There is an outdoor pool with sun loungers and parasols. Yoga is also offered daily. The staff speaks good English and is sooooo friendly. For quick arrangements or any questions, the hotel invites you to a WhatsApp group, where a few employees are part of the group. The rooms are cleaned every day, every evening someone comes and lowers the blinds, changes the towels. As I said, if you are looking for relaxation and tranquility, this is the place for you. Due to covid19 pandemi, health protocol is one of our most sought aspect when looking for a place to stay. Tanah Gajah Ubud was way above our expectation with vast well maintained open area and staffs that kept health protocol at its highest standard.
With area of 5 ha and only 20 villas, we barely met other guests at close encounter. We had breakfast as floating breakfast in our private pool, and also as picnic on our villa. Tanah Gajah also set our afternoon tea as a picnic at the lake (and there are some swan on the lake!), also can do it around the pool, or at paddy/rice field's traditional gazebo.
The staffs are very helpful and responsive to accommodate all our need. Very comfy ambient, beautiful greeneries, and safe place for relaxing vacation.
Will come back to Tanah Gajah for sure!!

We are frequent global travelers and have never stayed as such a tranquil property. The sprawling grounds were beautifully maintained and there were beautiful art installments, statues, intricately designed buildings and shelters scattered throughout. Black and white swans, resident white doves (who can be hand fed) and koi ponds add to the harmonious atmosphere. The pool villa is elegantly appointed with hand carved furnishings and wood accents. The outdoor space is private and soothing. Each villa is assigned a team of butlers who are there to satisfy every need. You are able to order breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails and enjoy them at any location on the property. Tempayan restaurant capitalizes on its own farm to table ingredients and every meal we had there was fresh and delicious. We decided to spend our last two days simply staying at the hotel and enjoying the property and it was wonderful. We had two massage treatments and they were blissful. From the front desk staff to the butlers, restaurant staff and massage therapists everyone was gracious, friendly and engaging and nothing was too much trouble. We had several delightful conversations and we were treated like family. We are already planning to return next year.

We loved our stay with Tanha Gajah resort. We were travelling as a family of 4 with young adult kids. Right from the airport pickup with courteous drivers and small touches like cold water bottles and a cold towel to wipe your face were small touches that made a big difference for us. We found the resort and hotel staff first class. Set on a gorgeous property amid lush green paddy fields, it was a different kind of resort than we have previously experienced. The whole property is designed by a master architect with special elephant statues all over. We took advantage of the hot-air balloon ride being offered at sunrise, breath taking views. The rooms are like individual bungalows with large spacious rooms. We loved the daily fruits being delivered to the room. We used the shuttle service being offered to ubud city center and also rented the vehicle for day trips around bali. The drivers were very knowledgeable, friendly and gave great insights into local culture and customs. The onsite restaurant staff is also very friendly and courteous with great breakfast served daily. Overall a very memorable experience for us.
The only downside of the resort central location in bali is that we were not able to see the beaches and areas to the north or south as these would be hours long trips and bali roads are narrow and traffic pretty heavy in some areas. In hindsight it is better to book another hotel closer to the locations you want to visit so that you avoid spending a lot time on the road.

Having just spent 4 days at this wonderful hotel, I can report that this place is simply perfection and cannot be bettered. From the fresh biscuits in the room each day to the sublime afternoon tea, the attention to detail is remarkable. Delicious breakfasts to memorable dinners which compare to just about anything out there are all served by staff with beaming smiles on their faces who help to make Tanah Gajah a very special place indeed. With larger well known high end hotel chains on its doorstep, Tanah Gajah can teach them all a lesson, delivering an experience that is both joyful and sophisticated without the formulaic brand promotion that often seems to be the raison d'etre of the bigger corporate boys.

