Bienvenue, Maeva, Welcome.

Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

Boutique Hotel Kon Tiki Tahiti garners appreciation for its modern, spacious rooms equipped with kitchenettes, though some guests have mentioned disruptions from street and nightclub noise. The hotel's cleanliness receives high marks, with particular praise for well-kept facilities. While views on value are polarized, the service is generally celebrated for the staff's warmth and efficiency, despite occasional communication hiccups.
The hotel's ambiance and rooftop bar ambiance are highlights, as is its convenient location near the ferry terminal and downtown attractions. However, noise levels and parking limitations have been points of contention for some visitors.

Detailed Reviews
I stayed in the Kon Tiki the day after it opened. The lift was just getting started and there was no café/restaurant, but if you ordered breakfast, they would bring it to you in your room.
The hotel was selected for me by the Aranui5 company as I was lecturing on their Marquesas voyage. I did not know about the Kon Tiki, but many I met in Papeete seemed to know about its opening.
My room was comfortable, with a large mural on one wall, My view was "uta"; that is, inland, so there was a construction yard and another property being constructed. I am guessing that if the view was "tai" it would be of the new ferry building: a monster of a construction to cope with expected crowds after the long COVID hiatus.
The neighbourhood is just outside the main Pape'ete harbour run, a lot of business closures (COVID, again) and a rolicking disco just next door.
Facilities were new (of course) and all worked, including the wi-fi (in French wee-fee, so's you know) and large tele, the latter not fully connected to anything much.
A table/desk ran along the wall opposite the mural but, oddly, no chair. I brought in a metal one from the small balcony of the room that was not very comfortable.
The place seemed to be doing a brisk business, with guests in the small lobby asking questions, being answered by pleasant staff (2) who easily spoke English as well as their native French/Tahitian.
The main Pape'ete shopping area is about 4 blocks long, with the "Trois Brassieres" Three Beer Brewers marking the end of the treck.
As I said, I was booked in for a night just as the Kon Tiki was opening, so it is unfair to mention that overnight a piece of the wallpaper covering the bathroom ceiling peeled away and flopped to the floor as I was sleeping.
Not an inconvenience and proof the place was just finished.

We stayed one night at the Kon Tiki as it is conveniently located across the ferry terminal and we had taken a ferry from Moorea to Tahiti.
It’s also in downtown Papeete close to all amenities. So location wise 10/10.
Staff were friendly, courteous and room was spacious. Downside was that our room was facing the Main Street where loud music and traffic noise could be heard into the wee hours of the morning. Had the windows been triple glazed this would not have been an issue. For this I give it 8/10.
They have a restaurant on the 7th floor. Now this is where I deduct huge points. Both the hotel reception nor in the restaurant did they specify that you could not have a plate to share without having ordered main course. We were enjoying our tapas with lovely cocktails when we asked to see the tapas menu again. That’s all we asked. The manager came charging to our table and said to us that this was not a bar or a tapas place and unless we ordered we were asked to vacate our table . He said it in rudest possible way. The waitress who was serving was extremely embarrassed and apologised for the behaviour of the manager saying that he is an an expatriate and not a true Polynesian as that’s is not the way Polynesians behave. We left without having finishing our drinks or tapas.
For this I give the restaurant a rating of 0/10.
We complained to the hotel’s customer service manager and we made it very clear to him that a very poor review will be given.
Even though the restaurant may have different management the fact that it is located at the Kon Tiki and therefore by default is associated to the hotel. The restaurant itself gives the hotel a bad reputation.
By all means stay here but avoid their 7th floor restaurant.

Ia'Ora na Papiya, Thank you for your comment, we appreciate you taking the time to give us your feedback on your experience at the Kon Tiki Tahiti Hotel. We're very concerned about the management of the restaurant, because as you say, and you're right, it's the hotel's image that's at stake. Soon, we'll be welcoming our new F&B manager and his chef to improve our restaurant and bar in the same way as the kon tiki tahiti hotel experience. We'd love to change your mind next time you're in Papeete, because we want every guest to be satisfied with their stay at Kon Tiki Tahiti. Reception is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we offer a "concierge service" to help you with any questions you may have. Don't hesitate to ask. Māuruuru, Guest relation Manager Nils

We had no problems with noise from club next door but it does front onto the port road and was noisy from traffic from 6am ish. Room was big and well maintained; bathroom fine.It is right opposite the Moorea ferry terminal and maybe 3 minutes walk from cruise ships pier. There are several reasonable restaurants within 5 mins walk.
They now seem to have a dedicated room for luggage storage and happy to use it.
They also have a series of "cabins" on level 1 which are effectively a bed and room to stand but not much more. However these are v useful if flights etc are late ( ours to Auckland was at 3am) as you can get some rest. Also they have an open air lounge on same floor with access to toilets / showers which has same function. This was free but think you probably needed to have stayed in a room before/after.
In summary a good big room v convenient for ferries/ cruises: only slight down side was traffic noise

