Ferry pick up ran on time, 30 minute trip over to the island. Is a beautiful island, not very big, enough room for all the tourists.
You get unlimited drinks, including beer. There is a amazing buffet lunch, lots of salads and meat. Our kids are normal fussy kids, and couldn’t find much they would eat. There is no kids food, so they ate very little. They did enjoy the unlimited soft drink.
You could get everything you need on the island, snorkel flippers, life jacket. There have more than enough for everyone.
Our kids are 7,11 and 13 and they all had a fantastic time snorkelling all day. Saw lots of fish and even a sting Ray.

Great little island about 30min from Denarau. We booked the half day cruise through south sea cruises and at $189fjn. The island is stunning, the water was warm, we snorkelled, swam and soaked up the sunshine, it was a little windy the day we went and the sea was a little choppy. The staff were funny, chatty and informative. Lots of loungers shaded and unshaded. It’s a small island but still plenty of room to spread out. We also got to go on the semi class bottom boat which was amazing to see the coal reef. Overall great 3hours spent in the middle of the ocean

Very underwhelming. Hardly any soft sand - full of hard coral, rocks and shells.

Very basic food available and rundown amenities including the pool, beach chairs etc.

Submarine was old and couldn’t see much underwater through the glass.

Disappointing..

This was an absolutely rubbish tour and not at all worth the money.
The pool is tiny, no sand, all rocks and coral. Nothing to do, lunch was mediocre and then only a few snacks offered.
Island is tiny and nothing like the brochure. Massage is an open hut. Not at all worth the time or money.

TL:DR I would not recommend this excursion, especially if it's your only opportunity to explore some of the outer islands of Fiji and get away from the resort areas. Rocky unpleasant beaches, worn down snorkeling equipment, lack of shade and questionable bathroom facilities make this feel like the Walmart of Island resorts.

If you stay in Denarau or visit Port Denarau, you'll undoubtedly come into contact with an overly friendly and slightly pushy rep from South Sea Island Cruises. Yes, this is the cheapest island getaway and covers the basics: included food and bev, snorkeling and non-motorized water sports. However, you should really consider quality over cost and opt for something else. ProTip: if you are looking to save and looking at South Sea Island, purchase your excursion in person at the port, rather than in advance online.

The resort itself is only a 30 min or so boat ride from Port Denarau. An air-conditioned bus will pick you up from and return you to your hotel lobby. Prior to your cruise, you check in at the south sea island desk inside the departure terminal at the port, where you get a colored wristband corresponding with your day trip. You're then loaded like sardines onto a catamaran. South Sea Island is the first stop, where you're then unloaded and re-packed like sardines into small tender boats which ferry you to the actual island.

Upon arrival, you receive a quick safety orientation which gives you the lay of the (small) island and a run through of the schedule of events such as cultural performances, snorkeling excursions, etc. Unfortunately, the glass bottom boat (which I was really looking forward to for my non-swimmer mom and tot) was unavailable when we went. The beach sand is composed of crushed shell and sun-bleached coral pieces and was difficult to walk on even with shoes, and unbearable to walk on with bare feet. If you go here, water shoes are a must!

The lunch buffet offered consisted of bland coleslaw (60% mayo, no seasoning), fresh fruit, bread rolls and butter, fried rice (quite good) and lovo (bbq meat items). You could help yourself with any of the non-food items, but when it came to the means (steak in particular), portions were somewhat small. Out of the meat options (teriyaki steak, bbq chicken, chicken sausage and fish), the only one I enjoyed was the steak, probably because it was so heavily marinated in the sauce that I couldn't taste the subpar quality. Drinks offered were your standard beer (Fiji Gold, Fiji Bitter, Corona), soda, and bottled water. Ice cream novelties were available for purchase.

