Detailed Reviews
If you are travelling to Christmas Island don't expect 5 star or even 4 star accommodation. The Mango Tree would have to be the best available and it isn't that bad. The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. Latest flat screen TVs. On the down side, the cleaners could be a bit more careful wiping things down (the doors and door jambs are grubby), there was no breakfast service when I was there and not much choice outside, and a few more amenities wouldn't go astray. On the positive - they very graciously offered a late check out to cater for the afternoon flight times.

With limited accommodation on Christmas Island, I was delighted to stay at Mango Tree Lodge for a week. Just a 10 minute stroll to the main supermarket, and 15 minutes walk to The Grotto swimming hole. Quiet location with the rooms set well back from the road (not that there is much traffic to worry about). The single bedroom apartment is on two levels, spacious bedroom with A/C and ceiling fan, also a large flat screen TV. Tea and Coffee making facilities are also provided. Very clean and serviced daily if required, great hostess, one of the best on the island.

This was my third trip to the island and this is by far the best accommodation I have stayed in. For a start it is actually run like a hotel where they welcome guests and provide a service. They greeted me by name each time which was a nice touch.
The rooms are clean and comfortable. They are 3.5 star standard my mainland standards. The bathroom was good and they provide face clothes, soap & shampoo which was a surprise after my previous visits.
Breakfast service was available but I only had the coffee which was excellent.
The hotel is located on the edge of the Settlement and was very quiet.

This was the second time I've stayed here and it is still run by the friendly and helpful couple. The rooms were spotless, good aircon, big tv and strong water pressure in the shower. Only a short walk up the road to some restaurants. Wifi is patchy at best but hey, log off while you're here!

Been visiting CI a couple of times per year for over 4 years now, always love the welcome I get at Mango Tree Lodge.
Rooms are comfortable, best place for Breakfast on the island. Love Tamara's home made yoghurt.
Would not stay anywhere else on Christmas Island.

Was pleasant, with lovely views of the ocean from the Balcony of the standard rooms. The executive suites, howeverhad a lovely view of the standard rooms. and although two storey, have a small balcony barely able to fit 2 chairs.

So I arrived in xmas island and had to contact jenni for a free transfer to the lodge, I find out she is also Kim who owns the lodge as well. Kim being her Chinese name. I was the only guest in all week. So had the place to myself. At least I didn’t need to jostle for a place in the jacuzzi tub. Accommodation was spacious and well maintained. I had a great view across to the Indian Ocean across the tropical palms. A communal kitchen was available and well kept clean and tidy. Housekeeping was excellent and nothing was to much trouble. All in all a good place to stay. Oh and you can rent a 4 WD from jenni/Kim as they run a rental business as well. You will need one.

This lodge is at the north end of the Settlement. It is clean and comfortable. There is a common area/pantry with usual facilities that you could make your own meals. Mr. Kiat, the owner also owns a car rental company so you can rent a car directly from him at arrival.

Mango Tree Lodge is one of many places I stayed at during a recent trip to the island. It is at the very end of the settlement, meaning it is not as convenient as some of the other options, but on the other hand is quieter as well. Nothing in the settlement is exactly "far away" anyway. My ground floor room was spacious and tidy, with a comfortable bed and a desk. Internet charge of $20/day was a bit steep,
My main issue was the ants in the room. As a result of these regular guests, actual paying guests are asked to keep any un-sealed food in the fridge, along with crockery and cutlery being kept there. This doesn't leave much room for food. As it turns out, Special K at fridge temperature isn't too bad.
My other issue was the guest upstairs from me stomping around very late at night. Get yourself an upper level room to avoid finding yourself in this situation.
Tamara and Voytek are friendly and helpful hosts.
My stay was mostly a pleasant one and I'd have no problem staying again at the Mango Tree Lodge.

We were billeted here by Virgin airlines when they could not fly us out as scheduled. Was a bit fusty on arrival and no fly door on main door. Nice area and has a spa bath in garden. Ok for a couple. Within walking distance to bar and some restaurants. Close to the sea but no views.

"Standard rooms are better value for money, and for mine afford more living space and better views. The Gazebo and BBQ areaare superb to sit and relax after a hard day, and cook for yourself, as the Island eating hours are very strict, so if you are after 8:00 pm, either no food left, or no service."Read full review
