My 2 daughters and I were greeted with a lovely welcome drink, warm towels, a nice smile. Rooms are traditional and well maintained. We were thrilled that our mini bar was stocked on arrival and the contents were complimentary! The hotels setting is stunning, however it is perched on a steep hill and you will constantly be walking up and down stairs. This is not a hotel for guests with disabilities or medical conditions. The spa is well priced and magically positioned in a grotto like cave above a running river. It was quite unique. Be careful though, the stones under foot are very slippery. Breakfast was a reasonably good assortment of western and local food and there was an egg station (which I always really enjoy) to have your eggs prepared to your specifications. Unfortunately the tea (as usual in Bali) was terribly weak and I had to ask for extra teabags each morning. The location of this hotel is excellent as it is a 10-15 min walk to town, or you can use the hotel shuttle if you are too hot and bothered to walk. There is a also a mini-mart across the road for supplies which was great. Considering this hotel was built in the 1920’s it is very well presented and feels ‘traditional’ rather than dated. The pools are original but very pleasant and seem to be filled with either fresh or mineral water, not your typical salt or chlorine. We swam in the main pool daily and my daughters and I could not believe how soft and shiny our hair was throughout our stay. We didn’t need to wash our hair once. It was lovely to lay by the pool, listen to the birds and enjoy the jungle setting, especially in the mornings and later in the afternoon. Unfortunately there are no umbrellas by the pool beds, so through the middle of the day when the sun is scorching hot, it is impossible to stay by the pool for an extended time and enjoy a drink and read a book. A great asset to this hotel is its friendly, accomodating staff. I would like to pass on a special thank you to Duty Manager Aryan who went out of his way to assist us with moving to more appropriate room on our second day. Nothing was too much trouble for him and his delightful team. Overall, I would recommend this charming hotel and I would definitely stay again.

I'm not for booking based purely on photos but I made an exception when it came to the Hotel Thampuhan & Spa as it looked amazing and was where we wanted to be-

Let me tell you we got way more than what we bargained for. We received discount vouchers upon arrival, a fully stocked mini fridge which we did not have to pay for- on top of all of this the drivers at the hotel and staff made sure we saw everything we wanted to see without the hassle of having to organise our own transport. Plus, upon comparison they worked out to be cheaper too!

We were so sad we didn't stay longer but will definitely be back!

Cannot recommend them enough; who doesn't want to be in a forest feeling secluded whilst knowing all you need is readily available?

This Happened during the Christmas day.

Reception Staff are very helpful and happy:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

the view from the Reception area with all greens tress and strumming of the river below us it was a dream.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Accommodation experience:
we had some issues from the location of our room to the reception main street area was too far from us were we located (acceptable)

The room is old and not well maintained far from what your money valued for.

Door locks are not safe when you leave and sleeping, they are just an ordinary pod locks and anytime someone will get inside your room for all you know. (scary)

Showers we have multiple complaints the water pressure are very low and damage so we need to call the maintenance department to fixed, then again? its not working. but we are very tired of complaining about it. (we don’t want to ruin the christmas)

Beds and Blankets are very itchy i thought it was they called a “Bed Bugs” it was a very bad sleep but again we are tired of complaining it to them.

well the best part is when you don’t need the air conditioning during the night because maybe it was the monsoon season and the weather of the forest complimented each other that saves our mood.

Breakfast are acceptable specially when you’re on a budget its a big help.

but nonetheless it was a good experience with its Historical value and designs as the ever first “Hotel” in Bali Indonesia.

To the Management,
i know covid hits us hard specially the tourism industry, but sheer your lights more when it comes to the “Maintenance aspects” in general you know what i mean.

Instagramable worth it.

Only good thing about this place is Location which is beautiful and very close to the nature, but the hotel itself really needs to invest some money to improve and update its facilities, like rooms (which only look good in pictures) , beds, mattresses, pillows, doors, windows, restaurant area, poolside area, spa area, overall everything needs to be updated, everything is so old, dingy and shabby. Also there is nothing good about the service apart from smily staff. We did not use any facility at hotel like spa (free for us ) and swimming pool as they were not maintained to our standards. We used their massage service as part of our package deal and the massage and the masseuse was not bad but again the serious improvements are required in the massage area.

