Hotel Royal Neptun boasts a picturesque seafront location that has enchanted numerous guests, complemented by its modern atmosphere and immaculate cleanliness praised across reviews. While rooms are celebrated for their views and spaciousness, some guests have noted privacy concerns and discrepancies with their bookings.
The service quality appears to be a toss-up, with reports of both friendly staff and slow responses. Although the hotel offers valued amenities like multiple pools and sea access, opinions on its overall value are split due to high prices and food quality.

We booked a two night stay before a boating trip in Croatia. We wanted to be near old town without the associated crowds. Old Town was a quick 8 Euro Uber ride away, (taxi's were substantially more expensive). The hotel was on a a walkway where you could access many restaurants and bars.
The lobby was open and fresh with floor to ceiling windows of the sea, the day we arrived was perfect with the sun sparkling off of it. This was a great first impression. We had a panoramic view room which did not disappoint with more beautiful views. The room was not luxurious but did have all the required amenities.
We had lunch in one of the restaurants when we got there which served great pizza's and again, overlooked the water. Breakfast had many options and was very good although the coffee machines did empty quickly and were slow to be filled leaving long line ups.
The sea was rough on the days we were there but we did manage a quick swim as well as time spent in the pools. Sunsets were spectacular.
We enjoyed out stay and found the value was very good for what we paid.

The hotel is excellent, the staff Igor a restaurant manager was a delight , he praised the hotel also.First it was a package holiday, but reception took note of my knee problem and allocated me to a lower floor. The hotel is I think we'll situated the bus starts it's journey outside the hotel and finishes at Dubrovnik. The rooms are a generous size , the shower had pressure, fully adjustable plenty of water. Cleaned very well , towels changed every day. Never used the pools , but pool areas very clean with nice touches ,one had a glass side. There where plenty of ramped areas for wheel chairs or just to avoid the steps. My one personal dislike was breakfast , although plenty to choose from , fruit juices , tea and coffee. The sausages where not what I would call sausages , the bacon was poor quality and quite rubbery. But ample choice of alternatives, but if you like a English breakfast , it isn't. But it was a lovely hotel , lovely views , beautiful sunset brilliant staff. See you next year .

We had a very mixed experience at this hotel, but frankly the stunning location and view makes up for everything. I booked a Junior Suite with King Bed, Sea View and Balcony but instead received a Family Suite with two beds (twins pushed together) and nowhere to sit. To make matters worse, room was on the main floor, meaning the balcony was literally mere inches from the loungers (and guests) at the pool - no privacy whatsoever. When I complained, front desk initially claimed that room I got was the room I booked, but eventually conceded it was not and (surprise, surprise) there were no rooms of the type I booked until the next day. The next day we did change rooms (a hassle), along with a note from the duty manager that he was shocked that we didn't appreciate the original "upgraded" room we neither asked for nor were informed we'd been assigned. I must say, we were henceforth well treated by the more senior manager Tom (a fellow Canadian) who did go to lengths to assuage our initial displeasure upon check-in. New room was nice size and well appointed, with balcony with extraordinary views of the sea. Only quibbles are that we would have preferred a walk-in shower (like the one in the website room photo........) over the very high and narrow bathtub we got and the empty shower gel dispenser was not refilled for days and required several calls to housekeeping to remedy. Yes - the breakfast situation is as unruly as many other reviewers have noted, but again, the opportunity to have your breakfast literally overlooking the sea each morning made up for the mayhem, subpar food quality and ridiculous wait for the very few functioning coffee machines (:(). Many pools to choose from, including a cool adult one on the roof with a clear side. As others have noted, getting into the old town is easy via the public bus catchable across the street from the lobby or a very reasonable Uber charge, so there's really no downside to staying outside the old town proper in exchange for the fabulous views here. Also very pleasant walk along the sea promenade to nearby Lapad with several nice restaurants. Even with the issues experienced, would happily stay here again - it's that beautiful.

The hotel is quite expensive but the level of service doesn’t correspond to the requested price.
I booked this place for 7 nights (standard room at around 250 euros a night) and left after 3: wifi was not working in the room, at the beach and / or at the pool, the service was very poor.
I had to search for the menu by myself and then wait for a long time for someone to come and take my order.
In the bathroom, the main shower was blocked, so the water was not running straight and one had to use the small shower head to take a shower.
Cleaning ladies were opening the door and coming into the room without even waiting for the guest to reply if it was the right moment.
Now I still rate it average, as the breakfast was good with a lot of choice and the beach was nicely spaced, with the sun-beds being spaced, allowing guests to have some privacy. The place is also a bit far from the city center that allows to avoid crazy crowds, which is also nice.
For 100 -150 euros a night I would rate this place better, but current prices are clearly not at the level of services/comfort that are offered to guests.
To be fair, whole Dubrovnik is overpriced, with a bottle of water that costs between 7 and 9 euros in an average restaurant. I find that Portugal, Italy, Spain and Greece offer better quality/price options.