Shade was scarce with about a dozen cabanas available on the beach, and as the adage goes, the early bird gets the worm. If you're only looking to spend a half day here, you'll be beaten by all the full-day arrivals who would have already claimed their territory. There are several beach mats and beach bags to lay on, a shaded kids area that my toddler showed no interest in, and several hammocks to lounge on which either needed to be replaced or rehung so you didn't lay at an uncomfortable awkward angle.

Non-motorized recreational equipment was included. At the point of check in, you are handed a voucher to exchange for snorkeling equipment at the little rental shack just adjacent to the bathrooms and main building. Glasses were somewhat scratched as a result of use in the rocky beaches, and the mouthpieces were so worn down from being bitten and chewed on by a number of previous users, I don't even want to think about. Kayaks were in good condition and were readily available. SUPs, however, did not have stabilizer fins making them challenging of novice paddle boarders. They also only had them in 8' lengths which again made it harder for novices, especially later in the day when the wind and tide would pick up. There was only one SUP paddle that I actually saw the entire day. Most of the folks on SUPs out on the water were using kayak paddles.

Snorkeling is good, but getting in and out of the water is a challenge and very difficult given the poor sand quality. Lots of rocks almost scraping your knees and belly until you get fairly far out from the shore. Plenty of brightly colored fish in the water, viewable even from wading in the shallows without putting your head underwater with a snorkel. Plenty of brain corals, anemone, butterfly tangs, parrot fish and triggers for viewing, including the state fish of Hawaii, the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a. I saw quite a few blue linka starfish, sea cucumbers, a stingray or two and tons of chromis and other damsel fish. I heard others saying they saw an octopus. An artificial jetty was constructed to absorb some of the currents during low tide, but as the tide gets higher over the jetty, you experience some significant push.

For return to your resort, you again are corralled onto these small wet tenders, where you're ferried to the main boat. On your return trip, South Sea island is the last to get picked up so you'll most likely be standing, or sitting on the floor. Thankfully it's a short trip back to Port Denarau.

There are so many day trips to choose from that it almost gets impossible to nail down one. We finally chose South Sea Islands for these reasons, closest to Denarau, only 1 hour round trip, family friendly, large boat for transfer, we don't fancy getting tossed about in a little tinnie and finally it has everything and more. All drinks, bottled water, soda, beer are complimentary and snorkelling and safety gear is provided. You only bring your towels.
We did the 1215 to 6pm half day trip, so we had a relaxed sleep in. The trip started with a nice buffet lunch, local performance. We snorkelled for an and then we were off in the submarine. Back for more snorkelling, a spot of kayaking and paddle boarding.kids played volleyball before we dried up and headed for the boat home.
It was perfect.

Full day island tour from The Warwick to the boat docks. We didn't realise there would be two stops on the boat so we accidentally got off at the first island (Mamanuca island resort) and the staff quickly informed us we had to hop back on the boat (was quite a laugh!)

Once we arrived at South Sea Island we were greeted by a lovely music piece and shown the itinerary of the day. There was a range of activities we were able to get involved in. Including a delicious buffet BBQ paired with a traditional performance, as well as unlimited drinks.

The snorkelling was fantastic, a huge variety of fish and corals. As was the glass bottom boat, it gives the underwater world a whole new perspective.

Well done to the staff at South Sea Island! Fantastic hospitality and so friendly.

A tiny island covered in coconut trees and surrounded by white coral sands. A 20 min boat ride gets you out to this little gem where you can snorkel amongst the coral and find Nemo and his mates. Great experience for the kids with small black tip reef sharks being readily seen amongst the wildlife. Plenty to do on the water with kayaks and boards etc and even a show during the bbq lunch provided by a traditional Fijian singing group. For the ultimate in water experience go see Jacob and the rest of the gang at the dive shop for an introduction scuba dive. Jacob is brilliant and looked after my 12 yr old, so much so that it’s still the highlight of the holiday.

We recently spent a day on the South Sea Island and loved it! Our day on the island was filled with many water activities and the scuba diving experience was absolutely amazing! The staff on the island were friendly and professional. This is certainly something we would do again
