That has to be the Golden Dune Camps single biggest feature. It's deep inside the Sam sand dunes, ensuring none of the cacophony of the multitudes of desert camps lining the highway invades you.
The tents are spacious, comfortable and well laid out with every amenity you'd need. The bathrooms especially are brilliant with the stone work and the lovely shower area.
I especially liked the way the tents are laid out. While every other campsite has this very standard square or rectangular layout, golden dune Camps are grouped into two distinct sections, laid out in an oval. This makes the entire layout more warm and personal without appearing regimented.
Even the entertainment & bonfire area, the lovely tree bar, the dining area are all distant enough from the tents so as not to disturb the occupants. Even the entertainment for the evening is sans any loudspeakers, just plain natural notes from the folk musicians.
Service is warm and the food is lovely. Try the lamb! Overall the feel is definitely that of a frontier town with the dunes right in the background, the skies bright and sunny and the qcr s of space. I had an absolutely brilliant time here, spent two nights and will definitely be back here if Jaisalmer ever beckons again!

Golden Dunes is a smaller more intimate site, not like some of the larger sites on the main road. From Golden Dunes you cannot see any other sites and have a feeling of being away from it all. The staff are wonderful and we received 5* treatment. The tent is large with a bathroom attached behind – we were in the ‘swiss cottage’ therefore had 24 hour hot water and electricity. We cannot comment on the shower as it was so cold we didn’t take our clothes off for 3 days and 2 nights – sleeping fully clothed with hats and gloves, don’t go in December! One night is sufficient – the evenings entertainment is lovely, we all sat around the fire and chatted – take your own drink – although there is an inexpensive bar. The food was tasty and hot. If you arrived at the bus station it is a 45 minute drive to the camp and cost us £16. We would recommend this lovely camp, the staff are so helpful and kind and speak good English. It is a fun experience for one night. The camel ride was included in Agoda price – lovely to see the sunset whilst riding a very tall camel through the Thar desert.

AVOID. I went here 3 years ago with my mother on New Years Eve when the prices were half as much, and we had a nice time. This time with my own family in NYE, prices have more than doubled, and I was assured by the manager that they'd made big improvements. Aside from some of the tents being green instead of white and the bathrooms having some different tile, I noticed no improvements or positive changes. I was there with my 6 year old, and the buffet still wasn't open at 8pm, and I was told it would be open at 830. We gave up waiting at 840, as it still wasn't open, and he was tired and cranky from lack of food...so we put him to bed without eating. We ate a bit later, and it was some of (if not THE) worst food I've ever eaten in India, and I've been to India 3 times and have now spent over 9 months traveling to all corners of India (from Punjab to Nagaland to Kerala), so I have a lot of experience eating in India. The food was bad, the MC for the evening was annoying (and it takes a lot for me), so we gave up on New Years and just went to bed. Then, at 2am, my wife woke up feeling sick and vomited many times. 2 hours later, I was also sick and vomiting. Our son was completely fine. Aside from this meal, we had shared every other meal for the past few days with our son, so this was the only meal just the two of us shared, and only she and I were sick. I have a strong stomach (I travel all over the world every winter) and eat plenty of street food and food at dhabas without any problem, yet this incredibly overpriced and utterly tasteless meal got us both sick. Totally ruined our New Years, and we were sick for the whole of New Years day, unable to keep anything down, to that extent that we had to pull over so I could vomit the water I was trying to keep down. Avoid, avoid, avoid. With so many options for camel camps, I recommend you go *anywhere* else.

I should add that they apparently didn't feed the drivers until 10pm and only gave them one cup of tea the whole night (we arrived around 3pm), and the next morning my driver had to make the tea for the whole staff because no one else did/would. I take just as much issue with treating our driver poorly as treating the guests poorly. He agreed that the food was horrible, and this is a driver who *never* has a bad word to say and one who I've known over the years.

Dear Sir, First and foremost I on behalf of my team at Golden Dune Camp tender apologies for the inconveniences caused to the esteemed guest Mr.Robert & Family. Knowing that they were repeat guest we were greatful to have them once again. It was not our endeavour to cause inconvenience and we understand that we are in the service industry. Dinner was served between 8:30 - 45 pm. If we were informed earlier we could have arranged early dinner for the little one. We had done our best to serve quality and delicious dinner since it was special evening and no other guests reported sickness however we will be extra cautious in future. I recall having met Mrs.Robert as she came to ask for extra blankets while the new year celebrations were going on and some of our inbound guests were having dinner in the restaurant. I also inquired if they had dinner and also recall asking if their son had too. She replied that he had slept early. Wish I had understood then. I once again apologize in failing to meet up to the expectation of the guests. Please advise as to how we can compensate. Regards, Alok Rathi Golden Dune Camp.

The saving grace of the camp is that it's far from the madding crowd and you will be away from the main road and after that you better be prepared for a down hill experience.

Stayed here on the 31st Dec and was regretting having made the choice. Guests comprised of people staying in the tents and from outside as well. The snacks ran out in no time, the servings were very basic.

