My wife and I spent a week here in one of the stand alone rooms (400 sqft). The view was amazing and the room was decent. The AC was a lifesaver - especially on the last day to help dry out our dive gear. The tub on the deck wasn't great. I wouldn't let it factor into your decision to book this room. It is very isolated. Unless you are looking for some serious quiet time, I'd recommended renting a car while you are here. We rented a 4x4 jimmy and the driveway wasn't a problem. The owners (Mario and his wife) were very friendly and accommodating. There were ants in the room (very small and no biting). While the owners were sympathetic, the ants are apparently a problem without a solution.

OMG what a view. However a very steep drive up here. Once here you don’t go back to town in a hurry but if you are prepared it’s fab. Bring your beer/wine. Tatiana is a fab cook. Insect repellent a must. But relax sun pool view. Exercise. Amazing I will be back

Response from MarioH1153, Owner at Korovesi Sunshine Villas
Responded 5 Feb 2020
Thank you for being our guest and for your nice words. Unfortunately the road standard in Fiji is not like in overseas but view, privacy, security, pool, meals and maids make it all forget and no need to be a mountain goat - our taxi driver brings you where ever you want :-)

We stayed at Korovesi in December 2019. We booked 2 rooms. I would like to highlight that this accomodation would be great for couples/friends, BUT IT IS NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. The accomodation is set about 3-4 minutes out on a rocky road, high up in a mountain. The accomodation itself is built on the side of a mountain. It has beautiful views from one of the rooms we stayed in. The pool separated the 2 rooms we booked and only had a narrow tiled pool side to go from room to room. You can hear conversations from other guests in their rooms. The pool is 2.4m deep from memory & the fencing is just 2x wires, so not safe if you're a child, miss a step or even intoxicated (as it's build on the side of a mountain/hill) There was no aircon in our rooms, just an industrial fan. The shower felt as if the floor hadn't been cleaned for a while. Please note, this accomodation can be booked on various sites and will only provide toilet paper, towels etc for the first day and all else is to be provided on your own. Taxis are $10 to town and $10 back but must use the taxis mentioned (3 drivers available) as not all taxis would drive up the rocky mountain road. If it was cleaner, with a bit more security around the accomodation & had a better road, I would book again with my husband or friends. In current state, wouldn't book again, even without my toddler.

Beautiful villas with a beautiful view. We felt very rested here. The room was beautiful and big with a nice bathroom. High a top a mountain with lots of privacy. It was surrounded by lots of exotic fruits. Pineapple plants, papaya trees, banana trees. We walked to Savusavu town and it was a pleasant walk. Beautiful scenery and photo opportunities. I would recommend it. Only thing is that you need to go up and down the hill to get to town by a special taxi which has 4WD capacity. We had to get a local sim as you need to cal the taxi. It costs $10 to get to town each time. And $10 to get from town. Also there are sometimes insects and very loud geckos in the rooms. Also the hot tub only has cold water. Would recommend this as a lovely place to stay in savusavu.

We stayed in one of the villas for 2 nights in July and we really liked it! The owners are super friendly and helpful! And the house girls are very friendly. The villa was clean and had everything you need! The view was breathtaking! The pool was nice and refreshing! The only downside is the very bad road which you have to take to get there and the very poor (actually not working) WiFi. Everything else was great! Thanks Tatjana and Mario!!!

So, as a solo traveller who likes to be very independent and maybe a little more adventurous this was absolutely my style of accommodation. I stayed in the Vanilla Villa (Pool Apartment 1/superior Villa suite - ie many different sites give many different descriptions) Functional little kitchen with a small assortment of pots, pans, utensils, good working fridge and good gastop burner. You'll need your own oil and cooking supplies and unless you're after more than just basics then this is perfect. It's not Gordon Ramsay's kitchen and it doesn't need to be :) The view is spectacular and true to the photos. Mario (owner) actually apologised for the garden growing in the way of the view at the moment but explained they will grow bigger and the view will then be uninterrupted by garden. For a view to be as good as this then it means some serious elevation which many reviewers have made reference to. The access road will not be driven by the majority of taxis in Savusavu because it's very steep. I walked it a couple of times for fitness! If you're concerned about access and paying $10 each way into town (5-10 minute trip) then this place may not be your thing. Rathness and John are the two drivers that regularly service Korevesi and both are reliable! Saturday is the best day to shop as the markets are busy and the place is teeming with locals and visitors alike. Sunday is essentially a day of rest so everything will be closed except the IGA which is open until 12 (handy to know so you can plan for any shopping on the way to the villa) The pool is shared between three villas and is well maintained - water is tested daily by staff here. Other things: 1. Water in Fiji can be dodgy. The water supply here to Korevesi is spring artesian (like the stuff you buy in the bottle) so is potable. Still, I boiled all my water anyway and stored it in the fridge 2. Some of the villas don't have air con. This one does not but you have a massive fan and the breeze from the sea is also helpful (basically you don't really need air con). If you can't survive without it then definitely confirm which room or villa you have first. 3. Laundry is FJD $5 a load. The fee covers laundry supplies and tea/sugar for the units :) 4. Everyone is very willing to help. Junior (manager) lives very close by as does Mario. Both may not be on site all the time but are contactable. Salai (one of the lovely housekeepers) was very happy to help and always very welcoming! 5. I did not organise any activities through Korevesi but contacted place directly/went with other people to do activities so I can't comment specifically. One of the guests here had a car and we drove around to local areas which I would probably do next time - a 4WD is essential for the driveway. 6. I felt very safe here. Other solo travellers said the same. If that's a concern then I can say my experience was really good. 7. There have been some particular reviews regarding Mario and guest interaction. I had absolutely no problems whatsoever but I am aware of a guest who did not have the same experience. 8. The main complaints arise from patchy wifi and access to the villas. Fiji is a developing country so expect some things to be "less" (ie I didn't come here to spend the week on wifi so it isn't a huge deal to me). If you require solid wifi, easy access, full catering, and full services this absolutely isn't the place to come to because it's meant to be a simple and affordable alternative to other places. Jean Cousteau is just down the road and is at least ten times the expense (their wifi sucks too, it's universal across Fiji). I was happy with this even despite what other guests have experienced and for me it was a really good base.

