The rooms were very cold and the little hot plate on the wall did little to warm them up. The hot water was iffy. You may have some, or you may not, or it may take a good 10 minutes to warm up. There was no ventilation in the bathroom so unless we opened the window, the towels never fully dried and everything was constantly damp. Some members of our group had to switch rooms due to mold on the bathroom ceiling. Plus it's a good 30-minute walk to the Plaza de Armas, where all the good shops and restaurants are located. There are plenty of affordable places near the plaza that are better and have reliable hot water.

I've stayed at the Royal Inn Cusco three times while in Peru doing volunteer work. The owner and workers at the Inn have become like family. They are helpful and always had my best interest in mind when I stayed there. For the price, I believe it is a good deal.

I stayed at the Royal Inn in Cusco, Peru on a solo trip in June 2019. I booked two days on the front end of my trip, then left for five days on a trek to Machu Picchu and booked two more days on the back end when I returned to Cusco. It was the perfect low-key hope I needed for a solo trip. There were only two things that could have made it better. The first would be if it was a little closer to the town center. It was roughly a 30 minute walk. Also, it took a LONG time for hot water to come from the shower. The first night, I just thought the water wasn’t heating. The next time I tried I left it running for close to 10 minutes before it finally heated up. Other than that all was well and it was a great stay. They kept my bag checked for me during my trek and were very helpful if I had questions or needed anything. Definitely recommend as an affordable, quality stay.

We were unsure, at first, about staying away from the main plaza. This proved to be nice as it was not as congested and much quieter than being in a plaza hotel or hostel. A taxi to the plaza was 6 soles ($2 US) and each morning, the hotel staff greeted us, asked what we were up to that day and offered to call a taxi service for us. Even if they hadn't offered, taxis are everywhere...just make sure to hail one that is marked as a taxi and agree to your price before getting in. Hotel staff let us know it should be about 5-7 Soles and we pretty much always settled on 6 Soles.

Upon our arrival from the airport, we were offered Cocatea to sooth any altitude issues. Our room was very nice and clean. There are no kitchen related items, such as microwave or fridge. The rooms are simple with beds to sleep in, a small desk and a bathroom with shower.

We had a small issue with our toilet. We heeded the warning to not flush toilet paper (in Peru no where allows TP to be flushed), however, we think maybe the previous tenant had not followed these instructions as our toilet became clogged. We called the front desk and in a few short minutes a young man was in our room working to fix the clog. We had no issues the rest of the week. He got a nice tip. :)

Toward the last few days of our stay we were away overnight and not coming back to the hotel. We did not think to let them know, because: 1-no hotel in the US would care or notice, and 2- we were still paying for the night to keep our room. We gave the poor staff a scare! We came back the next day and the lady we'd seen most of the week says, "Oh, thank God you're all okay." She was very worried when we did not return before the end of her shift, and even called around 11:00PM to check with her coworkers to see if we'd come back after she went home. She prayed we were okay and just on a trek somewhere else (which we were). She was grateful when she came in the next day to learn that we'd returned and were safe.

The staff of Royal Inn cares very much about there tenants and wants to ensure you have a great visit and stay. They are a wealth of knowledge and happy to answer any questions you have. If I ever make it back to Cusco-100%-I will be staying at Royal Inn!

Thank you Royal Inn Staff!

I think the previous reviewer reviewed the wrong hostal because there is nothing across the street. There's another hostal with Royal in their name in central Cusco that I assume they meant to review. Anyway...this place is pretty nice for the price. Rooms are very clean and staff is super friendly and helpful BUT the location is pretty bad and we ended up moving to a place in central Cusco for the same price with a WAY better location. We walked down the street a bit to find a place to eat dinner and once it got dark we didn't really feel safe or comfortable walking around so we went straight back to our room. Central Cusco is much ore tourist friendly and felt a whole lot safer to walk around with just the two if us girls.

Stayed at the Royal Inn in Cusco, Peru in May 2014, as a Gate 1 tour group guest. It was good, clean, comfortable beds and great location. The main square, the cathedral, bank, shops and restaurants were across the street. I recommend this hotel.

Located near Cusco airport. Hotel was very clean, staff were very helpful, breakfast was good. Tourism was down due to unrest in Cusco so hotel was pretty quiet. Some restaurants located within a short walk.
