We were stranded in Cusco when Peru closed their borders but were lucky enough to get to stay at Supertramp before we got a repatriation flight to Ireland. The staff were amazing and managed to secure us a private room for the two weeks of our stay while also catering for us for every meal. The chef Oscar made a delicious mix of cuisines from all over South America with my favourite being the Ceviche. The owner, Sebastian, also managed to source a yoga instructor as part of our quarantine to take us through yoga classes every other day, which was fantastic for the groups mood and fitness.

The room had a private bathroom and was clean, with an extremely comfortable bed and was overall, terrific value.

The location of the hostel was absolutely ideal, especially for quarantine, as it had a huge outdoor space and had an incredible view of the city.

We were anxious at the start of quarantine with all of the uncertainty, but the incredible hostel, room and staff made this feel more like a holiday than a state-enforced lockdown.

Viva la Supertramp

The view is outstanding. The hotel is on a mountain the view on Cusco city is breathtaking.

The staff is awesome. Great people. They went beyond my expectations. Marcela and Mili Paola are angels. Mili was my translator. She took the time to speak to my tour guide in Spanish. Very generous of her time. Every morning they woke me up for my tour to make sure I don't miss my early morning transportation. They also made sure I had the best price for the taxi to the airport. Only 10 soles with them instead of 50 soles.

My advice: if you book with them contact them before your arrival so they can book your taxi from to airport. You'll save time, money and energy. Trust me!

It’s in a great location, the place has a great vibe, however our room (the green room) smelled like sewage from the bathroom 70% of the time and the breakfast starting at 8am makes little sense to me, since the unit in Machu Picchu it was 4:30 and we got breakfast. One terrible thing is that we can’t access the kitchen to get water, so we had to keep asking people from the hostel to get us water all the time. So that makes no sense to me, a hostel where you can’t get access to the kitchen by yourself. And to top it off if the breakfast starts at 8am, then we think there would be food at 8am, which did not happen in our last morning there because the cook didn’t even have a lighter for the stove, so we missed breakfast because we had to rush to the airport at 8:20. A good vibe, but these details are important (and basic) for a good stay.

Stayed at Supertramp at the start of February and would go back anytime! Fairly new hostel so the whole place was really clean, comfy beds with your own light, plug socket, locker and curtain for a bit of privacy. Good wifi, breakfast, and best shower in Peru! Really lovely dog and the cutest kitten were an added bonus (have unfortunately forgotten their names now)! But the staff were the best part- went out of their way to welcome us, they helped plan our Machu Picchu trip and even gave us loads of advice and recommendations for the rest of our South America trip- can't rate them highly enough! Thanks for a great stay :)

The hostel in Cusco is simply stunning, especially when you know that almost everything in this house is handcrafted! The decoration concept is really unique and everything is made with so much love and attention to detail. There are still some little construction works going on but the main areas (terrace, outdoor terrace with fireplace, kitchen, rooms etc.) are finished and the workers respect resting hours so it doesn't really affect your stay. The view over the city is really amazing, you can enjoy it chilling in the cozy bean bags they put on the large terrace ;) The quarter San Blas which is very close (approx. 5 minutes walking) is really nice, kind of the alternative / Hippie quarter of Cusco, there are a lot of restaurants (good vegetarian ones!), cafes, bars and stores and also healing ceters / yoga schools around. Just in the street below the hostel you find various small markets and restaurants as well - my favourite one is Jack's Cafe at the corner ;) Walking down you can make it in 10 minutes to the main square. Walking up takes a little longer but the view is really worth it! There's a small play yard and swimming pool (without water though ;)) right in front of the house, old Inca walls, an Inca bridge and a big rock that you can climb up to and enjoy the view. The atmosphere at the hostel is more like in a big family, it's not very formal but they really care about you and want you to have a great time and prepare personal breakfast in the morning, also for their staff and workers and it's usual that everyone eats together. Great place to stay - also for a longer period of time!

We had an amazing time at the Supertramp.
The double room was perfect, very clean and I had one of the best shower in Peru !
The staff is so nice, always smiling and asking if you need any help, how you feel etc.
Special thanks to Cynthia who helps us to book a tour.
Food is also great and cheap (thanks to the cookers!)
One night, some guests were a bit noisy, I just went out the room and the staff immediately reacted and asked the guests to go somewhere else so we could sleep.
Perfect reaction, they really care about the well-being of the travelers

I would love to come back!

Thank you so much

Candice and Alban

What I liked:
Large comfy beds with own light and multiple power outlets
Strong Wifi
Nice outside sitting area with great view
Relaxed atmosphere
Reliably hot water in a great shower
Always some breakfast extra besides the usual bread and jam

What I didn't like sooo much
A bit of a musty smell in the room
Black mold on the wall next to the door
Bed above my creaked very loudly, when someone up there moved I was afraid the thing would crash
The walk up the hill at night alone as a woman is a bit creepy. I walked up one night at 10:30 pm and was hit on by a guy who kept asking me questions even though I didn't answer and kept on walking. He left after a while and nothing happened, but as I was totally alone on the street it was a little scary.

What I experienced at SuperTramp was so much more than just another visit to the mystical city of Cusco. Life-long friendships were made, a change in perspective was gained, meals made from the heart, nights to laugh about for years to come, and yet other things you'd never dream of putton on an itinerary.
Now you may think I'm really blowing the trumpet here, I'm not, trust me, Ive travelled enough to be "seasoned" and have visitrd all spheres of life, but something else is gained here, something below the surface of everday travel that you may miss if you dont take the time to look deeper.

Do yourself a favor, visit this place.
