It's really a hole in the wall establishment, however the guides were very experienced in the tours. They will give you an HONEST experience for everyone including the children. I have so many stories I still tell to this day and it was in July of 2008 we were there. I really have nothing bad to say about this business....

I stayed in the Tucán Lodge in March of 2010. The place is rather hard to find online. I only saw very expensive luxury lodges and didn't want to spend a lot. A taxi in town recommended this place. So I went. For $50 a night I had a great time. I only stayed 2.5 days but it was well...

Willy who runs the Tucan Amazon Lodge knows the locale extensively and is a great cook. The grounds are well maintained and the lodge house is full of local charm. It is located about 1 hour out of Iquitos on the Amazon River.

The Tucan lodge is a great place to stay near Iquitos. It is not a high end luxury jungle lodge, but rather a more rustic peaceful retreat right on the Amazon River relatively close to Iquitos. It is rustic comfortable place with mosquito netting throughout and large cabins for sleeping and a large common dining space. The food was quite...

We traveled to the Tucan Amazon Lodge in the spring of 2008 with a group of 8 friends. The manager, Willy arranged everything for us via email and telephone while we were in the US. He met us at the plane, helped us land at a nice, inexpensive and quiet hotel (almost impossible to find in Iquitos with it's moto-taxis...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
It's located in an incomparable setting, surrounded by an exuberant vegetation, on the banks of the majestic river Amazon and it's 40 kilometres away from Iquitos, the capital city of this Amazonian region. The lodge has been built with typical materials from this area, always trying to preserve the native customs and traditions. Wood and palm leaves (crisnejas), are the basis for this building, which is completely risen up from the ground. It consists of a main house where one will find the reception, the dining room and the bar. It's completely prepared to look after the visitors, offering them all kind of comforts and services in order to make their stay be most nice and amusing . They will be delighted with international and regional food as well as exotic an suggestive drinks. In one of our gardens, you will find a pleasant site with hammocks and a viewpoint, an ideal place to relax end rest from this place one can observe the wonderful dawns which this forest landscape gives us as a pleasure while we can see the Amazon with its fast and constant course. The access to the rooms which are situated in five different cabins, there are two marital an eight double rooms, is through high grounded and covered passages, being large, with private bathroom and balconies and they afford a superb view overlooking the river and the jungle. Each house takes the name of a different native Amazonian population, they are decorated with traditional craftwork, being typical of the diverse ethnic groups. The lodge has completely channeled the drainage system and the water supply, though this last one is not fit for public consumption. It's just used in bathrooms, showers and for the washing service. The rest of the building consists of a warehouse, laundry and kitchen, and obviously the typical THUSPA, where our expert cook will prepare delicious meals for these with a discerning palate, meals cooked following the traditions of the settlers of this area. The guides who are native people and great experts on the region, will offer the passengers diverse and interesting trips, where they will be shown the exuberant landscape, the flora and fauna, medicinal plants, customs and beliefs of its inhabitants. The passenger will enjoy himself and he will go into the deepest secrets or this wonderful and bewitching world thanks to our guides' nice and dynamic explanations, where both legends and traditional stories become intermingle. All our staff are prepared to meet the most demanding requests and to offer the bets service and the fullest attention in order to make the visitors nicely remember their stay at our installations in this suggestive Amazonian spot. ... more   less

“Rooms are all the same. Ours was towards the back. YOU ARE BASICALLY CAMPING ~ when the generator goes out, if there is no moon it is pitch black. You will hear EVERYTHING outside and inside moving around.... you may not know which or what.”
