We arrived a day late, and at 11;30 PM, due to Cyclone Mal and Fiji Airways stranding us on Taveuni. Luckily, we had phoned ahead, and "Wayne" was there to let us into our room. The place was totally dead looking, and dark, and we thought we were going to have to sleep on the steps! We were not impressed with the "resort" overall. It has no real Fijian charm, and the rooms are all jammed together on much too small a property, in my opinion. Our "Garden view" room, was on the second floor above the lobby, with a view of the stamped concrete front driveway. The shower in the room was so small, I could not bend over to wash my feet without bumping the door open. There was no light switch for the washroom, it was out in the entrance hall, and even though they provided a hair dryer in the washroom, there was no a/c outlet in the washroom. On the positive side, the room was quiet, had great A/C, a really nice bed(although you needed a step stool to get in and out),and a small fridge. Wi-Fi worked great. The local area has a newish grocery store, gas station, and restaurant complex across the road, so that saved us from having to eat at their restaurant, which requested we put in our dinner order by 3 p.m. Not impressed! The reef out front was suitable for snorkelling, but not great, and the beach was not very good, as it was really rocky. The pool was nice, but we always felt like we were disturbing the privacy of the honeymoon suites, again, everything so jammed together! I regret I can not recommend this property to anyone visiting Fiji.I booked it based on their good reviews by other travellers. Now I am wondering about those "other" travellers.

This week my wife and I stayed at Maui Palms. It was our first time in Fiji and was an incredible experience and we will definitely return. Since our flight arrived early in the morning we got to the hotel around noon before check in. We were helped with our luggage and allowed access to the facility until our room was ready. We saw this happen multiple times to other guests who arrived early. Throughout our stay we were treated like family by the staff including Felix, Lita, Andi and many others. They would always go out of their way to make sure we had everything that was needed. We were called by our names and felt this was something you aren't going to get at a larger resort. When we left we were hugged by the staff since we made such great connections. The resort has a South Pacific design and was beautiful. Since it is a small boutique hotel, you aren't overwhelmed by people and activities and can truly relax. We stayed in the Garden Room which is their economy room and provides great value for what you received. The shower was a little small and sometimes there wasn't enough hot water, but these were not issues for us. The bed was firm, but comfortable. I think there were two 1-inch thick foam pads on the top of mattress and I we didn't have any problems with back or hip pain. We didn't get any pictures of it, but I have included pictures of the ocean front apartment which we were allowed to use after we checked out before our night flight. Definitely liked the fact that there wasn't constant requests for additional fees, tips, etc. Our final bill included the food we ate at the restaurant and laundry service which we used 2 times. We didn't take advantage of the full board option as we did have a few days of excursions and there were a few restaurants near by. In general we ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel. Some of the highlights of Maui Palms include: Free snorkeling, kayaks, stand up paddle boards and reef shoes. Felix was exceptional at sharing from the Fiji native perspective and went far out of his way to make sure we always had what we needed. He shared much about his culture including the value of palm/coconut trees, village leadership structure, use of all kinds of trees and plants and much more. Felix even took me on a brief one-on-one snorkeling trip to swim with baby reef sharks which was a highlight. Unfortunately, I didn't get to take advantage of the low tide reef walk with him which other guests said was excellent. The dinners were exceptional and comparable to a stay at a larger resort with staff always accommodating special request. The reef at Maui Palms provided the absolute best snorkeling when compared to 2 excursions we took to other islands. There are 2 pools onsite which we used daily. We definitely liked the location as it was a 10 minute walk to the grocery store, convenience store, 3 restaurants and their was a spa which we took advantage of to get massages, facials and manicures. I cannot say enough good things about Maui Palms and I would highly recommend it if you are looking to visit the Coral Coast.

Only stayed for 3 days, wish it was more. We had excursions planned and didn't have enough time to enjoy Maui Palms. The breakfast and dinners we had there were good. Loved 3A and 3B apt, the views are to die for. They were adjoining rooms, so enough room for a family of 5. Everything in the rooms was tidy and fresh. The washing machine was in the bathroom and drying racks were provided. The pool is amazing and Instagram worthy. We had a good time exploring during low tide. Some of the family went out kayaking but was unable to see much. Across the road, walking distance, are a few different eateries. All of the people were nice and helpful. The newer apartments are separate from the older villas. You either walk along the beach or along the street to get to them. There is no elevator in the building with the newer apartments.

This was our first trip to Fiji, having visited most of the other islands in the South Pacific, I left everything in my wife's hands and she assured me it would be a great place to spend my ** birthday. We were late leaving Auckland Airport ( towtug issue) We arrived to 34 degrees and 85% humidity, there was a horrific multiple fatality accident ( bus v car ) on the way to the resort and when we did get there they were pumping out the septic tank....needless to say, really wasn't feeling it.....that lasted for about 30 minutes from arriving. We were greeted by Neel, who, although it was late , arranged lunch and showed us to our room. My number one negative is we only booked for a week! My positives a numerous.....the staff are absolutely AWESOME! Andi, Liti, Ben , Neel, and the young Indian girl who's name escapes me......there were other ladies, who we didn't get to know so well ,but were all so nice. And then there was Felix, what an incredible asset he is and an all round good guy, dispite having spent many years in the ocean, I learnt more in a week from him than in all that time..... dispite the fact that he probably meets hundreds of people a year, you felt that you were genuinely friends. The food was better than a lot of resorts we've stayed in at 3x the price, everything was incredibly fresh and the dishes were well presented, imaginative but not over done, the wine list and cocktails could do with a bit of work but the food was so good it was easy to get past that. Location is brilliant, the snorkeling is fantastic and I ticked off a couple of things from my bucket list ( thanks Felix) The Black tip reef Sharks, lion fish , turtle, sea snakes, eels and multiple beautiful fish make it very worthwhile going for a look around. Frankly, Maui Palms ticked all the boxes for us....will definitely be going back and for longer than a week

