We have recently travelled around Croatia and stayed at the Royal Ariston for 4 nights in a beautiful sea view / balcony room which was spacious, clean and had the most amazing views! We told the hotel that it was our honeymoon and they very kindly gave us a voucher to have prosecco and dessert in any of their restaurants which was a lovely touch. The hotel itself was amazing, we didn’t realise it was part of such a big chain of sister hotels next door but this meant we were able to use all of the other facilities. We absolutely loved the adults only rooftop terrace/pool in the sky bar during the day, but also in the evening for the best location for drinks to watch the sunset! Breakfast was served in a large buffet style diner with plenty of fresh food to choose from, as well as egg station to get fresh fried eggs or omelette.. the views from here were also unreal, overlooking the sea having breakfast alfresco in the morning sun was beautiful. Although the hotel was about a 10 minute drive from old town, it felt so relaxing and most Ubers were around €10 each way. The hotel has a lovely walkway along the seafront into Lapad where there are some lovely bars and restaurants along the way so don’t need to go into old town for meals etc if you don’t want to. We visited ‘Cave bar more’ but sat outside at the waters edge for the sunset one evening which was lovely and very relaxing. This hotel is by far our favourite of the 5 hotels we stayed in during our Croatia trip and is the one we already want to book a return trip to come back to! Thank you so much to the team for making our stay an unforgettable one.

We had a family trip with teenagers in July. Firstly the hotel is absolutely stunning and we were blown away by the luxury sea view rooms with large balconies, floor to ceiling windows and huge beds- all completely immaculate. The coffee machine and fridge in the room and toiletries were lovely too.
The hotel is very well positioned right on the sea, with several pools and many areas to sunbathe, many access points to the sea which was absolutely beautiful and amazing sunsets every night. We found there to be plenty of sun loungers. It's easy to get Ubers to and from both Lapad and Dubrovnik old town relatively cheaply. We enjoyed the variety of food at the buffet breakfast, though it was very busy and chaotic!
The only issue we met was the key cards for the rooms wiped all the time and we had to get them reset several times a day at reception, as the hotel is large it is quite a hassle to find you can't get in your room and then have to go down five floors all the way to reception and back again.
I would definitely return to the resort, here are things that I wish I'd know before I went:
- there are no shops in the hotel or nearby, the nearest is a small supermarket 25 mins walk away. This means you cannot easily access drinks, snacks, ice creams or essential toiletries such as sun cream or sanitary products etc.
- there is nowhere for casual snacks in the complex, like ice creams, sandwiches etc, the restaurants are all quite formal and expensive, mains are around 15-30 EUR minimum (this is for nachos, salad or burrito etc and the quality does not reflect this pricing), so for a quick lunch including drinks at 5 EUR minimum each it all adds up. It seems quite crazy to not have ice creams at the bar then its 33 degrees outside, or smaller snacks like sweets, fruit, crisps, etc. There is a clothing shop in reception and this would be much better suited to be a small convenience store.

We had a beautiful sea view room on 4th floor with nothing but the sea & islands to see when stepped out onto the balcony. Great location for watching the sunset from many locations either on the waterfront, roof top bar or our own balcony.
Breakfast was the usual expected fare and whilst there we experienced very busy and very quiet times. Staff were always on hand to get anything you may need
Location was perfect, a short 15 minute 2 euro bus ride to Old town - easy to navigate as both the hotel and Old town are 'end of the line' so can't get lost! Peaceful and pretty 15 walk to more bars and restaurants at Sunset Beach on way or hour walk around the land to the new port area.
Housekeeping - cleaned and tidied the room each day, had to occasionally ask for more tea / coffee / milk although it wasn't a problem as we just got some in the morning at breakfast. Was a little early some days (for us) but we just put the do not disturb sign out and removed it when we went down for breakfast
Was the perfect base for our week away and would love to return when we next go to Dubrovnik