Initially it felt quite soulless and a bit impersonal but the room was clean and the views spectacular. There are 4 (5?) pools to choose from, loads of sunbeds and the views from the lower pools built into the rocks are just gorgeous. We don’t brave the sea as it was too choppy but did see people swimming in it. Beach Towels were readily available which was great as we only had a small under-seat bag each so couldn’t fit in beach towels. We had lunch from one of the restaurants one of the days (they will bring to your lounger) and it was really good. Breakfast on the other hand….incredibly busy, queues for the eggs and only 4 coffee machines that take such a long time. I’d say about 1 minute to do each drink, there were huge queues and most people would get at least 2 drinks so you can imagine how long it took, even more so when one of the machines broke! Also the cups are tiny!! On the second day I asked a waiter for a tea to the table and got a teapot and a decent size cup so there’s a tip for you to remember if you go here! We had a late flight home but were able to store our bags and have a day by the pool and then use the shower in the spa at the end of the day. There was a bus close by but to be honest we ubered it most of the time. It was about £10 euros a trip and they were very frequent - took about 10 mins to get to the old town, a bit longer in the day when the traffic was heavier.

We stayed here with our two sons in 2 x luxury sea view rooms. On entering the hotel reception we were all wowed by the view, it was incredible. We arrived a few hours earlier than the check in time and as our rooms were ready they allowed us to check in early which we really appreciated. Both rooms were lovely with fab views of the sea. The hotel pools are plentiful, each with a different vibe. There are also little sunbathing spots dotted around in the rocks with access to the sea. We were sad the rooftop pool wasn’t open as we had read great things about it. The breakfast buffet has a lovely outdoor terrace jutting out into the sea so the views again were amazing. The buffet was great but hectic. Items often ran out and the coffee machines were constantly running out or breaking down. Staff did work tirelessly in trying to sort these issues but seemed overwhelmed. It was about a 15 min walk into Lapad’s small centre and the beach. Along a beautiful paved path along the sea. Sunset drinks at the more cave bar are a must. An Uber into the old town takes about 10 min and cost about €8. We would definitely stay at this hotel again and would recommend it. We were glad we stayed in Lapad rather than the old town as it had more of a holiday vibe and the views were to die for.

First the good. Large, clean, modern hotel with enough decoration to provide nice ambience.
Hotel is in Lapad, on a beautiful point with gorgeous, panoramic views of the Adriatic and the two island lighthouses guarding the harbor. The actual city of Lapad is about a 3-5 minute drive, so you are in an area with no shops or markets, just resort hotels.
About 15-20 euro to old town Dubrovnik. Or 2.5 euro per person by bus. Bus is directly on main road by hotel-less than 5 minute walk.
Hotel has 3 pools and is part of a complex of 3 hotels by same company. Lowest pool is down by the rocks next to the sea. Lots of chairs among the rocks and entrances along a 200meter seashore and swimming area. No beach, just some access points between rocks to the water. One metal stair to water to the far left facing the water.
Service is good. Room is ok. Big with large balcony.
Smells strongly of cigarette smoke, don’t appear to be no smoking rooms. We had a Jr. Suite and the sofa pull out to bed was a humpback disaster. My daughter ended up sleeping sidewise on the bed with her feet hanging off. Lowest temperature on the AirCond is 20C, so when the afternoon sun is baking your room (even with the shades lowered) it’s hot and stays hot until well into the night.
Big bathroom and lots of closet space. Best storage layout ever.
Breakfast is buffet for all 3 hotels so super busy. Expect to wait 5-10minutes for the coffee machines. Only 4 coffee machines and they are very slow, so long lines in busy period. Food is good, not great, with many options including gluten free bread, vegetables, etc. a bit light on fruit and no fresh juice. If you are afraid of Yellow Jackets (bees) sit inside as they pester the tables outside.
Almost Four Seasons level prices so i expected more. Service is acceptable, some great, some so-so.
I wouldn’t stay here again, perhaps spend a bit more (ugh, it’s already expensive) and find somewhere a bit more comfortable and closer to Old Town, or further away on a secluded beach.

