We stayed here several nights at the beginning and the end of our visit to Peru. What wonderful staff are at El Mercado! The rooms were well maintained and we loved the alpaca blankets that were on the bed. The breakfast room included a buffet, juice cart, and cooked to order eggs or crepes. Hot beverages include coca tea, coffee, hot chocolate, teas. They refilled our water bottles every morning so we were set for our day. Bottled water is also provided in the rooms. In the late afternoon a staff member brings tiny baskets of chocolates or other sweet treats up to the room which is a welcoming touch. El Mercado has both a bar and a restaurant. They have a happy hour which includes 2 for 1 pisco sours (they make good ones). The bar sitting area looks out to the courtyard which has seating (with alpaca blankets) around a fire pit. Live music is provided every night. We ate at least one dinner here and found the food very good. The location is very good with just a short walk to restaurants, shops, and the squares.

This is what you call a good boutique hotel. Firstly the staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble, and always with a smile.
Set only about a ten minute walk from the main town square, the rooms are spacious and clean, the sitting area in the courtyard is lovey, with live music during what is effectively a happy two hours.
The breakfast is excellent as too is the food in the lovely restaurant, and very reasonably priced.
Thoroughly recommended in every way.

This was a fantastic hotel. WE stayed here twice (a total of 3 nights). The location is quite central, the hotel decor is quite nice. The service is excellent - they take good care of the guests. The rooms were nice, really comfy beds and quality bedding. But the most amazing thing was the shower One of the best showers I have been in in my whole life - hot and powerful Great after coming in from a day of hiking to refresh before going out on the town. They also have a relally nice restaurant and bar. A great choice in Cusco!

The El Mercado is a quaint hotel located in walking distance to the Cusco center. The staff is exceptional and the service is 5 star. The rooms are comfortable, decorated in a Peruvian style. However, every convenience that a traveler would expet is available. .

Excellent start and finish of our tour to Peru. The Mercado will be a go back to place and will use REI again too. Another great source for tours of Peru is www,andeanSolofperu.com. All of the guides in Peru are freelancers and one of our guides has started this company. One of the best guides we have had on many international and domestic tours.

This was a beautiful hotel that was recommended by our Peruvian guide. We stayed here before we had to return to the airport the next morning. We were weary from our all day excursion at Machu Picchu and this was a very nice place to relax.
The room was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was quite large.

We had five rooms. Everyone loved their rooms. Very nicely decorated in Peru’s style. The lobby was very nice with a side meeting area and a beautiful courtyard.
They had a great breakfast and a separate bar and restaurant. We enjoyed watching the Super bowl in the bar and they even stayed a little overtime so we could all see the End of the game. Loved everyone. Would stay there again.

The Hotel is beautiful and its location is awesome! It was at walking distance from Cusco’s main attractions, shops and the best restaurants in the city. This small boutique Hotel had a beautiful courtyard, where I personally enjoyed relaxing in the afternoon after a full day of excursions around the city. You have free books and travel guide that you can consult enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the courtyard. Decoration is unique, with an amazing design style. Rooms are awesome, cozy and very functional. Beds are very comfortable with soft sheets and fluffy pillows. Bathroom is lovely, with rain shower style and the design in general is outstanding. The breakfast buffet combines both American and European styles and it was very good. I personally enjoyed the freshly made juices (you can actually combine different fruits and fresh vegetables). The small restaurant served tapas and nouvelle cosine, all cooked with fresh local ingredients. Everything was absolutely delicious and tasty! Staff is welcoming, professional and kind; they really know how to deal with guests and make your experience unforgettable. They were very helpful with me and my friends, giving us the best tips to enjoy our trip!

The hotel is conveniently located about 6-7 minutes walking distance from Cusco's main square Plaza De Armas (Plaza Mayor).

The hotel itself is nicely decorated and well-looked after with a very beautiful lobby and seating area. We found the rooms to be VERY clean, spacious, with a comfortable bed and a nice big shower. Only downside of the shower is that the water did not go down the drain quickly which resulted in a small paddle in the shower.

The breakfast area was also really nice offering not too many stuff but just enough to start your day. You may order with no additional charge eggs (fried, omelette, boiled etc.) or any fresh juices which may be available that day.

Finally, the service of the hotel was excellent, from the doorman to the lobbyist who all spoke very good English and always greeted you with a smile.

Overall, a really pleasant experience during our 4-night stay in El Mercado and could not find a single fault.

Is there air conditioning in the rooms?
Answer from Tracey M
Calliope, Australia102 contributions26 helpful votes
I’m really not 100% sure but I am thinking it could have possibly been air conditioned as we didn’t feel hot at all. Usually when they have a room full of people (there were a large amount of people crammed onto the room) things would get quite hot if it’s not air conditioned.