This establishment enjoys a superb seaside location with rooms having very beautiful views directly onto the sea. The hotel is part of a huge complex comprising several hotels and apartment rentals with numerous small swimming pools and several restaurants. The rooms are large and quite comfortable without being able to claim a very luxurious character. Indeed, for example, the curtains in the bedroom had holes and the magnifying mirror in the bathroom is very basic without lighting. The biggest fault of this establishment is linked to the quality of service which is very, very insufficient. The staff is friendly but probably insufficiently trained, so you are never accompanied to your table in the restaurant and men are served before women. This lack of quality of service is seen a lot at breakfast, it is the worst place in existence, a factory, a very large self-service where all the customers from the different hotels in the complex all find themselves in promiscuity. Here again, no one to accompany you to the table or take your order, it's up to you to manage and serve yourself in this huge canteen self-serve. Let's finish with the restaurants of the complex, they are lunch restaurants but they lack the quality of service, a slightly more elaborate menu and a more refined decor to be able to pretend to welcome you for dinner like a 5-star hotel should do. For this reason it is preferable to go to the restaurants of the MORE hotel, another 5 star 5 minutes walk away which are of much better quality. However, the roof top of one of the hotels in the Royal complex remains nice for having a drink while watching the sunset. In the end this superb situation is somewhat spoiled by the lack of refinements of the establishment, by the poor service and by the breakfast factory.

We booked for a week for our honeymoon. We paid to upgrade our room and told the hotel we were on our honeymoon, expecting maybe a bottle of wine or something in line with the service you expect from a so called 5 star hotel. We got nothing except a dirty room with stained bedding, thick dust on all the skirting boards and frames, hair in the bathroom and filthy mirrors. We spoke to reception and they said somebody would come and clean the room, so we went out for a few hours and came back to find some macarons and a bottle of water on the counter top, with a note saying enjoy your stay. BUT the room was still the same! All they did was change the bed cover! We weren't going to waste any more time on this, you can always tell when a hotel isn't bothered about your stay being a good one. The first night we were woken at around 3am by a loud fire alarm that repeats a siren and a long message over and over in loads of different languages, via a speaker directly above the bed. This went on for ages, but as they didn't say it in English, we had no idea what it was. Eventually it stopped and we went back to sleep. Then it happened again a few day later but went on for over an hour and the whole hotel evacuated (for some people they'd done this 3 times already during their stay) When we eventually went back inside, the speaker went off again with a pathetic apology saying the fire alarm was faulty. But its in reviews dating back to June so that's either a lie, or this hotel is continuing to open knowing it has a fault fire alarm system?? Everybody that had been complaining each time it happened said they weren't even offered a free drink or anything, despite spending hours sat outside in the middle of the night several times. Typical of these massive hotel chains, once they have your money they just don't care. The breakfast is so far from 5 star, from the hot dogs and watery porridge, to the dry anemic looking fruit and rock hard beans. The whole hotel is beige with no character, just miles of corridors with dated rooms and very little signage to help you navigate around. As it's 4 hotels in one, the reception is slow and often has huge queues. The location is fine, the views are great, but we wouldn't stay here again. We have 2 days left and we want to go home already. This hotel needs reassessing for its star rating, 4 stars would be generous, and definitely not 5 stars. Dubrovnich is a stunning city, but this hotel isn't the place to enjoy it, choose somewhere else!

Impersonal hotel, only the view is highlighted! Breakfast not worthy of a 5*; looks more like a canteen, food certainly abundant, but not refined, coffee machine often broken down, coffee infective, and permanent queue to access in turn! We were certainly unlucky to have several days of heavy rain in the week and asked for an umbrella at the reception, but negative answer: "no more umbrellas because the customers supposedly took them!!!" and unfortunately we have to go outside because the restaurants are all scattered outside! We were asked 30 € an hour to keep the room a little longer!! (our plane took off at 11 pm in the evening) We were told that there was no problem to keep our suitcases effectively, but when we had to access them to get a garment, it was just if we were not pushed out of the room! Only the housekeeper who made our room was very nice, and a person who passed in the self to rid the table was smiling too! In short, flee this chain of hotels (there must have been 5) where we all found ourselves in a crowded and noisy room in the morning! Prefer the "More" or "Valamar" in the same area and much more intimate!

Situated on a peninsula Babin Kuk around 15 minutes from the old town and 35 minutes transfer from the airport. Lovely hotel, it has a luxury feel. The room was really good with a fantastic 180 degree view of the sea- you have to go for the sea view option. Large rooms, lots of wardrobe and drawer space, big beds, great shower and lovely balcony. There are a number of different restaurants although we did not use. Breakfast is very good, lots of options but it is busy at popular times. If vegan you are limited to fruit, salads, granola, nuts. It is built on a rocky outcrop, beach lovers beware, there is no sandy beach. However there are lots of concrete platforms to jump and dive off, which is lots of fun. Great snorkeling by the rocks, bring the gear with you, even goggles are worth it. The sea is beautiful to swim in, only occasionally choppy. There is a small beach with fine gravel (think cat litter!) A few minutes walk away if you have young children, it belongs to another hotel. There are 3 pools at the hotel. We always managed to get sunbeds, the staff are brilliant and will help set you up. Water sports options are jet skis and paddle boards. There is a bus stop 5 minutes away with no. 6 buses every 15 minutes to take you over to the port or old town, which is stunning, we visited every day. Wildlife we saw were tortoises, geckos and humming bird moths! We had no problems with the Internet. A fantastic holiday, highly recommend the place.

