Clean and quiet hostel, good breakfast and super friendly staff. They really go out of their way to make it as comfortable as possible and satisfy their customers. The location is in ever beautiful and green Poblado, walking distance to metro and some of the best bars & restaurants. Recommended!

My girlfriend and I stayed 4 nights in Saman hostel, and we enjoyed the location, the fruit and coffee every morning, and the friendly staff. There was also a good atmosphere and interesting travellers there. One con was the noise, as we could hear the clubs behind the hostel, but that's because we were in one of the private rooms in the back of the hostel. We read about bedbugs on other posts, but we did not encounter any, and we spent time lounging in the common room and on the beanbag chairs in the evening, and no other guest mentioned anything about them, so I'm not sure the still have the problem.

First we really liked Saman Hostel. The private rooms are cozy (although very loud at weekends because of the nearby club), its very clean, its in the middle of El Poblado, the staff is friendly and helpful, the kitchen is well equipped. The common area is nice but lacks a table where you can eat. Some days later we realized that our many insect bites had to come from bed bugs in our room. We actually saw one and also the blood stains on our sheets were indicators.

The rooms at the street side are noisy. The windows have a opening and can't be closed. During the day there is a lot of traffic and at night you hear the party-folk screaming around.
The hostel has bedbugs. We told them about it. Other guests told them before us and I read it here on tripadvisor that we are not the first to tell them. The staff doesn't take the warnings serious and does not undertake the required measures: they take the issue lightly. The bugs are now even in the living room. The guests are now going to spread the bugs to other hostels. Very irresponsible! I wonder how long is this going to take before they call in a professional organisation? I wish their neighbours good luck.
Avoid this hostel for a while!

This hostel is clean, has comfortable beds, nice staff and a nice common area.
It has also been my least favourite hostel in all of south america. It literally backs onto a club that rages until 4am. Not only is it loud, it literally vibrates the whole room. Earplugs do nothing as it vibrates so much it nearly rattles your teeth. I finally fell asleep after 4 when the music stopped, and then staff started talking loudly outside our room at 7 am so i successfully got 3 hours sleep.
Poblado is a party district so a bit of noise is understandable but this is just next level. We might as well have been trying to sleep inside the night club.
Do yourselves a favour and stay at la playa- a hostel that has a cool bar and you can definitely party at- but is quiet at 12am and you can actually get a bit of sleep.
Also, we had booked a 'double room' and overlooked the fact that it said it was a double room with maximum one person. Just call it a single room if you can only have one person. We booked this thinking it was 70,000 pesos (reasonable) but were then charged 90,000 for 2 people which is an absolute rip off for a hostel that doesn't provide breakfast or a reasonable nights sleep. Look elsewhere.

Based on reviews on TripAdvisor and hostel booking sites my girlfriend and I decided to book into this hostel for 2 nights in a 5 bed mixed dorm (September 2014).
Here are some of the negative things about staying here:
1. Bed Bugs - My girlfriend and I woke up after this first night with lots of bites. At first we put it down to mosquitos but after more and more bites started to appear during the day I became suspicious. The following day we woke up with even more bites and in my mind there was no doubt it was bed bugs (I've unfortunately had them before and all the tell tale signs were there). When I was packing my bag before we left I saw one of the bugs crawling across my sheets. We immediately told the girl working there however she didn't seem too worried about it and said she'd look into it. Based on the reaction I'd say nothing will be done to exterminate them so unless you like having hundreds of uncontrollably itchy, red, swollen, weeping bites on ALL areas of your body, stay away from this hostel.
2. 2 out of the 3 bathroom/toilet doors have locks but they don't work so don't be surprised if someone walks in while you are on the toilet or in the shower.
3. Laundry Service - Don't make use of the laundry service if you need your clothes back within 24 hours. We put ours in at 8:00am on our first morning with the assumption that we would get it back the same day. We checked with the staff that night to see how it was progressing and they hadn't started it. The girl working told us that if it couldn't be done by 10:00am the next morning she would let us know. We didn't hear anything more. Just before 10:00am the next day we asked where the washing was and they told us it was being dried. At 10:30 we received the clean washing. Although it was only 30 minutes late it meant that we missed our scheduled bus which ended up costing us more. They also asked us for 18,000COP instead of the agreed 12,000COP. The reason being because apparently we fit 'a lot' in the container which they use to measure a load. We obviously disputed this given that everything fit in easily and when we gave it to them they didn't say it was too much. They agreed to let us just pay 12,000 on this occasion.
4. Other than just outside the front door which is very noisy from the traffic, there is no outdoor area to relax in and enjoy the warm weather Medellin has to offer. A lot more could be done with the living room also. They could easily fit in a table for you to eat a meal but instead you only have cushions on the ground or some small benches/seats along the wall to sit on.
On a side note - the five bed dorm faces the main road which can be really loud due to traffic especially in the morning.
Here are some positive things about staying here:
1. The kitchen is well equipped and clean which made it nice to cook in.
2. The shower was hot as advertised.
3. Walking distance to the metro and some nice bars.

This is a very relaxed hostel in a great location very close to Parque lleras in the El Pobaldo area of Medellin. It's about a 20 minute walk from the nearest metro, the staff are very nice, especially Diana and the night guy too (let me check in at 10AM instead of 1400 which was much appreciated after a long night bus) and I do like the overall vibe of the place. Having said that I probably wouldn't stay here again. I stayed here on 2 separate occasions (once for 2 nights and the other time for 1 night). On both occasions I was put into the same dormitory room and it's just too noisy. The hostel is situated right on the main road (Calle 10) and on some occasions I felt like I was sleeping in the middle of the road, the windows are pretty much non-existent. I'm sure it's much better in other rooms (the further back the better) but I just wouldn't risk another booking here just in case I ended up in the front room again. If you do wanna book then ear plugs essential!

We were several people: 3 argentinian guys, 2 japanese, 1 holandese, 2 swedish girls, 1 hawaian and 1 guy from bogota that was reading the book "god doesn't have a future". So that guy probably after reading went to buy some traditional drink called agua ardiente. He needed to meet his boss the day after and i reminded about that when we were drinking the 2nd bottle. They all said the women are evil. So we continued drinking, i met the guy from tinder in the corner, didnt like him, so i brought him to the party. He made friends with the swedish girls. I made more friends with the argentinian guy that kept touching me and telling that russians are extremely cold. I just laughted because that drink makes you laught a lot. I dont know whats that, maybe anis... The next day The guy didnt go to meet his boss and quarreled with his gf, she called him alcoholic and he was begging her to give him the 2nd chance lying in the position when you feel less that your head is expoading. So the hostel is really nice, clean and beautiful.

A great hostel with all you need in Medellin.
Located in a nice area surrounded by many restaurants. At approx. 20 walk from Poblabo metro station you feel secure in Medellin while still been able to easily access downtown during the day.
The hostel has a nice shared area and visitors are respectful. And definitely world travelers.
