This is a nice little collection of cottages on a quiet secluded well kept garden just minutes away from the action on the cliff. The place is well designed and looked after and has nice touches - thought the cottages would have been nicer distributed around the garden rather than sitting so close to each other. The rooms are simple...

Having spent months and months in India over the last 14 years and experienced all kinds of accommodation all over the country, I can say that this is right up there at the top of the pile. The rooms, food, environment and vibe are great and very different from most others along the clifftop, the yoga's good, it's set back...

After carefull considerations of where to stay - during our extended family adventure during x-mas and new year 2010-11 we decided on Bohemian Masala. Our choise turned out to be succesfull. We soon understood the values of Susan and Danesh and the way the run this place. Build with the heart for genuine indian culture - respecting nature and protecting...

We moved to 'The Bohemian Masala' after going their for dinner. We saw what we were missing and managed to get a room somehow. We loved the laid back atmosphere and the close proximity to the best yoga in town. The service was spot and with Om, Kailash and the team making us feel right at home. Thanks guys it...

'Masala' is, according to the cheff at The Bohemian Masala, like a DJ - combining different spices to best suit the mood. The Bohemian Masala did just that for my grilfriend and I. We stayed for both Christmas and New Years. Excelent relaxation, great people, better food and wonderful cottages. WE SHALL RETURN! Thank you Susan, Danesh and Sonny -...

On our honeymoon we stayed five days at this special place to relax, enjoy the beach and do some yoga. This place is neatly tucked away so that you feel miles away from the crowds. The staff are super friendly and the home cooked food is incredible. If you are tired of the usual Varkala fare, where every restaurant offers...

This is where we saw 2011 in. We were staying elsewhere but ate there twice during out 4 day stay in Varkala. It has the most appealing ambience. It is good fresh food and the service honest and welcoming. It has an open kitchen whereas I am sure you really don't want to see in any other kitchens in Varkala....

One can see why the place has it's enthusiasts, it's tucked away from the main hustle and bustle of the cliffs and the dining space is undoubtedly lovely. But reading the blurb, it ain't cheap, no rooms have hot water and there's no sea views, and it is undeniably expensive for Varkhala. We eat there a mix of seafood and...

The property is beautifully landscaped and our cosmic cottage was tastefully decorated. We had a nice stay and really enjoyed the 2 hour yoga class each morning. We were really looking forward to the stay and the website and their philosophy sounded very appealing. However we were a little disappointed with our experience, mainly due to the lacking customer service....

We stayed here for 4 nights during a tour of Kerala and were so glad that we picked it as opposed to anywhere else on the cliff. As a previous reviewer said, it's a different class. The hosts were warm and welcoming and the vibe is very laid back. The cottages were clean and comfortable (we had a Universe cottage)...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
It's another world, the Varkala beach resort. Built around the eco-concept, it borrows its architecture from the natural science of the tribals. The handmade cottages made with mud, clay and flowers ensure maximum natural energy air flow, translate that into cool even during summer. In the midst of a thick green cover, and a 5-minute walk from the cliffs and the beach, V Resorts Bohemian Masala stands apart from the other beach resorts in Varkala. The resort promising all the sensual pursuits of a traveller, such as traditional temples, beaches, an eclectic food scene, as well as Ayurvedic massages, is ideal for a peaceful, tranquil vacation. Lounge around in the hammocks in peace and quiet, sample the traditional Kerala fare, walk around its herb and spice garden, or just sit around and meet interesting travellers from across the world. Those times, when you do feel like a walk, step out and hit the beach, indulge in water sports, or try your skills at surfing. ... more   less