We wanted a smaller, quiet place to stay for 3 nights with our 11 and 16 year old. Maui Palms was just amazing. We had the top floor, over looking the pool and the ocean. We went snorkeling, exploring rock pools, swimming, walks on the beach and the most brilliant sunsets I have seen. The food here was fresh and tasty, really good. Staff were friendly and helpful. The apartment was really clean and well maintained. I highly recommend Maui Palms for a quiet, peaceful relaxing holiday.

My husband and I kicked off our honeymoon with six nights here, full of snorkeling, kayaking, and reading by the pool or in our sweet villa. We took advantage of the free activities, like the hill walk, snorkel tour, and coconut demonstration which were all enjoyable. Pool area was lovely to have a meal or start the day with a coffee. Dining area and bar were nice as well, we enjoyed playing cards and pool with fellow guests during happy hour. Be ready to eat! We did the full board and were treated to three course dinners every night. Decadent and delicious. We were very well taken care of by the Maui Palms staff, especially Tiger, Andi, Liti, and Sonali. They were so warm and fun, they made our stay easy and wonderful.

Maui Palms was a great escape for me and my partner Sophia. Upon arrival, we received a very warm welcome from the friendly staff with their “Bula” smiles. We stayed in the newly built apartment and the room was everything we expected it to be. Clean and very nice setup. One of the many highlights of our trip was waking up to that view of sunrise over the ocean. Just mind blowing. The food and service was great. One evening while it started to rain, we decided to dine in and watch a movie on one of the many streaming platforms provided. A great way to have a quite evening after a full day of activities like snorkelling, kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming in the beautiful clear sea water. The swimming pool is nice as well with comfortable sun beds which are ideal for reading books or having a down time. The wash and dryer made sure we were ready for activities the next day. I was really impressed with the tennis court at Maui Palms. I play tennis regularly and the court was up to tournament standards. The flexipav surface is kind on the knees which enables longer playing hours. Wayne( the owner) is super nice and was kind enough to have a hit with me and Sophia. Even tho it was Sophia’s first time trying out tennis. She loved it. We also got to try out pickle ball. Something we always wanted to try out. We really enjoyed our stay and left refreshed and recharged. Such a relaxing place yet with so much activity options as well. Great hospitality. Highly recommend Maui Palms to couples, families and friends groups.

We are a little perplexed by the consistent 5-star reviews for Maui Palms, for the following reasons. This is a quiet resort if that's what you're looking for. But our family found the vibe totally flat and virtually non-existent. On arrival, we waited in a reception area, no guest welcome from staff, nothing. This is in contrast to other resorts where you're welcomed with songs, clapping, and guitar. Tina, one of the lovely staff members brought us a glass of water (a juice would have been nice after nearly a 2-hour car ride) until Neel ran us through some information. The location is nice only if (and that's a big IF) the weather is good. If the weather is bad you are pretty much stuck in your room. The only indoor common area (the bar and dining room) has zero atmosphere and nobody in it most of the time, so it's not even like you can go hang out at the bar and chat with other guests. We have experienced bad weather at other resorts but there are always still things going on to keep you occupied. Not here. Here, you may as well have a drink on your own in the room. We experienced extremely high winds while we were there which is part and parcel of Fiji, however, at this resort, there is no escaping it. The two pools are both located right in front by the beach. Nearby resorts like the Warwick and Hideway have their common areas/pools situated to be sheltered to minimise getting impacted by the high winds. There is a small gym onsite which we used regularly, so that was a plus. We stayed in the new apartment building ground floor which was spacious and comfortable, however, the hot water took ages, or didn't come through at all. Sometimes I gave up and had a cold shower! For such a new building, many maintenance issues are already evident. One night of heavy rain, our bathroom floor got so wet from water dripping through the light fitting. The really good thing about the apartment was the use of a washer/dryer. Oh, and resident cockroaches which one of the staff told us were common on the ground floor apartment. This should be an easy fix with pest control spray. As for the tennis court, my teenage sons asked for rackets and were told there are "rules", and that you have to have an exceptional level of ability to use the court and wear correct tennis shoes. This was a real sticking point for us, (and two other families we spoke were unhappy about this as well). You can't even have a friendly hit with the kids... really???? The ONLY person we saw using the court several times was Wayne (the owner) with his buddies who were NOT guests. It is obvious that the court is there for Wayne's personal use only. I am surprised this is not mentioned in any of the reviews. The upsides are the food is good and the staff is lovely, especially Tina, Emma, Tiger and Felix.
