I went to this place after 25 years. It was such a pleasure going back the same drive. The lovely forest trees, sunlight falling behind the manicured lawns, were just wonderful. It is like going back in time.

A stay in this palace will take you to the British colonial period as well as the royality of the Mysore kingdom. It is spread across around 50 acres and literally needs an hours walk to cover the whole area. The palace is wooden to the core and grandness can be seen in the pics displayed from the by gone...

We had been to the restaurant at the Palace. the restaurant place is big, with all pictures of Kings and their family on the walls. The range is also normal (you are in a palace). we have been here for morning breakfast and loved it. They serve English breakfast too. the scene is also pretty awesome. worth a visit to...

Visited their restaurant with my family for dinner. It is very conveniently located with nice interiors and sufficient car parking facility. There was both buffet and alacart available and we chose alacart as we felt the buffet will be too heavy. We ordered some rice pulav, naans & rotis, vegetarian side dishes from the menu. Of course it took some...

As the name of the hotel suggests it is indeed a royal palace stay. The rooms are royal the expanse of food served is royal, the land around the palace makes you feel royal. Indeed a ROYAL experience. Ooty in general has spoiled its scenic beauty. The ooty I had visited while I was young was completely different than the...

The Palace has a history and is at a nice place to stay in Ooty . The rooms are spacious but the beds are a bit smaller . You only feel like royalty but not in terms of service. The wi fi , and the telephones were not working due to a thunderstorm earlier but could not be restored, even...

Though the rest of Ooty is hot, the climate inside the hotel premises is very pleasant. Warm hospitality....Situated in the heart of the town...but surprisingly serene....Good for a short break to escape from the boiling summer... but I think will be very cold during winter and pre and post winter months.

I wish I had taken off my rose coloured glasses and taken notice of the bad reviews of this place. I think a lot of people have though as we rattled around feeling like we were the only ones there. I think the Welcome Heritage people have a lot to answer for as the staff were all friendly and helpful,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Fernhills Palace is the summer palace of the Mysore Maharajas. It was built in 1844 by Capt. F. Cotton. It changed several hands as the time went by till mid-1860s, when it was temporarily named Moonesami and served as one of the Ooty's earliest club hotels. The year was 1873 when Ferrnhills Palace found a new royal owner. His Highness Chamarajendra Wadiyar X is the first Indian royal to buy an English holding in Ooty. Since then Ferrnhills Royale Palace has been with the Wadiyar dynasty and today it continues in the capable hands of His Highness Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wadiyar.
