Got a standard room with double bed. It's good for a person, might get a little congested with two. Had some issues with getting the correct water temperature in the shower. Complimentary tea and coffee is provided in the room. Room has a TV with a few channels and air conditioning. Safe is available in the room to keep your valuables and i got a nice view from ny room. The room looked a bit old but overall its alright, you get what you paid for. Would advise to book during specials (i went during the $99 local special deal)
Customer service was very nice. Hotel has a shop and restaurant (Hillcrest), swimming pool, bar and lounge area
Breakfast wasn't included with the room but for an additional $15fjd you get fruits , tea/ coffee/ juice, Weetbix/Cornflakes, toast with jam and butter for breakfast

I was here for a week for a work trip. The trip was absolutely fabulous so that meant I could mostly laugh at our experiences in this wild hotel. I was moved room so many times due to squelling door locks (yes!) and other things falling apart. The cafe is good however! :)

The main problems we had with our room (116) was the huge patches of mould on the ceiling, the strong smell of cigarettes and alcohol upon entering the room and the extremely unattractive view out of the window of a rusty tin roof, scaffolding, bits of wire etc (room was stated as 'delux'). We kept the curtains shut so we didn't have to look at it. The rest of the room was clean. The only other problem we had was the Friday night that we stayed, where there was a fair amount of drinking going on outside on the footpath and people running around the halls laughing and screaming - all this entertainment for us at 3am! We changed our room to 116 after that. On the good side, the restaurant was very clean and very tidy, with a good selection. One of the waitresses, Dipeeka, was one of the best waitresses we have encountered for a very long time, she was attentive, extremely polite, efficient and even when the restaurant wasn't busy, she was always busy filling milk jugs and juice, cleaning surfaces, replacing jams and cereals, straightening cutlery and was an all round lovely girl, who we would certainly love to employ here in New Zealand. One of the guards downstairs in the carpark we were also impressed with, from memory I think his name was Maika, who was very polite and took his duties very seriously, another staff member we would be happy to have on our team here in New Zealand. All in all, a nice enough stay and we'd probably stay here again. Great location, close to the CBD. Good air conditioner.

Response from carl_perrin018, General Manager at Peninsula International Hotel
Responded 13 Nov 2012
I can only respond on the comments made for room 116, as the previous room number was not quoted. The ceiling of room 116 had no patches of mould and there was no smell of alcohol or smoke in the room on the day of my inspection. In actual room 116 is a smoking room. As far as the rusty tin roof is concerned unfortunately this relates to buildings on a property not owned by the hotel. The scaffolding also referred to is neatly stacked between two sheds. Rooms on three floors are currently under renovation and will be completed early next year. Drinking on the footpath outside of the hotel premises is very hard to stop however the security have the approval to move people on as our guests are our main concern. If there is a disturbance in the hotel that causes problems for our guests they only need to contact our reception and our porter and security will attend to the complaint. I look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel as indicated in your comments.

Please, please, please AVOID.We were vacationing in Fiji and saw on line photos but upon visiting we realized how we were fooled. I called this a “Wilson Way” hotel from Stockton,CA. Our first room was so filthy that we had to request for a change. The second room was equally bad. The only thing good about the second room was the AC was a little better. The bath tub was moldy, AC condensate dripping along the wall, door locks all tempered and broken, hot water could burn you to death, tiles all black, coach was filthy I wouldn’t even let my dog sit on it.
I booked a deluxe room thinking it will be nicer than standard room but it was a mistake! Online rate was $165/ night but upon checkout, it was $268.
The website said free internet but upon checking in, they want extra for it.
2 out of the 3 days, they ran out of breakfast. Cereal was gone, fruit was gone and juice was gone. Only thing left was coffee and toast!
The only positive thing I can say is the employees were really really nice, respectful and courteous.
This was my first and last stay here. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody.

A very lovely hotel, my family received complimentary breakfast which was worth with. The rooms are awesome with a television provided and fully air-conditioning room. The washroom facility is kept clean with hot water system. The stuffs are friendly always checking if we need our room clean or need new towels or toilet paper. Such a lovely hotel would recommend people to stay in this hotel.

