Detailed Reviews
The location:
The location of Hotel 47 sends mixed signals, but is overall quite convenient. Allow me to elaborate: it is very close (within a five-minute walk) to a supermarket (think Walmart), banks, restaurants, a clinic, bars, and the San Antonio metro station...so pretty much anything you could need is nearby. Having said that, the neighborhood in which it is located is deceiving to the quality of the hotel. The area is loud and at night there are numerous policemen patrolling the area. (By the same token, the policemen are very polite and helpful should you have any questions or concerns). I have been to many Latin American cities and this is just another typical neighborhood to me, so the noise and warnings of "danger" on neighboring streets didn't alarm me a whole lot.
The quality of the hotel:
This hotel is very clean and has a nice modern theme. (I did encounter a cockroach during the stay, but for all I know it could have came in through the window that we often left open). We stayed in the most basic of rooms (budget traveler here). It was of ample size, large flat screen TV, interesting shower set up (I'll get to that later), a little table with a couple chairs...and mood lighting. Our room also had home-theater speakers in the ceiling and a DVD player, so we could buy a DVD on the street for a buck and come back and watch it in our room. The free breakfast in the morning was nice, but definitely nothing to write home about.
The staff:
The front desk/reception staff was wonderful...every single one of them. Also I practically fell in love with one of the housekeepers because of how endearing she was.
The price:
We stayed nine days for a couple hundred bucks, so it was very wallet-friendly.
The downsides of this hotel, though few, are as follows:
1.) We had a ceiling fan, not an actual air conditioner, in our room. It is quite warm in Medellín, so when you have it on, especially during the day, you are pretty much just blowing around hot air. Thisnisnmade worse when you take a hot shower (the shower isn't in its own room...it shares the room with the bed (think a very small but open floor plan studio apartment). Towards the end of our stay we learned that some of the rooms DO have air conditioning...so be sure to request it if you want it.
2.) The shower was open on one side and there was no curtain or anything to keep the water from getting all over the floor...like ALL OVER the floor.
3.) The breakfast, as mentioned earlier, was nothing special and didn't vary at all from day to day: a bit of scrambled eggs with ham, an arepa with a slice of cheese on top, and a piece of toast. To drink you had your choice of coffee, hot chocolate (until they run out), and fresh juice (the juice is the only thing that changed).
4.) If you are a light sleeper at all, bring some earplugs. We requested a quiet room, but I think that is in regards to the setup of the hotel, not the external noises (loud music coming in from the street, for example).

This hotel is very cheap, is clean, but the area where is located is horrible. Is in the center of the city, plenty of weird people around the door, in- and out people all the time.
Is more like a motel that you can rent for hours.

Rooms are OK and relatively good value but it is near impossible to get any rest: music blaring outside until 2am then the walls are so thin you hear EVERYTHING that's going out in the corridor, which for me included a woman crying, repeated knocking of doors and some kind of generator that starts groaning whenever anyone on the floor has a shower. I wasn't able to sleep for more than 10 minutes on my first night before one of the above happened and kept me awake for half an hour. Staff are the main culprits. Awful.

If I could leave a zero for this place I would. One of the worst all round hotels I’ve ever stayed in in my 38 years on this planet.
Cold water on the first night in the shower, cockroaches everywhere (they have had this issue for a year).
Bad attitude from most staff including breakfeast staff. Meaning we had to go elsewhere for breakfeast as we couldn’t get a basic cup of coffee without copious amounts of sugar.
They moved us to another room after o kept complaining and I think the choice was done on purpose as it was incredibly noisy as they only have single glazing.
WiFi is terrible considering they are trying to be a boutique hotel they cannot get the basics right.
The only great thing about this hotel is the view. The food in the restaurant at night is cold and service is slow because they have one member of staff up there who was incredibly friendly.
No one apologises and if you raise issues you’ll feel like a stuck record as they don’t care.
In summary, don’t bother, pick elsewhere unless your happy with the above.

Close to the places to visit. We have already been 2 other times in other hotels far from the center and we decided now to be in the center we used the train only 2 times on other occasions it was all day. So we were close to everything although we already know a lot and know how to get around. I love Medellín and so does my husband.

The place to stay in Medellin if you need a reasonably priced room with above average amenities and first class service. Friendly, efficient and very knowledgeable staff coupled with clean, spacious rooms places this establishment a cut above the rest. Thoroughly enjoyed my first and all subsequent stays.

Rooms are quit good value for money but there are too many downsides on this place. You can't walk around in the neighbourhood in the evening because it is too dangerous (we had to hear via a guide not staff)...during day is fine. Beds are very small (I am only 1.83 but I felt like a giant). The noise of the street galms through your room from 5:30 onwards. Lastly, when we asked for a 50% refund for second night because we wanted to get out of there they pretended like the manager was ill. Please, please do not go to this place because you will be dissappointed!!

Hoping I don't have to cut my Colombian experience short. I had my MacBook stolen by a maid from my hotel 47 Medellin street hotel. The owner was incredibly rude and such a jerk. He said I was a liar and how dare I accuse his staff to be thieves. He didn't apologize or try to compensate in anyway. He looked like your typical middle aged douche bag with his pink button down and tight designer jeans with a horrible $60 hair cut. There's a special place in hell for people like you. Bad location, rough neighborhood, loud paper thin walls, gross food, just all around awful! Do not stay here!!!!

We stayed two nights in this Hotel and would never recommend to anyone to stay there
Even if the hotel is quite central, he isn't in a "safe place" of Medellin - the WiFi isn't working at all in every room and isn't even working properly in the corridor.
The worst thing in this hotel is definitely the noise (you can easily hear the snoozer of your neighbors and when they take a shower or go to the toilets....) there is absolutely no insonorisation in this hotel.
The breakfast was ok tho and the room (even if the showers were transparent) were quite clean.
Last but not least: we gave our clothes do wash and the price they gave us was completely wrong and they asked us to pay much more, what we refused after arguing with them (one of our pants came even back dirty)
Well, all in one, we do not recommend to stop by this hotel.

We booked this hotel in a rush on our way back to Medellin from San Andrés. Because of the bad internet connection on the island we could not see the reviews properly.
The photos looked great, but on arrival we could not hide our disappointment.
We arrived late and hungry. The receptionist didn't speak a single word of english and seemed rather grumpy. Because the area outside felt unsafe we wanted to eat or at least drink something atthe hotel. But the hotel restaurant was closed nor was there a mini bar or any other option to get a water from. She gave us a pamphlet for take away from a restaurant in the area, but the menu just looked uneatable.
Our rooms only had a tiny window with little light coming in. The bed was too small for two people, uncomfortable and we were freezing. The extra blanket smelled unwashed, so we did not dare to use it. The surfaces hadn't been cleaned properly.
We asked for a qiet room, but there was a constant roaring noise coming from outside in intervals sounding like a generator.
Breakfast was rather mediocre. Eggs and a dry roll with butter and a bit of fruits.
The only positive thing there is to say about this place is the fact the the price was quite ok. We paid around 60.000 each per night, but the least you can expect for that is a clean room and clean blankets.
