It is an altogether different experience to stay inside the fort, and Rajmandir definitely provides an excellent choice in this regard. The most striking part of staying at Rajmandir is his owner, Mr. Suresh Kewalia, and his manger cum cook, Mr. Deepu. Whereas Mr. Kewalia is a straight and honest person who thinks more from his heart than his head, Mr. Deepu is a very hard-working and easily accessible manager who is very helpful and a very good cook. The paranthas prepared by Mr. Deepu for the breakfast are probably the best. My wife and I stayed in a super deluxe room (No. 105), which is a lavish, spacious room with breathtaking view of the city. The water supplied in the bathroom is always very hot. The breakfast is given in the room or at the terrace on the top with an excellent view of the city. The property has five rooms, two at the ground floor level and three at the first floor level. It is managed basically by Mr. Deepu and a young boy. Auto-rickshaws are available to take you from the fort parking or the fort gate to the property. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rajmandir.

Our experience of staying inside the Fort in this small boutique hotel was above and beyond our expectations.
We adored our quaintly decorated room with the view over Jaisalmer city from the window seat that was such a comfy place to relax.
Deepu and staff were so friendly and always there to attend to any needs.
From picking us up from train station at 6am to finding us power charges as our own adaptors were too slow.
Upon arrival I'll always remember watchng the sunrise from the rooftop restaurant while being served a delicious breakfast. It was a spectacularly breathtaking view.
Jaisalmer was our favorite place in Rajasthan and I feel this was from the experience of staying in the fort and great service of staff.

This lovely boutique hotel was home for 5 days. Staying in the fort is the best way to experience the magic of jaisalmer. By night the fort is cleared of crowds and very quiet to walk around. Deepu and Iran were our lovely hosts and they were so kind to make our family feel so welcomed. The view from our room and the roof top was amazing. Anything we needed they attended to quickly and efficiently such as clothes washing or tips where to shop and eat. This is a small hotel where solo travellers would feel comfortable as well as families. Thanks again for making our stay so happy.

A small quaint hotel inside the fort and is situated right near the entrance of the fort. Need to walk less than 500m from entrance to hotel. Since autos not allowed they take your luggage in a bike. Run by the family itself they are very supportive and wanted to specifically mention than the owner family helped me get sabooth namak from nearby shop for my throat pain. They bought from nearby shop and passed it on to me as I was boarding the vehicle to leave.

Lovely hotel in the Fort, very clean with great views and fabulous staff. Not realising that we had to pay cash for the accommodation when checking out and not having enough cash on us they trusted us enough to do a transfer for payment. Unfortunately transfer bounced back into our account and we had contact with them for the next month trying to get the payment through. They were very patient and trusting of us while waiting for their money.

We stayed at Raj Mandir for 4 days! It was Spectacular! The location within the Fort is a quiet corner with a beautiful Rooftop Restaurant. The Room was Beautifully decorated. The Food was Delicious in the restaurant. MOST Important was the staff! The manager is Deepu Singh…a Kinder, More Hospitable, Generous Human would be hard to find. Deepu attends to Every Guest Need with such attentive Care. He is excellent at his job…and creating an atmosphere that feels like Home. We will return to Raj Mandir and cannot wait! A Highlight of our 2 Months traveling throughout India!

Hotel Rajmandir was definitely the best hotel inside the fort. Mr. Suresh and all his staff were very friendly, accommodating and helpful. As a solo traveler, i had a lot of worries but they made sure that everything’s good and I was safe. They arranged everything for me from airport pick up to camel tour! The hotel room was very nice and the view is spectacular. Every morning, i had a great view of the whole Jaisalmer city.

The camel safari tour offered by Hotel Rajmandir was also one of a kind experience. I can say that it was one of the highlights of may stay in India. It was very authentic, not touristy and totally perfect. Will definitely choose this hotel again for everything!!

5 star hotel for an affordable price!

The owner is a very pleasant man, his staff are always waiting to serve you. The rooms are beautiful, clean and the water is hot! A very good thing after 4 days without a bath! We're participants in the rickshaw run and spent several days travelling and staying in hostels. We splurged and couldn't be happier!

The rajmandir is a beautiful hotel tucked away in a nice corner of the fort. The staff were incredibly helpful (we arrived in the middle of the night and opened a room for us because I was ill and needed a bathroom) and breakfast was great (especially the pickle). But when their boss arrived a weird time came over their voice that "big boss" wants to see you. When we went downstairs he had a very long sit down with us about doing his camel safari and he just wouldn't let it go even though we said we didn't want one. Every time we walked in and out of the hotel he continued to truly harass us about it and our relationship soured quickly. We stayed the two nights we booked online and got out of there. The camel safari push was extremely off putting and way over priced given what we know now. Jaisalmer is our regular hang out spot in India and since speaking with other people afterward it didn't seem like a unique experience to us. Also the hotel is very over priced for what you get. If you are exceptionally hard nosed maybe you can stave him off but we had no shot and it really ruined our stay there by feeling dread every time we would walk in or out.

7 of us, looking for a spot to spend the last few days of the decade, were mostly clinical - balancing budget and experience - and compromising on none. This was a democratic discussion and like any such activity, it stretched over, longer (than necessary), and over 2 months, during which we made atleast 12-14, exploratory phone calls with Rajmandir and a dozen other places. Finally, post a nearly RFP-like process we honed in on Rajmandir for our 5 day stay – from the 30th of Dec’10 – through the 3rd of Jan’11. And then, like any democracy, we procrastinated the money transfer for 2-3 weeks. It was October/November'10 and nearing peak season, however, the folks from Rajmandir – remained warm as ever through our urban & overseas bickering.

Sureshji, or Suresh Kewalia, is more a host, and less of a hotel owner. His warmth and concern makes the strongest case for this place, you should call home, when in Jaisalmer, and if you do, you will be living in a cozy corner of a 900 yr old fort-hotel, a minute’s walk from the main square at the fort, own a bastion-terrace (super) – overlookin the town/sunrise and the Gadi-Sagar Lake (check my photo). What, at $40-$75 a night – this is one big deal of a bargain.

On wicker chairs with a warm cup of tea, you lounge, soaking and drawing lungfuls of crisp and clean air, feeling the nip and caress of a breezy desert morning, bursts of abrupt pigeon-wing-flutter as they shake the cold and night away, fly in chaotic formations around the fort, and the horizon leaks in the familiar yellow of a reluctant lazy sun, slowly ridding the rooftops of their light-misty hue and easing the town out of grey, and into gold. So that there are your mornings :).

The rooms are good, they are clean, cozy, fairly comfortable and the loos, while creative, are functional & fine. Cleanliness is a big plus here. Beds are great for a good sleep, should you need any supplies, the hotel crew/staff is more than willing to go the extra 100 miles to keep you comfortable. Breakfasts, are highly enjoyable with the view, as are nightcaps on the fantastic terraces at Rajmandir.

The place felt like home, we would sit & chat and interact with Sureshji, he would provide us with helpful & more than helpful advice, connections & deals around the place. I would highly recommend his word as I would his place. Would also recommend Mr. Brij Gopa, a historian/guide for Jaisalmer. I have travelled with him more than 3-4 times with different groups - and he's just been the best. Another connection that Sureshji, will gladly make for you.

There are a bunch of places in and outside the fort for lunch/dinner, you would rarely dine in your hotel/ barring gobbling up the bread+omlettes with tea/coffee in the morning. The hotel's near to everywhere in the fort, situated at a minutes walk from the main square. This is absolutely the place to stay - infusing warmth for your heart, wallet & minds.