I booked Tjampuhan Honeymoon Package directly with the hotel on their website, thinking that we will be treated as a honeymoon couple should be treated but it was a huge disappointment. Apart from old dingy room and badly maintained facilities the service was not up to standards. According to our Tjampuhan Honeymoon Package we should have been provided with a basket of fruit on arrival but we were disappointed to see a basket with 4 pieces of fruit , with one of the fruit had fungus on it so we did not bother to touch the fruit (the value of the fruit basket was not more than 20000IDR = £1.10). We were also offered a candle light dinner as a part of our package but after having breakfast and lunch in their restaurant few times, we did not bother to go for it as we did not find their food tasty. Also they have a set menu for this deal and we did not like anything on the menu. We ask hotel to cancel our dinner which we supposed to have had one night before our check out. I was surprised that the hotel management did not bother to ask us why we rejected their candle light dinner as it was part of our deal. They did not even bother to ask anything about their services or questions like how was our stay or something like that at the time of check out. They just took the full payment, gave us the bill and thats it nothing else.

I will not recommend this hotel for this price (£70/night) I think we did not receive the service and quality for the value of money we paid, I would not mind staying this place if I had paid £30 or £35 per night. One more thing, It was also mentioned in the package that we will be given a surprised gift on our check out but no one from hotel management mentioned anything. I am mentioning these little things only because they were mentioned and highlighted as part of our package. We did not make any complains to the hotel for any of the above mention things and shortcomings as we did not want to waste our time and energy for negative things and also it was a short 4 night stay. However if we had stayed longer I probably would have complained but I don't think they would have dealt with any these issues professionally as the staff clearly lacked that level of professionalism for customer care.

Hotel Tjampuhan is like having your own villa in Ubud. While being a rather large capacity resort the grounds are laid out so you feel like you are in your own villa overlooking your own private gardens. I looked out from my balcony to see flowering frangipani trees, coconut palms, exotic ferns and peaceful doves.

The open air restaurant is featured in many photos because it simply is gorgeous. The buffet breakfast is generous with choices of typical Indonesian foods, continental pastries, fresh fruits, and eggs made to order. The restaurant staff is there to ensure you have all you need.

I stayed in a double room at the top of the resort, which was in a building of only 3 rooms. It was spacious, comfortable, clean and decorated beautifully with Indonesian art and textiles. The balcony was a godsend with a table and chairs as well as a clothes drying rack, perfect for swimsuits. I actually wish I had enjoyed less of my balcony and more of the very inviting communal guest areas which looked like a great place to have cocktails or just to read and relax.

Within walking distance to the heart of Ubud you can get anywhere you need to. If you need a taxi the very eager sarong clad staff will get one for you, wish you well and welcome you back. I also suggest you walk up the hill to the Bintang Market, which is a large super market where you can get food, souvenirs, school supplies, produce, roast chicken, insect repellent, and everything else you might need. Of course staying at Tjampuhan means you don't need anything but your swimsuit and sun glasses.

The spa at Tjampuhan is famous and is not to be missed. It's a grotto and almost every inch is covered with rock carvings of frogs, turtles, and other creatures. Your stay at the hotel gets you a complimentary ½ day visit to the spa but you will also want to enjoy any of their services. I started with 2 hours soaking in the hot/ cold pools then enjoyed a Balinese massage, salt scrub, yogurt hydration and flower bath. Since you can't walk 20 feet in Ubud without seeing another day spa you could certainly find other spas for less money, but Tjampuhan Spa is very enjoyable and peaceful with the sounds of the river relaxing you. My only observation is that the spa facilities seem in need of an update. It's just out dated enough to feel tired, and not old enough to be vintage.

This was a great value for such a nicely appointed hotel with attentive staff. I would return here but might spend a bit more and stay in one of their thatched villas that date back to the mid-20th century. Perfect for a soulful single retreat or a group vacation to explore Ubud.

Spectacular grounds, ornate carvings all throughout, alot of steps for different levels, this is definitely a place for relaxation. This is definitely a place for the able bodied as there are no lifts.
Be aware it does require maintenance, but the shower over the bath is nice and hot with good water pressure. You only get a large towel each, no face cloths or hand towels available even if you ask. Lovely staff always checking in on you. It is air-conditioned however with no mosquito nets/doors and a large gap under wooden front door be vigilant at night have a good spray with you.
Do not order steak or lamb rack as it's definitely not what is expected and disappointing, always order their cuisine as it's perfectly cooked with delightful flavours 😊

I desperately wanted to give this place a really good review but found myself unable to.