We stayed a few nights in an ocean view Tahitian Home room on the 5th floor and found it to be well set up and the staff very friendly and helpful. The ocean view was obstructed by the ferry terminal across the road but it was still nice and we had a small balcony which was great for drying a bit of washing. The functional space in the room was good with a long bench area and places for bags, large robe with safe and a high table with stools near the kitchen which was great for laptops. The kitchenette had a microwave, fridge, automatic coffee machine with beans (get milk from downstairs), and a large sink and bench but no detergent or tea towels provided.
The bathroom has dispensers with shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner but no place in the shower to put your own stuff if you bring it, a shelf would be good. The bed was large and very comfortable and the air-con worked well. We also had a sofa bed so plenty of comfort and space.
Breakfast was simple but nice enough, except for the day that they ran out of bacon at 7.15am. Eggs cooked how you order them, bacon, sausages, juice, good coffee, yoghurts and fruit, as well as a selection of freshly made pastries.
The Wifi was quick and worked well and the lift up to the rooms was small but also worked well.
It is in a good central location especially if you’re catching a ferry across to Moorea with the terminal directly across the road and a short drive to the airport. If you’re hiring a car I’d recommend paying the hotel the XPF2000 per night for secure parking nearby. There is some free street parking but it’s very limited. We were advised that we could park for one night at Intersport near the roundabout but we came back to find our car chained in, luckily it was loose and we could still get out.
There is only one negative for this hotel and that’s the noisy disco next door that is loud until about 3am most nights. The hotel is aware of the issue but there is no easy solution. If you bring ear-plugs its fine and I think the advantages of the hotel are worth it. We returned to the hotel from Moorea for our final night and I think they mixed our rooms up so our son had the quieter room at the other end and we had the smaller room 605 right next to the lift and the disco. So it’s not perfect but we would happily stay at Kon Tiki again if in Tahiti.

We stayed one night pre-cruise. We selected the hotel because of proximity to the cruise port and because of the rooftop bar. Location is almost directly across the street/ easy walk to the cruise port, ferry port and tourist information. Hitting the rooftop bar after the long flight in made us feel like we had arrived in Tahiti! Amazing view, great vibe and live music. Pizza available. The taxi was about $30 from the airport.
Recommend booking ahead as this is very popular with cruisers. We got the last room available which was very small with a bunkbed and shared bath. Not normally our style but was quiet, clean and the A/C worked great so we slept well. We did not opt for added breakfast or the downstairs coffeeshop.I brought packets of instant coffee and we used the kitchenette to make coffee. Rooms with bathrooms are available at higher prices but we just took what we got on the spot.
The staff at the front desk were friendly, fast and accommodating. They hold luggage(free) after check out until ship embarkation. I saw luggage was held for those who had disembarked while waiting for check in. This allows freedom to do a tour or the market. The lobby and coffee shop were a great place to hang out while getting organized.

Such an amazing Beautiful unique hotel!
You put your card in slot by door & all lights, AC and curtains open automatically. Loved the background light above bed! Also loved the sign “Smile you are in Tahiti”
The Ferry straight across street & Cruise terminal next to that.

On our way to Moorea, we arrived on United’s San Fransisco flight which meant we needed to spend the night in Papeete. The Boutique Hotel Kon Tiki ended up being the perfect spot. We had a great inside room with a big bathroom, great shower and mini kitchen. The room and the hotel in general were very clean. The bed and shower were great. The automatic coffee machine was excellent, ground beans and made perfect espresso. The bar on the top floor has great views of the port and Moorea. The hotel is right across the ferry terminals which made it easy the next day to walk across the street and hop on the ferry to Moorea. I found the breakfast buffet a bit pricey, but you can go to the ferry terminal across the street to get a cheaper a la carte breakfast which was fine for us. On the last day of our vacation, we had a late flight back to the US and the Boutique Hotel Kon Tiki came through with a day room in their Polynesian Cabins, a tiny room with shared bath/shower that worked out great if you are not too claustrophobic. You can just leave your bags, walk around town, take a nap, have a shower and jump on your flight back. All and all, I highly recommend this hotel, friendly staff and clean environment.

This hotel is Conveniently located steps from the cruise and ferry terminal, yet only minutes from the heart of Papeete. A taxi ride to the airport is about $25.
The modern, air conditioned rooms are large and airy. The rooftop bar offers great views of city and harbor. There are many restaurants nearby. The only improvement i would suggest would be to remove the bathtub and install a better shower.

We stayed one night as a pre-island stay as our flight arrived after the last ferry to Moorea had left. Hotel Kon Tiki is newly refurbished and very nicely appointed. The rooms were studio like with coffee makers, hot plate, mini fridge, and a balcony we could sit on.
Our view was of the industrial yard below. The other side of the hotel overlooked the ferry dock. The ferry dock is right there which is a huge bonus if you are departing the next morning. You simply cross the street and viola, you are there.
There is a street restaurant one block away. You have all you need for an overnight stay.

Not great, but bits of niceness. The main issue is around staff training.
Some staff at reception are nice, but we encountered two that were terrible.
One was during the evening, and a male. He obviously did not care to help the guests. We had to move our room because the original room had a massive flying cockroach floating around. However, the new room didn't have either a telephone to call reception, or water in the room. The previous one did. So i went down to reception to try and fix this, and the response only was that: not everything is complete, and housekeeping can only provide water. He obviously did not care to move and help.
The second was during checkout. There was some miscommunication on breakfast pricing. The approach the female receptionist to dealing with this is speaking over us, and being extremely defensive, using words like 'this is impossible, we would have never given you this price.'
Overall, would not return.

Guest relation Manager