Our stay at the Tanah Gajah was absolutely amazing, it is the perfect place for a relaxing getaway. The staff were very accommodating from the moment we arrived even though our arrival flight was super late. We were able to easily organise airport transfer and check in to our room with no issues. We very much appreciated the check in staff letting us know that although the on site restaurant was closed for the night we could order food through the local food delivery app and they would deliver it to our rooms. We also had a late departure flight home but the staff were very accommodating and organised for us the free transport service to and from Ubud city after our checkout, looked after our luggage and provided us with a hospitality room for us to shower before we left for the airport. The room itself was very comfortable, clean and spacious and we felt very looked after as housekeeping came in very often to refresh our rooms and the booking came with a lot of inclusions. Communication with the staff was also super easy as they set up a Whatsapp group for you to use during your stay so you can message the staff for any requests and reservations which we found to be very helpful. The food was delicious, we thoroughly enjoyed every meal and also enjoyed the afternoon tea and cocktails served daily. I highly recommend the spa at the Tanah Gajah, it was absolutely one of the highlights of my trip. The spa treatments were so luxurious - each treatment starting with a foot soak and scrub overlooking the rice paddy fields and a delicious welcome drink inside a private room that is spacious and comfortable. The spa staff were also all so lovely and attentive. The resort itself was very tranquil and quiet as they only have a few villas on site which meant that we would often get the huge pool to ourselves and we were able to book in reservations for the times we wanted as well. Overall, it was a wonderful and relaxing experience at the Tanah Gajah and we will definitely be coming back in the future.

Unlike other five star hotels that minimize their service in time of covid pandemic (although understandable), Tanah Gajah managed to keep up to their above five star standard in their service, we were impressed by their generosity in giving us upgrades, all included free benefits, excellent service thats undoubtedly better than other five star resorts. Their attention to detail in servicing us is remarkable, making our bed 2 times a day, replenish minibar, washing our car, even to as little as preparing our slippers ready by the bed every night, have impressed us. Anything you ask, They will make it happen for you.

When i said it's a very home like resort, it's because i feel like the whole setting of this villa are very thoughtful. I've been staying at numerous upscale resort in Ubud, i just have no idea why the way this resort welcoming me felt so different. When i arrived, they offered me a refreshment drink along with a bucket of Banana Fried, that was the most delicious Banana Fried i've ever eaten!
After that, my butler took me on a tour circling the resort area. When i entered my suite, although the whole interior seemed a lil bit oudated. The suite instantly making me feel like i'm home. I love the bathroom, the cleanliness, and the space. Again, a very thoughtful touch existed in my suite. I saw the mini bar already has everything that i need, from drinks like beer, milk, softdrinks, water, coffee, cookies, matcha powder (if im not mistaken), even bottles of liquors lining up on the table! (Yep, it was gin, vodka, and whiskey!). Another good news is they will refilling them up for free and will fill up your mini bar once a day as part of their club benefits!
Not just that, when it's 4pm you can also head to their Tempayan restaurant, who is being located in the middle of their rice paddy and overlook their hot air balloon. At 4pm until 6pm, u can enjoy a complimentary afternoon tea, followed by complimentary cocktail hours.
You can also swim in their main giant sized swimming pool, or hang out at their tapas bar while drinking your cocktail and watching the sunset.
Another highlight from my stay here is their breakfast. It was delicious!!!!!! I love their truffle scented scrambled egg and the bread basket especially the Pain Au Chocolat. I must say, the place really knows how to serve good food and it won't disappoint you. Because whenever i'm visiti ng Ubud, i always looking forward to eat and this place truly fulfilled my appetite when i'm there. 😂
Overall, i am truly recommend this place for those of you who plan in visiting Ubud alone, with your friends, partner, and even your kids cause this place is very kids friendly.

We are delighted to inform you that our swimming pools are not heated. As the temperature in Ubud is quite warm throughout the day (around 26-32 centigrade) therefore the water in the swimming pool is in ideal temperature.

The hot air balloon ride itself takes about 7 - 10 minutes overlooking panoramic views of lush tropical forests of Ubud to holy Mount Agung on the eastern horizon.
For non-staying guests, we package the hot air balloon ride with our delightful Food & Beverage offerings. You will be able to enjoy a wonderful breakfast should you take the morning flight (anytime between 6:30 - 8:30 am) or fly in late afternoon (from 5:30 - 7:00pm) and enjoy our afternoon tea. Both flights cost USD 150 nett for two adults.

The best time is really in the morning because the chance of getting the wind steady is there and you will see beautiful scenery in the morning.
Try to come between 6.30 - 8am, otherwise after those time the wind is starting to get unstable. Sunday or Monday does not matter
we visited in May when all was lush and green. since the weather and rainfall are more or less the same throuh the year i assume that its green in December
