If you like character accommodations you will be VERY pleased with the Domus Mare hotel in Viña Del Mar. We are now in Buenos Aires after having cruised around Cape Horn and still our Domus Mare experience remains top of the list. We had a large room with a king bed and an equally large bathroom with a Jacuzzi-type tub. Everything was very clean and very interesting. An outstanding feature was our step up patio that overlooked the bay. Not only did it have a day bed and dining setup but also a two person hot tub. Wow! We wanted to spend a few days in Chile before tracking our cruise and had originally booked a hotel in Santiago. However given the riots occurring there - the latest the Friday before our arrival - we cancelled and booked a place in Valparaiso instead. However there were riots there too so we changed again to Domus Mare in Viña Del Mar. And were we ever pleased to have done so. We were there for New Year’s Eve and even though the restaurant had recently shut down the hotel provided us with an excellent spread and a bottle of wine and we watched the fireworks immediately in front of us on our private patio. The location of the hotel allows for an easy walk down to the beach by the Sheraton and if you like walking you can keep on going through Viña Del Mar to the great beaches on the north side of town. The staff was excellent and worked diligently with us to understand our needs and provide them. We were very disappointed that the restaurant had closed down as it had been one of the top ones in Viña Del Mar and if our New Year’s Eve spread was any indication, it deserved the recognition. Instead we had takeout sushi from just down the street one night, a birthday dinner at the Sheraton another night and went to a relatively new local restaurant the third night. More on that in another review. All said we would go back to clean, calm Viña Del Mar anytime and would definitely stay at Domus Mare if we do so.…
Nice and clean hotel with charming rooms. The staff is most helpful and breakfast of your choice is served in your room. Great restaurant with lovely view. We had a fantastic fish and a nice bottle of wine.
Great little quirky hotel. Staff were excellent - parked our hire car in secured garage and carried our heavy luggage. Our room was small but had an outside area with table/chairs and large comfy sun lounger- shame the weather was rubbish. Dinner was excellent but starters same price as the main course?! Breakfast very good and it’s the first time I had brown sugar in my coffee (little things make me happy!) the hotel looks over a busy main road but it didn’t bother us.
The hotel is old fashioned in its decor but we loved it. The staff spoke excellent English and could not have been more helpful. The welcome pisco sour was delicious, and the breakfast exceptionally good. We lived our terrace with its views over the sea.
I visited Vina on a quick get away from business in Santiago. I made a last minute reservation and really lucked out. Domus Mare is a fantastic little inn with an incredible view of the ocean (get a room on the top floor). The staff is extremely friendly and it has a nice restaurant and bar. The only negative was the road noise as the hotel sits right above the highway but I did not notice it at all at night.