Check-in was good, we were upgraded to a suite, which was a nice touch.
Sunbathing areas are all nice, rooftop bar is the best area if you want a view and a breeze in the midday heat.
Sea swimming off the hotel was lovely, be careful on the rocks as they are slippery and sharp in places and be extra careful when in shallow waters as stepping on sea urchins is the only real danger when swimming in the Adriatic.
Breakfast was not bad, good variety but boring after a few days, it was a shame that they stopped doing freshly cooked eggs and omelettes, these were the highlight of the breakfast when offered.
I wouldn't recommend half board as the evening buffet isn't as good as the food you can experience in sunset beach. Special shout-out to Chihuahua (Mexican restaurant).
You can expect to pay 600kn (£65) for dinner around the resort, but you get much more value for money if you venture 10 minutes East into sunset beach and the strip of restaurants and bars.
The massages are great and the staff are very polite and helpful, we recommend the GoT tour with the Karaka boat cruise and the 3 islands tour if you like a day out.
The room was always kept clean and we would recommend a sea view, bring your own entertainment for the evenings if you aren't venturing to sunset beach each night as the hotel is limited.
There is very little signage on health and safety and the environment around the hotel and Dubrovnik itself so keep an eye out and be mindful. No lifeguards and some slippery floors which weren't signed!
Also to note, the water in Croatia is clean and drinkable, so save yourself the £5 charge per bottle at dinner!

Lovely but not 5 star service … the hotel itself & its setting is stunning - right on the water - steps straight into sea. The rooms and general feel was lovely with nice bars & restaurants as part of the hotel group. There was a mix up with our rooms and we had to hang around for a while until I suggested they show us to the bar. The pools are lovely but you had to go & find staff to order drinks and snacks which is a shame as a/should be standard pool service as 5 star and b/surely is revenue generating for the hotel. The breakfast area was busy and a bit underwhelming (queuing to get coffee/hot water etc.) The restaurants are lovely but here at the hotel and along the promenade are pricey - however the location is beautiful and sunsets stunning. Top tips visit the cave bar along the promenade and get yourself to the blue cave (boat tour) the internal cave is breathtaking.
The old town is a short bus ride away but taxis (Uber) good value ..
Staff at the bar (stefan) was great …
Overall lovely but just didn’t feel 5 star in terms of service and given price point of holiday overall..

This a lovely hotel with very professional staff on hand to help meet all your needs . The hotel is kept exceptionally clean and has some great views over the sea. It’s in a good location, about 20 mins walk from Lapad along a very nice pedestrian pathway which is lit up at night and looks very impressive. There’s some lovely bars and restaurants along the way if you feel the need to stop! If you can’t manage the walk you can catch the No.6 bus which runs roughly every 15 mins from across the road outside The President Hotel - the fare is €2 pp for any trip . The bus will also take you into the centre of Dubrovnik OldTown. The reason I have only given the Hotel 4 stars is for a couple of reasons! When we arrived , late evening , 2 out of 3 of the bulbs in the bathroom had gone , admittedly these were changed once we told reception. The Hotel has complimentary L’Occitane toiletries but we were unable to get these replenished , on the first couple of occasions we mentioned the problem to reception it was rectified, but for some strange reason the Housekeeper just couldn’t manage to replace the toiletries without being told , I decided to buy my own shampoo as I didn’t want to spend my holiday at reception! Unfortunately it was the same situation with the Tbags and milk in the room and just a small but annoying issue - the cushions from the bed where always left scattered on the floor once she had cleaned the room , it’s rather nice when you’re on holiday to get these touches right, especially as this Hotel rates itself as 5 star ! Breakfast is as you would expect with the usual choices , but it’s manic !! Often waiting for tables to be cleared before being able to be seated . A small tip .. if you want uninterrupted sea views it’s better to request a higher floor. The Royal Blue Hotel , immediately next door (which is part of the Hotels chain) has a wonderful infinity roof pool for adults only ! You are made to feel very special here , the waiter will serve drinks to you in the pool , move your sun bed and parasol for you , nothing is too much trouble. Not sure if the Royal Blue is any different in price , but it’s definitely a “step up” and no doubt a “true” 5star!