We needed to find a location at very short notice. Don’t be fooled by the clean and modern entrance and reception area, what awaits is worse than horrible. Dirty stained sheets, mouldy rooms and shower, threadbare towels, windows that don’t close and really quite disgusting and filthy. Have never felt unsafe in a hotel room before until now. This is based on two rooms being booked so not a once off event. Have stayed at better caravan parks in a tent! Do yourself a favour - AVOID

Thank you to Inia & Gitta for being so very helpful and friendly. I was in a big hurry to check in, moving from a bad hotel to the Peninsula Hotel because I had to drop my luggage and groceries, before I left for a River Tubing Excursion. Both Receptionists quickly checked me in and found me a fridge for my precious cheese (in Fiji, it certainly is precious). When the shuttle transfer for the activity did not arrive on time, they immediately called the company and followed through. Very professional!
Although the room was small, it was clean and perfectly adequate for US $52/N. Also, the breakfast food, Bar drinks were fine. Thank you for your kindness.

This is the most disgusting filthy hotel I have stayed at. Filthy sheets, hair in the bed, blood stains on furniture, black mould in bathrooms, no hot water, broken windows bogged up with toilet paper, green growth on toilet which smelled like a dirty urinal.
Stayed one of three booked nights and found a new hotel. I will be referring this with photos to the health authorities

Quite an expensive rate for not great quality.
The staff are wonderful, especially the lady manning the front desk!
Everything else is fairly budget from the room, water power, food.
The room-
- thin walls that allow you to capture all the surrounding noise from cars driving past, cleaners cleaning the rooms and passing conversations. The hotel was under going renovations, which is perfectly acceptable. However, starting construction at 4am is not acceptable and ruined any form of rest, which is the main purpose of a hotel room. Just to mention there was a sign informing guest there would be renovations, but indicated a time from 8am!
The water
Good to see there was hot water, but ran out of pressure in the morning. We did ask the staff to fix it, but with check out at 11am and Fiji time the norm, we couldn't get a shower in.
Food-
Breakfast was mediocre, but can't complain as the staff try their best. Maybe some investment into the chef to improve quality of food to cater for international guests.
Luckily checked into the Tanaoa plaza hotel for the rest of our duration, which was much better.
If your on a budget, there is nothing wrong with the accommodation as you pay for what you get. But we weren't on a budget and were happy to pay a premium for quality, which is why we checked out into another hotel. Hope the review is helpful.

I stayed there recently and usually do at least 5 times a year, based on the friendly reception staff and location of the hotel.. in october i checked in at 11pm having just arrived from nadi and had to change rooms 4 times - the room wasnt the delux room that had been booked 3 weeks in advance, the aircon wasnt working in another, lights were not working in the third and the 4th and final room had an aircon that did work but basically leaked and flooded most of the floor, but this was the only room left there was no other option, by now its 2am in the morning and the duty manager was not on site- after asking to speak to the duty manager i had to wait 3 DAYS to see him as he was never on site!! When i did meet him i explained that it was unfair to charge me the full rate of my first night and if we could come to some sort of ageeement of a discounted rate as i enjoy the location and staff, qnd inregularly stay at the hotel 4 times in 2014 alone - without even considering my proposal he just said NO didnt care thats their rate.. i asked if he thought that it was fair and he just continued on his "thats our rate" speach no apology nothing. i was forced to pay a full rate for a room i didnt even get despite booking 3 weeks in advance - as soon as i found another hotel i moved, and kindly asked the staff to tell the duty manager (because again he was not on site) to tell him to go and stick it where the sun doesnt shine - i dont know if he got that message but i sure hope he gets this one.. i would advise going to stay at WUVA MOTOR IN..the rooms are bigger, cheaper, better pool ammeneties, built in kitchen ammeneties, cleaner and closer to suva city

I tried doing my washing in the sink. There is a clothes line in the bathroom but due to the humidity it just didn't dry. My underwear was on the clothes line for days making using the bathroom awkward. I then used the same day laundry service and everything was back in the afternoon, clean dry and pressed and cost next to nothing.
