Hospedaje Pumacurco is close to Plaza de Armas, where I believe is the best place to be in Cusco. The owner is a great lady that try really hard to make you feel at home. She and her crew are always happy to help you. The rooms are ok, for the price you pay and location it's a nice experience.

Good part: The staffs over there are very nice and helpful. They let us check in early and store our luggage for free when we were on tour. Also offer boil water for us to drink. We wake up the lady at 3:30 in the morning for inca trail, she was really helpful. The taxi she got for us is cheaper than what I can get. Great service.
Bad part: Hot water for the shower was just make the water not so cold. The bed smelled so bad, the smell even woke me up in the morning. Bring you own sheets and towers. The towers they offered smelled too. Room is not clean.

Betty is a lovely lady who offers cheap and suitable accommodation within easy access to good restaurants, bars and the plaza de armas. The hostel is situated in a little pedestrian cul de sac of some sorts and splits San blas and Centro historico.

She let us keep our bags free of charge whilst do the 4 day inca trail.

Would highly recommend if you're on a budget and looking for a cheap, reliable place in good location

We are surprised about the good reviews for this place. The bed was good and the fact that we could check in early in the morning. But apart from that it was the biggest disappointment in our low budget trip of six weeks. The smell was terrible, both in the lobby and in the room. The showers didn't work (cold water only) and it was not clean in the room. Other guests also changed to other hostels. There are much better places to sleep for the same price!

I stayed two nights at this hostel in a double room with private shower/ toilet. However, the shower was not working and I had to use the common shower room on the ground floor. That's where the nightmare started. The shower room on the ground floor was in terrible state, not proper door lock, disgusting toilet and unclean floor. I had been to many places and staying in many hotels/ hostels, but this must be one of the worst shower room I have come to.

The room was OK, not particularly clean and wall was very dated with painting starts peeling off. The toilet was basically at a small corner inside the room, covered by shower screen. As my room was on the first floor, I felt a bit lacking privacy when people coming to the hostel can actually see what was going on in the room.

The good thing about this hostel is the land lady (owner) was very helpful and friendly, although she speaks limited English. She arranged a taxi to pick me up to the airport on the day of departure at 4am.

Location wise, it is 10 minutes walking distance from the main square and it was quite convenient to explore the city on foot. As it is far off the main road, it was quiet at night around the area, but perfectly safe to walk around. Perhaps given the cheap price (USD13 for two nights), I shouldn't complain too much, but I would appreciate the shower room , etc at least in a usable (and clean) state if you want to do renting business.

Twin room was fairly spacious, no tv isn't a problem with the WiFi being of good standard and, obviously, exploring if the city. The hostel is a little difficult to get to as taxi drivers don't seem to know where it is but that's not a problem, it costs around 50 soles to get to/from the airport. Really good location about 5 minutes from the old district where all the attractions are so it's easy to walk to, around 10 minutes to get to the office that organised Machu Picchu. The woman that runs the hostel is lovely and while she speaks limited English she makes herself understandable in any language.

On the plus side, The host was really friendly and helpful whenever we had questions.

But room was tiny, and the only separation from the toilet was a curtain right next to the bed, so the toilet was literally in the same small room. No warm water in the shower, and there was only water at a certain time during the day and night. The bed was not comfortable at all, and some of the blankets had not been washed between guests. Sheets had rips in them. Front door to hostel was locked at night, and we had to knock to be let in. But it was really cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for. If you are on a tight budget and only need the necessities, it's ok.

Pro: good location. Nice hot shower but only before 8pm. Simi clean. Cable tv. Good wifi. Price is good too. Cheapest dorm and private. Lady is really nice and she speaks basic english. Towel was provided
Con: not the best bed, place smell a bit. In need of incense. Not best place to social or party hostel.
Recommended. I enjoyed my stay

We were here for just one night after the Inca Trail and booked it because it was cheap.

Yes, it was basic and on close inspection, a little ropey but we got an ensuite twin room for s/35 which was less than half the price we paid for dorms with shared bathrooms elsewhere!

Betty, the hostess, was a character and helped us out with laundry, taxis, bag storage and breakfast. She was very helpful and declined to take a tip when we left as well.

Ultimately, for a cheap night in a comfortable bed, it's worth stating here. It is basic so do not go with high-hopes but if you can live without Wifi, or a social area, or hot showers after 10pm, this might be the place for you.
