Ok so we were really looking forward to trying the restaurant here because of the reviews we read but unfortunately it was closed for renovations during our stay. Every morning the noise and smell were quite irritating. In the meantime the restaurant was moved to the bar area and it may have affected the quality because the meal we had at Hawa was very, very average and we even had to to send some dishes back because of the poor quality. My advice to go elsewhere in Urubamba or take a cab to Ollantaytambo to try some genuine local cuisine.

Having said that this is an amazing hotel. The building is beautiful and the quality of the furnishings outstanding. The swimming pool is incredible. Bedrooms are very spacious and decorated in an Inca style and everything is spotlessly clean with a keen attention to detail.

A great bonus is the onsite train station which takes you directly to Aguas Calientes for your trip to Machu Picchu.

The staff are exceptionally good and friendly and available for any requests you have. Also the on-site tour agency was handy for arranging transport around the Sacred Valley in a comfortable SUV (ask for Cristian, he’s a great driver).

While we were unhappy with the restaurant closure and the noise, smell and dust in the reception area every morning (some of the staff were wearing masks!) I still recommend this hotel, it’s a beautiful place and hopefully your stay will run a little more smoothly than ours did.

Under other circumstances I’d give it five stars but I’m knocking one off for reasons given above.

My family stayed at Tambo del Inka for 5 nights over Christmas 2019. The hotel has a very cool ski lodge type feel with an huge gas stone fireplace in the entry to the hotel. The hotel is very clean. Both the hotel restaurant and the bar have indoor and outdoor seating for dining. The breakfast is great with many options available. The staff is very friendly and many of them addressed me by name which was very nice. The town of Urabamba is on the main road just outside the hotel gate. You can walk to town which we did during the day or take Tuk Tuks for $1.00 to town for dinner at night. The restaurants in town are fantastic! We ate at Tres Keros, El Huacatay, Casa Colonial and Tierra. All of these restaurants are highly rated on Trip Advisor and were very good. We did not have any issues with anyone getting sick. We also took a cooking class at Casa Colonial which I highly recommend that the concierge Jossie can set up. Special shout out to Jossie who responded to all my emails prior to arriving at the hotel and was a complete pleasure to work with once at the hotel. Also a special thank you to Adrianna at Venturia tours in the hotel lobby for always responding to my emails and setting up our Electric Bike Tour, our Vistadome excursion to visit Mach Picchu and our Llama Trek. We loved all of the tours! The train to Macau Picchu is literally at 4 minute walk on the hotel grounds. It is by far the best way to visit MP. We did it in one day taking the 6:50am train and returned to the hotel at 6:30pm. I highly recommend doing it in one day. We had perfect weather and it was great! One of our rooms was on the first floor with a walk out to a patio which was really nice if you can secure a first floor room. The gym is nice and we had great massages in the spa which was very nice. Overall, my family loved Tambo del Inka and highly recommends staying there.

We traveled as a family of four to this hotel for 3 days during our stay in the Sacred Valley. The staff is world class, always someone outside the front door and in the main lobby greeting you. Manual, the bartender learned our names on the first day and addressed us by name every time after (we really were not there that much). They had amazing cultural activities that we participated in - weaving demonstration, pottery class and bread making class. The room is a good size, high ceilings and the toilet being in a separate room from the sink and shower, which allows for extra flexibility with 4 people sharing a room. The closet was dreamy - full walk in with dark wood, shelves, full length mirror, place to sit and a safe. We loved the indoor/outdoor pool. The views from our room and every place in the hotel are amazing. The architecture of the hotel is truly stunning with towering windows throughout to enjoy the view. The only negative would there concierge tour services - extremely overpriced. We did not use them, but got four different quotes from them and the prices were outrageous.

Amazing time at Tambo del Inka. The resort including the room was absoluteley beautiful. Amazing staff and service. They paid attention to every detail. The restaurant had an excellent breakfast buffet and dinners were delicious. Staff was kind and inviting. Jesus was our server several times through out our stay and did an excellent job at making us feel welcome and comfortable. Close proximity to many of the sites and staff helped us find easy transport and even had reasonably priced private cars. Will definitely return to Tambo del Inka when we return.

My wife and I were able to celebrate our 10 year anniversary here and enjoyed every minute! I was concerned that due to restrictions we might miss out on a few things we had been looking forward to but the staff did everything they could to make sure our stay was comfortable and very special!!

On arrival we were greeted by the manager Isaac who had done a brilliant job of being communicative by email before the stay, and was very welcoming and helpful during the stay.

On entering our room we were greeting by an anniversary gift from the kitchen (please excuse the poor photo), and with our first meal enjoyed complimentary bubbles!! The whole staff seemed to know it was a special occasion for us and did their best to make it feel wonderful.

Our room was beautiful with a large bath and shower, super comfy bed and the room opened out onto our own lawn area. The black our curtain worked a treat. Each day we enjoyed the “inside/outside” pool and spa circuit.

We ate in the restaurant each day and enjoyed spectacular service. The lunch and dinners were very good but we especially enjoyed the breakfasts by the river with the occasional hummingbird visitor.

While the sauna, gym and bar were not available due to restrictions, the staff did everything they could to compensate for this. We did not feel like we missed out on anything. We also noted how well the staff adhered to covid protocols, we felt very safe and comfortable the entire stay. It also seemed that all the staff had at least a basic level of English if that’s a requirement for you. They also endured our poor Spanish with a smile and regular encouragement!! Loved it!!

We stayed at Tambo del Inka over Christmas and for the most part we had a good stay. Our rooms were comfortable and the grounds are beautiful. We found the service in the bar area and restaurant to be stellar -- all of the servers went out of their way to help us feel at home. We are vegetarians and they were quite helpful in making sure we were able to eat well. Our oldest is also learning Spanish and all of the staff were super sweet in letting her practice with them.

