I stayed 3 nights at Casa Campesina in Cusco in a double room with private bathroom, and was very happy with the location (smack-dab in the middle of Cusco), cleanliness, the breakfast (included in the room price) and the price.
My room was on the higher floor, with a window toward the street, next to a classroom where Peruvian peasants gather to learn.
The room also had an electric heater, which turned out to be needed even in the summer because nights at that altitude are chilly.
It is true that the accommodation is on the modest side, nothing luxurious, but if the important factors are location, cleanliness, quiet and safety, La Casa Campesina wins the contest over any Cusco hostel.
La Casa Campesina provides support for the Peruvian peasant community (hence the name, which means "The Peasant" (female), the more reason to stay there rather than in a hostel.
The only reason I am not giving La Casa Campesina a "5-star" review is because the receptionist was a little on the grumpy side (or maybe just tired) and the morning of my departure I almost missed my flights because the exterior door was locked (for security reasons, I guess), and I couldn't wake up the sleepy receptionist.

Casa Campesina is located in a colonial building not far from the city centre. Nice patios and big rooms with nice wooden windows. Breakfast is ok but not abundant. The shop inside sells fair-trade artisanal clothing for reasonable prices. Definitly worth a visit.

Our first room was right on the street and was way too noisy when trying to sleep in the evening. The second room was ice cold because there was a huge gap between the ground and the door. The heater wasn't enough to warm the room. And every time after we came back from the city the heater was turned off and the room ice cold again.

On our second visit the receptionist didn't even show us the way to the room and was a bit rude.

The breakfast was chaotic as sometimes there was a buffet and sometimes not. The 2nd day we ate from the buffet they noticed and said its only for some guys of the university. The other times we went for the breakfast they didn't notice us and we had to go ask them to please serve us the breakfast.

I think there are definitely better places to stay for this price.

I stayed there with family but have also brought students there for a decade. Much more flavor than most of the standard Cuzco hotels and great location. The food is quite good and the staff very friendly. Don't miss the weaving shop and ask them for travel questions.

Great beds, hot shower always, friendly staff, good breakfast. The only thing is that the breakfast is not ready in time even if it is supposed to start at 6.30h, so you miss out on breakfast of you have a early trip. Ask for a lunchbox!

We chose this hotel due to its location. It is close to the centre of the old town and main square. Also close enough to the airport to be comfortable.
Bedroom was a nice size, ok bed, lumpy pillows and toilet a little smelly with a basic breakfast.
Hotel staff were very helpful.

We stayed in Hotel Casa Campesina / Hoteles CBC on July 17-23, 2018. We were a family of 5, all adults so we booked a Triple Room and a Double Room. We were on Room 203 & 204. The electric wiring is faulty in both the rooms, whenever we turned on the heater - the power turned off. It happened more than twice already but since the lights came back it was ok for us.
But when we return from a tiring day and all we wanted was a good night’s sleep and it happened again at night time, we told the Front Desk Staff, Areli, of the same situation again. She told us at first that after 10mins it will be fixed. Past 10mins no lights still. Called Areli again but she told that us that she can’t do anything because there is no maintenance and we just had to sleep in the room without lights! We freaked out and had to insist to transfer us to another room with power! Reluctantly, she transferred us 5 adults to 1 room only and as it was already late we agreed hoping the power will be back in the morning. Unfortunately, power was not restored in the morning. Thankfully though there’s another Front Desk, Karina, who inmediately transferred us to another hotel, Hotel Limacpampa. I have to commend Karina for handling our situation in prompt manner.

Very well located hotel, the rooms are very large. We were there in winter. The rooms are cold but have a heater. The hotel has two types of rooms: some are for tourists , and some are for local community people who need a cheap place to stay while they need to stay in the city of Cusco. So with your room rate you are helping the hotel provide low priced accommodation for locals. The mixture makes the place very interesting

The lady who checked us in was quite rude, but everyone else was super friendly.

The room was comfortable, the shower was the best we had in Peru, and the breakfast was truly great.

Great location near the historic center of Cusco.
