If you are looking for peace and quiet in a lovely setting, this place is for you. There are only 2 rooms (which are pleasant and adequate), but the best part is the lovely covered deck and deck chairs to enjoy the river & mangroves, & waking up to the sounds of the river & birds. The staff are lovely and accomodating. The lodge is on a tidal river and it is worth kayaking around to salt lake (ask the staff -Solo, Lili, Simon or Osea for details on best time to go). It’s located 30 mins outside of Savusavu, so it’s easiest if you have your own car to get around, but they can organise transfers for you otherwise. There is not much to do which is perfect for what we wanted; although there are activities listed that the staff can organise if you want. You can opt to pay for meals to be made for you, but we self catered (lunch & dinner) and we’re allowed to use the kitchen. We didn’t have mobile reception at the lodge (Digicel) but they have wifi. A lovely hidden spot in the hidden paradise- highly recommended for those wanting a unique peaceful experience.

Salt Lake Lodge is a true hidden gem nestled by a stunning tidal river, offering a peaceful and rejuvenating escape. The serene setting, surrounded by nature, creates the perfect atmosphere for relaxation. The food is absolutely delicious, with fresh and flavourful meals that make each dining experience a delight. We loved it! The lodge itself has a quaint and tranquil charm, with comfortable beds ensuring a restful night’s sleep. Friendly staff went above and beyond to us feel welcome and their adorable pets added sweet character. A perfect retreat for those seeking natural beauty and peace.

Several locals recommended Salt Lake Lodge to us and not long after the Fijian borders reopened after COVID-19 we visited Vanua Levu, Fiji's second largest island, for Christmas.
Our friends recommendations were fully vindicated. The location is about 25 minutes drive from Savusavu and 20 minutes from the airport. Along a short off-road track, easily accessible for standard cars, the accommodation is hidden away in its own tropical paradise. Lush greenery, palms, coconut trees and beautiful tropical plants and flowers are the first impressions.
The SLL friendly team welcomed us warmly and showed us to our cosy lodge overlooking the river, pontoon and private sandy beach. The river is an estuary with the changing tides dictating the activities for the day, a trip by kayak or drift to the Salt Lake or the opposite way to the Koro Sea and the uninhabited island just off shore.
The team are more than helpful, they provide the most delicious breakfasts and if you wish a chefs service for lunch and dinner. This time we self catered but we can confirm he truly is an exceptional chef from a previous visit to Savusavu. If you prefer to self cater there is a kitchen available for guests use or you can also dine out in Savusavu. We spent time talking about the local area with the team of Simon (Levardi), Lilly, Osea and Soro. Nothing was too much trouble in this idyllic part of Fiji and we would strongly recommend a visit.
Outside of SLL you could walk down to the beautiful Natewa Bay, go snorkeling or diving to see some of the best corals in Fiji, walk along the seashore, go fishing and a trip to a waterfall was also available.
This can be your base for either relaxing, exploring or for sports either sedentary or extreme. You should not miss out if you plan to visit Vanua Levu.

We have just returned from 6 nights at this idyllic place, and wish we could have stayed longer. Very remote lush location, we had the place to ourselves. After some initial confusion over food arrangements we realised that for a reasonable daily fee we were provided our own private chef, Oscar!
Visiting local markets, villages and road side stalls for ingredients with Oscar was a treat in itself with the end result magnificent meals provided each day. Even a birthday cake for our son.
The fishing is extraordinary and the staff, Solo, Oscar, Li Li and Simon (the best boat captain) were extremely welcoming and accomodating to all of our needs. Some great excursions, especially to the waterfall were excellent. Local diving and snorkelling in Natewa Bay was stunning.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights and we were so sad to leave at the end of our stay! The people who work here really take pride in the lodge and all seem to genuinely like working there together. The food prepared by Osea was the absolute best we had in our entire month long trip, and the breakfast that he prepared was the best breakfast that I have ever had. If you are trying to decide whether paying for meals is worth it, just do it, you will not regret it! The lodge itself is really beautiful and a very relaxing place to be, but it is really the people who work here that make the place so amazing.

Now this was an experience! You are very very cut off with no internet nor phone access at all. But Simon might take you on the boat to the sea for a “message race”, or you can take a walk along the road to a bend where there will be connection. But - you can also walk off on the road that leads you high up on the mountain. The view is spectacular from there! And, up there you’ll have full wifi access.
By the jetty you can watch colourful fish swimming. And for fun you can take a canoe and go with the tide out to the ocean, snorkel about a bit and then hop in the canoe and follow the tide back to the hut after a couple of hours - Because the river outside is tidal and fills the salt water lake that you will pass if you take the hike I previously mentioned.
Your care takers are fun, chatty, super helpful and full of top notch advice. Talk to them. This island is huge! And sooooo beautiful. And people shouting Bula (it actually means “life” - how beautiful is that???) at you as you pass will leave the smile on your face for a long time. The downside for me at the lodge was the isolation. I came in an unfortunate time as well since everyone were celebrating new years. So for a couple of days there was nobody around at all. Tip here: Rent a car! Vinaka vakalevu

Salt Lake Lodge was honestly a home away from home. The staff were so kind and made us feel like we were family. We had booked our stay the week of my 30th birthday and they made it a birthday I will never forget. Thank you for that! The lodge is secluded, so you get to have the salt lake and beach all to yourself. The private chef made some of the best food I've ever had and tailored the meals to accommodate all of our different preferences. I definitely hope to return in the near future! Thank you for an amazing experience!

We loved this special place. We wanted to stay a little bit out of town for the peace and privacy. It was so serene and I loved the sounds of nature as I fell to sleep and woke. All the staff we met were lovely, Lili, Simon, Jr, Maria and Osea. Thank you for taking care of us. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfasts were lovely washing returned quickly. I chose to have the Chef service during my stay and it was the best decision. Thank you Osea, we loved every dish. I hope to return soon to see everyone again and explore more of the river / activities. Thank you all, I loved meeting you all.

I can not say enough about this hidden gem, beautiful beyond anything I expected. The staff was amazing, the chef prepared dishes fit for royalty. This is the perfect getaway for friends, couples, or anyone wanting to unwind and disconnect from the rat race of life. Thank you for making our stay amazing!

What a breath of fresh air - literally! We recently spent 8 nights at Salt Lake Lodge on our first trip to Fiji and it was excellent. If you need city life, electronic stimulation and all mod cons then this is not the place for you. However, if you really want to kick back, chill and experience the real pace of Fijian life and get an insight into the beauty of the place then you won`t go wrong here. The seclusion and scenery compliment each other and if you like water activities and fishing then its perfect. Solo, Oscar, Lily and Lavardi run the place and are on hand to help your stay run smoothly. Always smiling and happy to chat honestly about Fijian life, they made our stay a real delight. Oscar the chef has many years experience and every meal he cooked was wonderful. Being 30 - 40 minutes from Savu Savu, we opted for Oscar to cater all week and that included fish we caught and Mud crabs that were caught in the Salt Lake river that fronts the resort. The cost of provisions from Savu Savu is quite high, and with only 2 villa`s there is not much food actually on the property so you pay for the ingredients. It would benefit you to email ahead with a list of the basics you will need to start your holiday and Solo will arrange to get these in for you. The accommodation is kept very clean by Lily everyday and washing can be done at $10.00 Fijian per load. There are numerous other touristy resorts around Savu Savu but we were so glad we didn`t opt for them as this was perfect for us. Thanks again to Solo, Oscar, Lily and Lavardi for a wonderful week.