We stayed here in July 2024 and opted for the random room allocation through check out.
I read reviews where this had turned out to be a good option but for us not so much.
The room was nice don't get me wrong, but it was right next to the entrance to one of the buildings so we couldn't really sit on the balcony or have the curtains open without an audience.
The room was pleasant though and the air con powerful which was appreciated in the 40 degree heat.
There are several pools some of which are freshwater,. A spa, gym and access to the sea despite the rocky coastline.
There are a few resturants and bars located on the premises and they aren't exactly cheap, but dubrovnik isn't a cheap place. So the prices were kind of in line of what was expected.
The hotel is big and there are many rooms so there isn't any kind of personal feel. With that said we had a good time here and utilised the loungers out on the rocky coast most days where towels are provided.
It's a bit of a free for all with the loungers and people do get down EARLY to claim the best spots, but with that said we were pretty chill with it and never failed to get a lounger by the sea. There did seem to be a set amount every day and you would see guests come down looking for loungers in the early afternoon and getting annoyed when none were free.
Breakfast, initially, was a bit manic. Everyone goes around the same time and so I would recommend going early just to avoid queuing up for a coffee or at the ommlette station. Nether the less there was plenty of selections and the food was superb. The staff are very efficient.
The gym was also pretty good. Better than alot of other hotel gyms I have used if you're into that sort of thing.
The spa we didn't use, but we were unable to get a late check out for our late flight and used these amenities before our flight which were small but okay.
The hotel is based on a promenade which leads directly to the town which was a nice walk in the evening.
The hotel is anywhere between 10-30 minutes drive to old town in an uber depending on traffic. Everyone goes there in the evening and there's only one way to get there so leave yourself a bit of time if travelling for a dinner reservation. We utilised uber daily here. It's cheap and really efficient.
The only real thing I could suggest for this hotel is to have some water despensers around the hotel. There is one in the gym which is utilised by people who are not using the gym as there's no supermarkets locally and a 750ml bottle of water will set you back around 6 euro at the hotel.
Other than that we had a pleasant time here with no complaints.

We stayed at this hotel in early September 2024. It is one of five linked 'Royal' hotels all along from each other. We booked a Panoramic Sea View Room with balcony. We arrived to a lovely room but it was on the side, so although we could see the sea to one side, we looked directly out onto another hotel. I would not therefore call this a panoramic sea view (panoramic meaning wide and unobstructed) - the sea view certainly wasn't that and we got no sunsets as we thought. This was disappointing, especially noting we paid extra for what we thought would be an unobstructed view of the sea, half of which was obscured by the hotel side wall. We also shared a balcony with the room next door, which was not advised at the time of booking and again was a disappointment. We had to therefore make sure no belongings were left on our balcony and ensure the patio door was kept locked. The actual hotel complexes are vast, spacious and clean. Numerous pools and sunbeds and we never had an issue getting a space. One comment would be that on a particularly windy and choppy sea day, holiday makers were still allowed to enter the sea into the hotels cordoned off area and using the hotels metal step ladder. It wasn't until some people got into difficulty that they assessed the situation and put a red flag up (which incidentally is not near to where the sea entrance was and was therefore missed by many people). Eventually, they brought the steps up, however, we felt this could have been done a lot sooner and the situation handled better. Final comment is breakfast - lovely food but they need more coffee machines & a better layout - which would make any queues for these coffee machines out of the way of the food collection area ! One last thing, don't expect too much from Lapad, the beach itself is very run down, all the bars/restaurants etc directly facing the beach are closed and in poor condition, there are no sunbeds, its all very unattractive. Lapad itself is ok although we thought that it too was a bit shabby. Our advice would be to get an Uber or jump on the bus and go into Dubrovnik old town ! Prices better too, beats paying €8 for a 125 ml glass of wine in the Royal !

Returned to the Royal Neptun for the 5th time after previously having fabulous holidays here.
The big selling point of the hotel (for people that have stayed previously and are aware that it is usually available) is the huge rock terrace immediately accessing the sea which is usually filled with sun loungers.
I brought family and friends to stay for my 50th birthday and was hugely disappointed - in fact it ruined the holiday- to find this year there are no sun loungers on rock terraces anywhere and limited loungers on upper levels of hotel.
Guests should have been notified of the absence of these beds as this is the sole reason i have returned to The Royal Neptun . If I had been aware this facility was not available I would have taken my group somewhere else.
The hotel was unhelpful and dismissive and did not give a reason that the beds are now not available. An email of compilaint was not acknowledged.
As a result and rather than upsetting myself furthermore by keep complaining at reception and stressing over trying to secure beds for our party we have left the hotel each morning and gone to local bech clubs and paid for beds which has proved costly and time consuming.
The hotel cost does not justify the facilities provided. I feel that we have hugely overpaid for facilities now not available and would like compensation in this respect.
A truly disappointing trip and bad customer service and communication
