Very lovely property with lovely thatched roof bungalows with great cross ventilation. Indigenous trees throughout the well manicured grounds are lovely and labeled for interest. Eco friendly to point of having their own water bottling plant to use glass reusable rather than plastic bottles. Food was uniformly good and I can particularly recommend the soups made from organic ingredients from...

On an early morning walk, you can see a hundred species of plants all neatly labelled. Pomegranate, ebony, jackfruit. The naturalist has made a note on the blackboard (which also lists the activities for the day – chef’s demo, Classical dance program) that the cannonball tree is in bloom. Sure enough, the flowers (shaped like a serpent’s hood cascade down...

Self contained and sensational. This self contained and certified organic resort is set close to the Periyar tiger reserve, and a stay here is the perfect way to appreciate and respect the environment. Recreating the mood of local tribal community, the resort architects have designed individual cottages amongst a landscaped spice garden. Each dwelling is thatched with elephant grass. The...

This is a lovely Eco Lodge developed around the original cottage of one of the first forest rangers of the area in the British Raj era. We stayed in one of their luxury villas, turned out to be the very one Paul McCartney stayed in 2002. The villa had a traditional elephant grass roofs, was very spacious and well appointed...

Spice village is an exceptionally pleasant place to stay with many sustainability initiatives. Join a tour around the resort to learn about their composting, water bottling and effluent treatment facilities. The pool here is great - icy cold but crisp and clean and next to the main restaurant. Great buffet breakfasts and dinner at the 59-mile radius restaurant was superb!...

We stayed one night and the way the hotel is set out is so nice. All rooms are little bungalows and well equipped. Whilst there go to the Kung Fu, show spice plantation and Tea plantation. Lots of little restaurants around and our friends used the hotel Spa which was very good.

Had a good time. The resort lacked good infrastructure for aged travellers although wheelchair service was provided. Rooms were clean and a firmer mattress was provided upon request. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Spice Village is an eco resort in the hills(thekkady) near the Periyar wildlife sanctuary. A cluster of tribal style huts set in a beautiful spice garden is a great escape for most tourists from the heat of the plains, and also a great place for some adventure activities. We have a comfortable pool, an ayurvedic spa, we organise treks into the forest, bamboo rafting and many more. A walk through the property itself is a great way to explore many aspects of nature and the green initiatives undertaken at this eco resort. ... more   less
