We have been to Nantucket several times but this was our first stay at the White Elephant. The location was prime- easy walk to shopping and dining plus an easy walk to fun neighborhoods and Jetty Beach. Our room was great and the service was all we could ask for. All in all it was a perfect anniversary getaway.

Just got back from our first-ever visit to Nantucket. The White Elephant was a large part of our falling in love with The Grey Lady. The service was impeccable. From the phone call we received 3 weeks before our trip offering to make dinner reservations and travel arrangements, to the check-out gift bag with water bottles and granola bars to...

This is a great spot and easily accessible to the main shopping and dining area of Nantucket. Needless to say it is a bit pricey but the quality is top notch. The services and amenities were excellent. We'd go back again.

I recently surprised my wife with a trip for her 40th. She still talks about a trip to the White Elephant 11 years ago as having the most comfortable mattress in the world, so I decided to spend the extra $ to do it right. We had a 2nd floor suite with a deck and an amazing view of the...

I recently visited Nantucket with my wife during the busy summer season and decided to stay at the White Elephant Hotel . Overall, the hotel is very expensive and if you compare the location and amenities to a similar hotel at other locations ,yes, it does seem outrageously overpriced (e.g. you could possibly get a deluxe Ocean Front room at...

I enjoyed my stays here (two in total), but I feel the prices are too steep for the amentities, location and the rooms. Everything is good - but it's just not great. Hard to justify the prices and the location is a bit out of the way from the main part of town. I am not sure if I will...

Dear NYUgradgal; Thank you for posting your review! We are located two blocks from the downtown area and yes, the summer prices on the island are high. I would recommend looking at Nantucket in the Spring or Fall, as it is absolutely beautiful here then and there is so much more value to be found islandwide. Thank you again! Bettina...

The White Elephant is a first class property, with a very good restaurant and excellent staff. Nantucket is not really the kind of place I would go for a couple of weeks, or even a week, but for a few days, maybe a long weekend, it's absolutely perfect. The staff at the White Elephant can arrange almost anything for you,...

Dear George 817; Thank you for the lovely review. I am glad you enjoyed your recent trip to Nantucket and that our two bedroom cottage accommodation suited you and your family. The trip out to Great Point past the Wauwinet is spectacular. Thank you for suggesting it to other Tripadvisor readers. Sincerely, Bettina Landt

Finding a high quality, modern and spacious hotel on the island is difficult; especially in the summer. We literally walked out of an inn that was reserved for us, and settled into a lovely suite at this hotel for a five day stay. The staff and service were top shelf. They were friendly and professional. The answer to any question...

Just finished 4 nights at the White Elephant. Great Location. Attentive Staff. Way overpriced for class and Size of Room. Also, Breakfast should be included. Property itself is a good location but at $595 a night it just should be a great room as well.

While you can accept that the hotel prices at incredibly high levels, you shouldn't be disappointed with what you get, right?! I took the cheapest rate I could find there by staying from Sunday until Wednesday, and it was still over $500 a night. Many rooms are over $1000. The rooms are very small and there isn't room for two...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The White Elephant has been an exclusive summertime retreat since the 1920s. The height of preppy New England elegance, this is the place where brides dream of being married and families come for generations. A stone's throw from the center of town, this 64-room island treasure has accommodations ranging from garden cottages to suites on the harbor. The hotel's mascot, a white elephant named Trunket, presides over its greener than green lawn. Set with plush lounge chairs, it overlooks bustling Nantucket Harbor and calm Children's Beach.