Another positive is that unlike many hotels, the destination fee here actually gets you some fun activities! We very much enjoyed the pisco sour class, the craft beer class and our Secrets of Machu Picchu class. One night, our kids attended the storytelling class and loved it. The times on the classes may vary from what you are initially told though so double check with the concierge the evening of your class to make sure you know when and where it is.

On the downside, in the middle of our stay, we received a cancellation notice and rebooking notice of our reservation. Our stay (that we were on!) was rebooked somehow at a higher rate. Our keys stopped working and the whole thing was ... odd. Hotel staff were unable to help and it took an hour on the phone with Marriott to resolve the issue. Eventually all was worked out but definitely watch your Bonvoy account to check and see what is going on if something like that happens to you.

We intended to visit Machu Picchu so I decided to book a few nights at Tambo del Inka because it’s roughly half way between Cusco airport and MP. Since we have a 1.5-year-old daughter I was considering the potential for altitude sickness, the need to avoid a day trip which would be too long (from Cusco) and avoiding a long ride from Cusco airport to a hotel near MP on the same day of flying. With all those considerations Tambo del Inka seemed to be a good compromise.

Some of the newer Luxury Collection hotels are not always to my liking, but I found Tambo del Inka to be vintage legacy SPG Luxury Collection. The common areas were superb and fitting for a destination of this kind.

I have never been an efficient user of Marriott Suite Night Awards, I knew we would spend a lot of time in the hotel relaxing in the days before and after MP so I cared about a suite upgrade and I burned SNAs which would have expired soon anyway. The room was nice and worthy of the LC brand and since we were on the ground floor we had a small outdoor terrace as well.

The breakfast buffet was a standout. Food in Peru in general tends to be quite good quality, but the buffet at Tambo del Inka had several dishes perfect for people who want to focus on healthy eating which is suitable for such a mountainous resort. There was even live music in traditional Peruvian outfit in the lovely restaurant setting.

The travel agency which has staff at the hotel itself arranged our tour before we arrived at the hotel and the entire MP day trip went smoothly: taxi from the hotel to Ollantaytambo train station, train to MP station, lunch upon arrival, bus to MP, entry ticket, and private tour guide. Then everything else in reverse direction. It was not the most straightforward with the little one in tow especially climbing steps in high altitude but we made it and had a great memorable time; our daughter enjoyed the long day but once arrived back at the hotel in the evening she could not wait for the lights to go out before sleeping in the comfy bed!

Overall I found Tambo del Inka to be a solid hotel which I can recommend. The main advantage was the location relative to Machu Picchu and the easier acclimatization to high altitude, that said Urubamba is clearly not a destination as attractive as Cusco itself so I would consider Tambo del Inka a hotel to rest, visit MP, and then moving on to higher grounds.

Gorgeous hotel in gorgeous location. Our room overlooked the Urumbamba River and it was a delight to sleep with windows open to hear the river and the birdsong in morning. Beautiful grounds and gardens. Particularly worthy of note was the breakfast which was the most comprehensive and beautifully presented buffet I have ever seen - never before have I seen people take photos of the buffet. Was a calm and luxurious experience never to be forgotten.

The experience we had at the Tambo del Inka was magical.
In addition, to how pleasant our stay at the resort was, we felt very safe despite the fact that our visit occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic season because they really work in strict compliance with security protocols and have very high-quality standards.

The attention we received at the resort was extraordinary. It was very evident to note that the hotel brand really cares about training all its staff so that the experience of its guests is impeccable.

The hotel facilities in general are luxurious.
The rooms are majestically comfortable, and those with access to the terrace are the best to appreciate the sunrise.
Enjoying the pool was a unique experience since it has an impressive view of the natural landscape and it’s perfectly integrated with a large waterfall that is part of the design of the hotel's green areas. The hot tubs and saunas are also spectacular.
This resort is a true architectural jewel, it has a design that is completely respectful of the beautiful natural environment that surrounds it (it is a hotel that complies with LEED certification) and has a Novo Andean interior design, present in every corner.

The culinary experience was unmatched, and we were able to observe how careful they are in ensuring the highest sanitary standards. The exquisite dishes were carefully supervised by the renowned local chef Hermogenes, who also turned out to be a very charismatic and pleasant character.
2 of the waiters who took great care of us were Christian and Anthony.

Each dish had an impeccable presentation and an incomparable flavor, in addition to having a variety of Andean fusion dishes from the area.
Chef Hermogenes told us that most of the inputs they use in the preparation of their food came from the harvest of their own private orchard, and it was also very nice to visit that orchard that is an interesting part of the tour of the free areas of this Resort.
Finally, we want to highlight the attention of Fernando who gave us an extremely kind, friendly and welcoming reception and warm farewell.

This resort has within its facilities its own train station that reaches Machupicchu, and works with a tourism agency that also facilitates the stay for tourists who want to get the best out of their stay in Cusco.
Overall, our experience at the Tambo del Inka was second to none.

This hotel is beautiful. Period. It offers breathtaking views of the sacred valley, it has a great indoor/outdoor pool, spa, salon, gym, we stayed in a beautiful suite. I love that it’s design is site-oriented , and LEED certified. Tha staff was very kind, we did have a strange occcurence when housekeeping entered our room at 9:30 pm, but we got a local gift to compensate the misunderstanding. The hotel was going through renovations at the time so
We did not experience the restaurant where breakfast and such is served. The lobby is stunning, felt very luxurious.

If you pay at the hotel you will be charged in their currency. You can pay in advance in your local currency. I hope that helps. I personally paid in their local currency because it was cheaper than USD and my credit card does not change exchange fees. But a wonderful hotel.
