This is rated a 4-star hotel on Gulangyu Island which is off the coast of Xiamen. About a 20 min ferry ride from the city. The hotel was very large but the maintenance of the hotel was poor. Rooms were old and badly needing update. The breakfast buffet offered large assortment of western and asian food choices but the quality...

This is such a common example of a four star Chinese hotel. They had the money to build it, but they never spent the money to maintain it. The carpets in the hallway smell like a mixture of a wet dog, mildew, and dog urine. The air-conditioners in the room turn on, but I did not find that it ever...

This hote is on the Gulang yu island off the coast of Xiamen. It's a fun location a short ferry ride away from the city, and it's attraction is the crumbling colonial mansions and the fact that there are no motorised vehicles on the island. It is also a great favourite with Chinese tourists so don't expect it to be...

My SO and I have stayed in a wide range of hotels in China, in a wide range of places. Our suite at the Marine Garden was above average, but not quite "very good". Carpets were very stained and like other hotels we've stayed in, even very high end ones, the carpets are not vacuumed daily. As other reviewers have...

This appears to be a beautiful (if maybe a bit unsympathetic to its surroundings) hotel in a beautiful location. But be warned - they charged us 4 star hotel prices to stay a few weeks ago. We went into the lobby and checked in despite the relatively high price on the strength of their brochure which showed a great indoor...

My wife and I spent a night in early January as part of a privately organised tour. We had a room on the second floor with a partial sea view. The view was partially marred by some construction materials in the garden below our room. The room was clean with carpets that were maintained in good condition and a bathroom...

We stayed at the Xiamen Marine Garden Hotel during the May week long holiday. These holidays as are known as "Golden Weeks" due to the amount of money splashed around, but along with National Day and Spring Festival holidays, are extrememly busy as hundreds of millions of Chinese take holidays and flock to popular destinations, swamping the transport system on...
