Luang Prabang is amazing, but it's difficult to find a quiet spot to sit and just enjoy the Mekong flow past in town. Thongbay is five-ten mins cycle ride out of the picturesque old town (you can rent a bike here for free) and situated right on the river side. The setting is beautiful, nice and secluded. I took one... More

I'm embarrassed that it's taken me 8 months to review this place. I am a solo professional female traveler, who stayed at the guesthouses for 10 days last spring. In a country of ridiculously friendly people, even the staff at Thongbay stands out. Yeah, it's a bit out of town, but the short cycle in on the bikes they provide... More

We stayed here for 3 nights and would definitely recommend it. It's worth the extra money to have a river view--it was great to sit on our bungalow porch each morning and eat breakfast overlooking the river. The bungalow itself was full of character and comfortable. Just a warning that there's not much hot water to be had for showers.... More

We are a family of 4 and stayed in a family bungalow facing the river in January 2014. The bungalow has a traditional Lao feel with a grass roof, and a verandah looking out onto the nam khan river. The bathroom is western and the accommodation is clean, comfortable and full of character. The setting is beautiful with well maintained... More

No doubt: This was the most beautiful place we have stayed in on our trip to Thailand and Laos. This amazing guesthouse is just like paradise. The garden around which the bungalows are situated is so beautiful and so well taken care of. The terrace offers superb views onto Nam Khan River. The bungalows are so beautiful, beds are perfect,... You will be welcomed and farewelled like family. Amazing breakfasts and location. Nothing is too much trouble. Be aware that in mid jan the temperature here was see-your-breath cold In the morning so bring warm clothes. After being shoulder to shoulder with half of the tourists in Laos in the central area it's great to be able to walk back... More

My husband and I spent 5 nights at Thongbay Bungalows and would have to say it was one of the most magnificent places we have ever stayed! Every single staff member from the van driver who picked us up from the airport to the young women who brought us breakfast each morning to our room as well as the receptionists... More

I stayed at Thongbay for 4 nights in December. It was really tranquil and felt very special, I had a bungalow overlooking the river which was well worth the extra expense. The staff were really friendly and hospitable and interested to talk and to organise expeditions for a very reasonable price. It is true that the hotel is some way... More

Stayed in a river view triple and had a very nice stay. The breakfast was excellent and was delivered punctually every morning to our room. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is located only a few km from the center of town and has a regular shuttle into town. Alternatively it is about a 30 min walk,... More

We stayed at Thongbay for three weeks--it was the base for our exploration of Northern Laos--and we were absolutely enchanted. The staff was remarkably accommodating, friendly and well informed, helping us with everything from getting online to recovering from a short bout of illness to organizing excursions in the jungle. We were always served with a smile. Our bungalow was... More