The hotel is set on the banks of a valley so there are lots of steps up and down, this is not for you if you are mobility impaired. Rooms that re closer to the top of the valley are nearer the road and suffer from road noise which is incessant, although they do have their own private balcony.

We had a superior room which was well furnished in traditional Balinese style, a king size bed and plenty of room to move about as well as a private balcony, a separate bathroom is provided.

Breakfast is included although nothing to write home about, I ended up having omelette each day as I found the local breakfast over dreary (fried noodles for breakfast …). The orange juice isn’t, it is reconstituted and not too great. The coffee and tea were equally bad, luckily just over the road is a good coffee shop where Americanos can be bought at a reasonable price.

Service is hit and miss with me needing to prompt the staff on several occasions about room make up, more than one error in missing towels or room not being made up at all that needed to be resolved. The bar service is odd, over slow and they frequently miss things and get orders wrong - I had to comment on this more than once during my stay.

The hotel doesn’t seem able to order taxis, and given the lunatic traffic and pavements that look like they have been in a war zone will grate.

I didn’t use it but I am told that the Spa facilities are good.

I have been coming to this hotel for over 25 years now and it really is my home away from home. The thing that makes this place so special is the location, set in the jungle on the side of a gorge overlooking the Oos River amongst beautiful lush gardens it is an oasis away from the busy streets of Ubud. The rooms are traditional Balinese style and although they are slighty, dated they are very clean, comfortable and have air conditioning and plenty of hot water. I would like to thank Hotel Manager, Gusti Ngurah who is always able to assist with any issues and Wayan Sudra and Ketut Nadi for always welcoming us like family.

One of the oldest hotels in Ubud, this adds to the charm and character of the place. It is well maintained and about a 10-15 min walk to Ubud town and 5 min walk to the Campuhan Ridge Walk.

From the moment you set eyes on it, the tropical gardens/rainforest on the hillside has you relaxing and the service is fantastic! The refreshing cold towels and drink whilst you check in is great especially after a long flight and the one hour drive to get here from the airport (at 10pm in the evening)! There are also 2 swimming pools to choose from. We loved it so much we stayed for 3 nights!

Breakfast buffet is delicious with eggs cooked your way and different buffet options each morning. My husband and I did notice that there is no beef or bacon at breakfast but assume this is out of respect to those guests that are of Hindu or the Islamic faith. Unsure about the lunch or dinner menu as we ate in town.

I was excited to book here because I knew of the excellent location and incredible views of the river and valley. I knew of the fantastic spa. I knew it was a real landmark in Ubud. I was however nervous due to many reviews, most coming just at the tail end of the pandemic, indicating the hotel had fallen into disappear or had mildewy smelling rooms.

It is not Ubud's most trendy or modern property--My room had lots of dark wood, a motif from another era. But from what I can tell deferred maintenance has been caught up on, and the hotel is shining in most of her glory. I had a giant room with a huge balcony and a decent if dated bathroom. A comfy firm bed. Refrigerator in room. Immaculate, friendly service. A fairly glorious breakfast buffet included in my daily room price of about $33 US.

My friend who lives in Ubud took me around to a lot of really fancy newer resorts, most of which had rooms that cost $120 to $280 a night. At none of them did I feel they had so much more to offer than Tjampuhan to be worth that kind of coin to me. And none of them were just on the edge of town, away from the heart of crazy busyness but still close enough to be so convenient.

I'm a fan of Tjampuhan. Give it a try! It's a big place, I'm sure if you don't love your room they will do everything they can to help you be happy to be there.

Hello, does the hotel offer pick up from the airport
Answer from Zee H
I am not sure, Please ask hotel directly but I am guessing that they will charge you extra for this. The hotel is quite far from the airport. You can also arrange taxi at the airport when you arrive. You will encounter many taxi booking people on your way to collect luggage at Bali airport. You can also go to taxi stand and get a meter taxi. For your convenience to understand fair price for this journey, we paid 400K IDR from hotel to Denpesar. It might give you some idea of the price.
