Ahitea Lodge is a decent place to stay if you're in Papeete for a night. If you're on Tahiti for an extended stay be warned that this place is in the middle of a bad neighborhood. I stayed at Ahitea Lodge because it was low cost and had decent reviews. The lodge itself lived up to expectations. The continental breakfast was enjoyable. It was basically half of a baguette with jam and butter, coffee, and juice. The rooms were clean and had AC, and the bed was comfortable enough. Having to use a shared bathroom was only a minor inconvenience once, but otherwise not a problem. The operators unfortunately do not speak much English. There is no place to park a rental car as far as I can tell. The neighborhood sucks. I wanted to experience Tahiti without breaking the bank. I figured I could walk around the closer parts of Papeete, enjoy whatever was nearby, and pay for excursions as necessary. The walking around part was not fun. Ahitea Lodge is buried deep in a residential zone, and the nearest intersection leading out is constantly occupied by groups of tough guys who I was later informed were "just" drug dealers. I had to leave the lodge to get food, and walking through that neighborhood made me nervous, especially with all the stares I got. I was never out after dark. When it came time to checkout I got a cab, even though the dock is only 4 blocks away. If you want to stay someplace where you are free to ramble about I recommend staying someplace else.…

We arrived at short notice after a cruise misadventure on a flight from Bora Bora for an overnight stay. We took the public bus which does not run to a schedule for 200 Polynesian Franc equivalent of 2 US$. The driver dropped us off close by. So shoes off when you enter the house. There is a shared bathroom and the rooms are clean with AC. TV is downstairs (only French channels). The host is friendly. The neighbourhood is at the lower socio-economic end. The property has a small pool, roosters and a couple of cats. The super market is five minutes away on the main street and a bakery opening at 6:30 am in also three minutes away. Good for a short island hopping stay if you are not a beach person.

Wonderful hosts go out of there way to assist. Room is spartan - beds, headboards and a closet. Not the best part of town but just take a taxi back from downtown instead of walking Outside - beautiful refreshing pool

I stayed here for two nights in November 2018. The owners are very friendly and they property is very quaint. The free breakfast was delicious and you get to sit with the other guests on one large table. There is a pool but I never got the chance to use it. The room was small and basic but that’s what you get for a cheap price. There was no TV or air conditioning in my room which is a negative. My room did have a private bathroom. The lodge is located on a small side street in a residential neighborhood so it’s in a nice, quiet area. It’s about a 10 minute walk into the center of town which wasn’t too bad. The owners also arranged for an airport transfer for me which was very nice. If you’re looking for someplace cheap and quiet, this is the place to go.

We spent four days at the lodge before our next cruise out of Papeete. We stayed in Room 4 which in my opinion is the nicest room overlooking the swimming pool. It also has its own bathroom. Some of the other rooms have a shared bathroom. The rooms are very clean but basic. They offer an adequate Tahitian style continental breakfast. There is a very good grocery store up the street for snacks, salads, cheese, water, wine and beer etc. Bring your own shampoo and water. The only amenity they provide is a bar of soap. The only drawback I could see were the cats roaming the property. I have an allergy to cats. Overall, we had a enjoyable time there but maybe staying in town would have been more advantageous for restaurants etc.

We stayed there for one night before our cruise. We had originally booked another hotel using Marriot award points but the hotel got sold and the new owner did not honor our reservation. We found this out 3 weeks prior to the trip so we were happy to find this lodge for US$87/night where all other hotels were more like US$300/night. I was a bit disappointed that we went from a 4 star hotel to a 2 star lodge, but we had very few choices to choose from. Our flight arrived in Papeete around 6:15 am. After picking up luggage and taking a taxi, we arrived at the lodge around 7:30 am. The hotel staff greeted us with a cool glass of drinking water and were able to check us in that early. The room was clean, very basic with balcony, working A/C, no TV, night stand, and bathroom was shared with other rooms. Wifi in the lobby only. The bed was quite comfortable. They only provided two bars of soap and towel, but no shampoo or hairdryer, although I can't tell if they could have provided those if we had asked. The ceiling fan was noisy but the A/C worked well enough so we turned off the noisy fan overnight. We had a comfortable and restful sleep. The neighboring rooms were not occupied so our room was very quiet. Morning breakfast was decent and we had great conversations with the workers there. Checkout time was 10 am, but we were welcome to stay at the lobby until we got on a taxi at 1 pm to leave for the cruise. They also helped us call our taxi. The hotel is situated in downtown and at the end of a dark dead-end street. I would not feel comfortable going out at night by myself. The neighborhood otherwise seems safe. There are restaurants and convenient stores within walkable distance. …

This is a family friendly lodge which the kids really enjoyed. Especially the swimming pool the friendly service and the breakfast patio. close to the Ferry terminal which is the reason we booked it. The wifi was better around the patio swimming pool area and it would have been really great if the air con was working. Unfortunately the surrounding area is run down and my kids did not enjoy the walks from town back to the lodge in the evenings. Just something to keep in mind

First of all- if you are looking for a five star hotel, this isn't it. You will not like it here so keep looking. My friend and I loved staying here! The rooms are good size but basic. The beds are comfortable and clean. What more do you really need while on vacation, how long do you really spend in your room? This lodge felt to us like we were staying in a friend's spare room. Ramona and Nani were friendly, accommodating, and welcoming. The lodge has a resident cat which I loved because I was missing my own cats at home. Like I said before, it really feels like you are staying over at a friend's house. We met the owner, Michel and he was very nice. I really don't understand the bad reviews unless these folks were expecting Four Seasons accommodations. The continental breakfast was delicious and filling. You are served a big chunk of a baguette with butter and jam. I walked over to our favorite local market, Easy Market, to purchase more butter as I love lots of butter on my bread. Easy Market was an easy 20 minute walk. You could buy all that you need there. At the lodge, there are two refrigerators where you can store your perishable goods that you purchased at Easy Market. The patio where you eat your breakfast is quaint, inviting and comfortable. Adjoining the patio is the outdoor pool. I made sure to spend as much time as I could in the pool. It wasn't a full lap size pool but it was clean and well taken care of. It was so refreshing to come back after a day of shopping and sightseeing and take a dip in the pool. The only negative that I could say is that it is almost always booked on the dates that I am looking to stay there. ;-) This is the first place that I will go to book first whenever I plan a trip to Tahiti. Merci beau coup to cher Ramona et Nani. A bien tot.…

Small but clean room. New owners have updated all rooms and made very commodious. Romina and Addo were the owners. Like the pool and the covered dinning/conversation room with big screen TV. Opens up to nicely landscaped swimming pool. Comfortable with shared large refrigerator, big kitchen sink and community dinning table. Clothes line off of swimming pool if you want to hand wash and hang some laundry. Served us chilled water and some homemade banana crepes. The rooms had a plug in bug guard that worked well. Walls thin and leave windows open for air so can hear your neighbors. Nice though and priced very reasonable for the area's hotel options.
