I stayed at this hostel in Montevideo for 3 nights in a private room. The rooms are very basic and a bit prison-like which is in stark contrast to the building itself with the original colonial courtyard and architecture. The upside is that the social area in the courtyard is great with lots of sitting/hanging out room. The downside is...

They claim the have hotel standards. However, our room had no windows at all and felt like a prison. The door didn't lock properly. The place was incredibly loud. At the reception desk they kept loud music all the time, including by night. Music went on at least till 3am, and so did the general noise. They claim they have...

Everything was great including the breaky, only thing lacking was the atmosphere. Possibly due to the fact it appeared there were a lot of long stay/workers living there, I'm not too sure. Otherwise great hostel in the heart of Downtown Montevideo close to most attractions. Would definitely recommend!

Stayed here for a night at the end of July. Mostly everything was fine, very helpful staff who spoke Spanish to me to help me practise (even though their English was far better!) and a good breakfast. The only thing I'd say is the rooms aren't ideal - in mine (11 I think) I didn't have a proper locker as...

I was actually here during the World Cup June 28th to July 3rd ofl 2014. I'm starting to use my TripAdvisor acct, so I selected the date from last year. I arrived here very late at night and the reception was nice enough to let me stay and pay for my stay the next morning since I didn't have cash...

Even that Montevideo is a quite expesive city, you can find your way to make it quite in a cheap way. This hostel is located in a very strategic point, because it is a relatevely cheap neighbourhood and also close to ciudad vieja, Rambla, and many historical places around. Very recommendable!

The double rooms are nice and clean, with confortable beds and spotless private bathrooms. The staff is very cool and helpful. The kitchen is very well equipped. The whole place is very pleasant, with a lovely patio AND great cocktails at the bar!

Besides Montevideo being the oddest city in the world, this hostel has majorly bad vibes man. From the french prostitute hanging around every night giving stank eye to all the women, to the leaking pipes, bed bugs and no food or drink available, this hostels only saving grace is Ronaldo who once an a while will teach a salsa class....

El Viajero it's a really nice place to stay. Dorms are big with lockers for everyone. You always get clean sheets. Place is located downtown so if you like walking there is everything in a walking distance. If you need any help they are very helpful and they rent bicycles( best way to get to Montevideo sign). Only problem is...