The tents were not clean and considering it was winter, getting hot water was a challenge. The tent was so basic that they didn't cater even to a bottle of water and glasses. The sheets were dirty and one could not use the quilts provided. Quilts seemed as if they'd been left in a room full of mildew and had never seen the sun.

When one goes to camps, you are not looking at luxury. All you need is a clean bed, hot water and the very basics. This camp had none of the basics either.

Dear Mr.Ashwin, We are indeed not surprised to what you have said since you have not even stayed at Golden Dune Camp on 25th October 2018. These are the facts and submissions from our side: - You had visited our property along with The guests Ms.Claudia and other two who were booked with us to stay by their travel agent Go India Journeys. - You and your three more friends who were riding on Bullet Motorbikes told our Camp Manager that you are the staff of Ms.Ciaudia and therefore very arrogantly forced our Camp Manager to provide accommodation and other services Free Of Cost. - You were politely declined and informed that the camp as per the voucher is to provide serviced only to Ms.Ciaudia and other two foreigners accompanying her. - In the evening you forcefully entered the camp premises drunken along with your fellow riders and carrying a beer bottle and headed straight to the activity area where the guest were enjoying the evening cultural program. - I clearly remember meeting with you and asking you to leave the premises since you were drunk and telling me that you went there to give the beer bottle to the guest. - We fail to understand that with what authority you forced your entry. Just because you wanted to be entertained free of cost and were refused by the management you go on to defame us. We have reported this indecent to the Local travel agent and the principal agent. regards, Alok Rathi Director Golden Dune Camp.

first - the location of the camp is bizarre. the good thing is that it is not on main road or where most of the camp clusters are, but the bad thing is, it has no road connectivity and the only thing these guys have done to chart out a direction is, lay down few small white painted rocks. it may be okay to reach this place in day light, but after sunset- it is scary!!
second - the hospitality was pathetic by the senior members of management. for every wrong thing happening on their part, the manager mr.vinit was blaming it on either the house keeping boy or the cook or other helpers
third - the dinner was beyond being pathetic. it was tasteless and stale. paneer was harder than a stone and roti was stretching like a rubber. the list is endless. only after registering a complaint, the meal was slightly improved the next morning at breakfast
fourth - they lied about what all amenities they provide to drivers who come along with the visitors. on being asked about their policy, they said that drivers are given staff quarters and if they dont use it, they are given blankets to sleep in their cars and also are given meals. neither was out driver given any blanket nor cottage nor was he allowed to approach to us to send some message. he was strictly disallowed from entering into even the reception area. inhumane treatment.
fifth - the owner Mr. Alok, i don't know what does this man think of himself. on being asked about the cultural programme, he gives "gyaan" about supreme court ruling that music is not allowed after 10.30 pm. For his correction, the ruling says 10pm and at his own camp, the programme (attended by barely 5 people) continued til 11pm. not just this, since our package did not include cultural night, time and again they kept mentioning that we were not allowed to enter to that area, as if by having a glimpse of the same was also a crime. even before wishing a "hello" at the reception, mr. vinit's first line was - "your package doesn't include cultural evening and safari". we saw the cultural event at some other resort, and came at the golden dune camp only for night stay.
the saving point was - the condition of the camp. the room/tent is spacious and clean and comfortable.

please don't go to this place if you count on hospitality, because they are cold and un-accommodating plus non-cooperative, they over charge for everything right from jeep safari to camel safari and even the meals are not worth the price.
They only make fake claims about the level of comfort they provide.

Great location, off the highway and away from the crowded Sam camping sites which are all bundled together . This property is very well maintained & right next to some lovely dunes. They provide camel rides, dune bashing. Perfect place to view a wonderful sunset. Good spacious rooms. Very good washroom areas with hot water. Great service. They go to lengths to make you comfortable. I would love to go back to this place for a longer time.

I recently visited Sam, Jaisalmer with bunch of my friends and happen to stay at the Golden Dunes Campsite, best part is this campsite is away from the clutter of other campsites on the highway so it was so peaceful. The hospitality was good and the staff is quite friendly.
Enjoyed my experience and for sure coming back soon with my family
Keep up the good work

I've been to a few other campsites near the Sam Sand Dunes, and this is by far the best one there. One of the best parts about it is the fact that it's not right on the main road alongside the numerous other campsites that are lined up one after the other. Another great benefit of this campsite is the fact that it's right next to a stunning sand dune which isn't crowded like the dunes on the main road. This campsite also definitely the most tastefully designed camp there, with tents that are well spaced out and plenty of places to just sit back and relax. The tents were very roomy, the bathroom was great and I think it's is the only camp there with a ceiling-mounted fan in the tents. And that is MUCH better than the pedestal fans that are provided in the other camps, especially when it starts getting hot.

Coming to the food and hospitality, again, full marks here. The staff were very courteous and welcoming and would go out of their way to help you with what you want. The food was always fresh and only the best dishes were served.

The cultural programme too was in a class of its own, with what I would assume are some of the best performers in that region. Additionally, the camp didn't use a barrage of speakers to unnecessarily amplify the performance and disturb the environment as all the other camps did.
