Simple, nice, comfortable, well located, very friendly staff, bed was really comfortable and breakfast good.

We stayed there for 2 nights: 5th and 6th of December.

I stayed at the Leon de Oro for one night when I first flew into Lima to join a tour group, which booked this hotel for me. I got in from a long, overnight flight and was unable to check in until 2 pm, which was a bit of a hassle. WiFi was strong as there’s a box on each floor, plugs were scarce in the room so I had to charge my electronics in the bathroom. The room was clean and basic, walls are thin so I could hear my neighbors chat. They had a lot of channels on the television, which was very nice. I didn’t get a chance to try the breakfast because i had to leave for the airport before it started. I ended up staying at a different hotel for the two other nights in Lima and preferred that hotel because it was more modern and centrally located.

I would consider this more of a 2 star hotel, not a 3 star hotel as they state. For the value, it totally worked for my budget! It was clean and very basic. Though many hotels in Peru have a slight mildew smell due to climate... this was no exception, but I was satisfied with my stay. Again, I was happy with the cost. They have free breakfast, and they're located a 10ish minute walk from all the action. They are in a safe area that I didn't mind walking around as a female traveler and they were always willing to chat with me about directions before I headed out for the day. I appreciated the dependable wifi. One suggestion for Leon de Oro: They say that had a shuttle to airport on the website. I contacted them by email and facebook several times prior to leaving the states and they didn't get back to me. When I contacted them by telephone, they made sure to get me the info about how to take Taxi Green from the airport. This suggestion worked well, but I wish it was easier to talk to them ahead of time or that they responded to emails. When hotel says they have a shuttle you can add to your stay, it would be nice if they made it easy to set this up ahead of time :) No big deal, I recommend Taxi green for the flat rate from the airport. However, it was confusing to find that info on my own prior to leaving. In this "email world" I always appreciate it when people communicate this way but I understand that it's not always the case.

We stayed for one night - and considered staying longer, but it just seemed to be worth the extra soles. It could have been a boutique, but is not, it could have been upscale but it is not, it just is a place to hang your hat.