Our travel agent had booked us into Korovesi a few months ago, but three weeks before travel we were invited to stay with our son who was working in Savusavu. The Agent tried to cancel the booking, but was informed by the owner that there were no refunds under one month. A bit unrealistic we thought, but oh well. We stayed in the Blue Banana Villa for 8 days. The views from the balcony are fantastic especially at sunset. Bessie (Elizabeth?) was a very attentive housekeeper who checked with us a few times a day to check on our needs but did not overly intrude. There were, however, some negatives including a killer mattress and a driveway fit only for mountain goats and 4WD vehicles! But Rathness and his taxi were on hand to get us into town or home for FJD$10. We spoke to Mario about some issues, and whilst he can't do anything about the driveway he did say that he was about to do some major maintenance on Blue Banana.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We loved it!! The owner was so awesome. Let us have our space and even took us to the airport!!! Such a sweet and humble guy. Our view was PERFECT. it was absolutely gorgeous. We had our own message gal come in and the pool was fantastic. It was the perfect get away. Prices are worth your money spent. I would suggest renting a car. One with 4wheel drive capability. But even the taxis make it up So either way.

We arrived in Savusavu the 18th. Before getting on the plane we contacted the hotel to arrange the transfer. As we landed 30 minutes earlier than expected, we called the owners again to tell them so. They arranged the pic up and everything went fine. We got to the apartment and Junior (manager) and maiden where there to welcome us and tells us about everything we needed to know. He also told us our card had been declined and we later found out there was a mistake on the card data (wrong expiry date). It was solved and we were charged.  We noticed there were A LOT of bugs and lizards in the room. We are aware that we are in the wild so that, to some extent, this is normal. But the quantity and size of the living creatures were not what you would expect at a 4-star villa. We contacted the owner because something was wrong with the flynet (there´s a hole on it, and that´s where big-sized bugs sneak in. Mario´s only answer was just “it´s normal”. We were expecting him to offer some reppellent or a kind of solution. But nope, just a rude and useless answer. We unpacked and started looking at the booklet we had on the apartment. In it there were a lot of activities on offer, and some of them were offered by the Villa´s owners under the name Fiji Fun Factory (Mario´s Fiji Fun Factory). We decided we wanted to do the fishing, the ride the tube and the snorkeling. The booklet in the apartment said “book with manager Junior”, but he had left and we hadn´t got his number, so we just thought we´d just call the number on the website (00679) 9722162. We did, and Mario told us - not very nicely - to talk with Junior. We siaid we didn´t have his number and that he wasn´t around, so we had no way to contact him. He said he would call him and send him. Junior showed up and we discussed the details with him. He told us they dind´t have snorkeling gear and that the motor boat was not working, but that he woukd try to sort something up for us. We said okay but we also asked that if it was not possible we would not be upset but we just wante to know so that we could plan other activities with other companies.  The following day he let us know that it had been impossible for him to find any snorkeling gear, and that the fishing would be possible but with a boat in which there was no motor. He said the people to take us would paddle and that we should be ready by 2pm, because someone would pick us up. We agreed and he left. No one picked us up and no one called or showed up to say anything. We tried to reach Junior several times, but apparently he was somehwere with no servce and it was impossible to contact him. We called Mario after an hour and a half to let him know about the situation.  His answer was nothing near the expected. He said it was not his problem, that he was not responsible for the boat and tat we should talk to Junior. So he basically did not apologize for the inconvenience his company had caused and was rude to us, customers, who were staying at his hotel. He then said he would try to reach him and send him to give us some explanation. We waited for another 40 minutes. No one came. We called Mario again (as Junior´s phone was not available) and his answer was even worse. He YELLED at my husband, telling him off and saying it was not his problem at all, not to dare call him again (apparently he thought we had been calling him TOO MANY TIMES for no reason) and that we should go and finde somewhere else to sleep where they had a boat if we wanted to go fishing. He was very rude and grumpy. It was not our fault, and he shoulnd´t be offering activities he´s not ready to carry out. Or, at least, he shouldn´t get angry when asked about it. My husband replied that we would be very happy to go somewhere else if we got our money back, which he obviously refused. So here we are, STILL at Mario´s villas. We are writing this review before we go so that he has the chance to fix things (or at least try). We have seen that in some of the bad reviews his answer was like “you should´ve said this before and i would´ve been kind”. Well, we´ve called him several times to try and fix things, but we are not doing that anymore because we are totally done with the yelling and rudeness. When your customers have a problem and the manager is not available, IT IS YOUR PROBLEM. You are liable for it, so it´s just your job to try and fix it. We were really surprised by his rudeness and unkindness, especially considering that we are paying to stay here and that it is our honeymoon (he is well aware of that, as we contacted him several days before our arrival and we specified it). Thanks for reading and maybe book another resort or hotel, because this one has very nice views and staff, but an awful and mean owner.
