The couple that runs this hotel are just the sweetest people ever! I arrived late on a Sunday and couldn't find anywhere to eat. So the lady called a friend and arranged to have dinner delivered to my room! It was delicious and inexpensive too. The room is very clean and comfortable, and I think I had the best view available :-) WiFi is good, coca tea is available 24 hours. It's a good 15 minute walk to downtown but they'll help you find your way there, and it's quite a lovely walk too. They were also able to arrange a taxi to pick me up from the airport and take me straight to the hotel for only $8! A steal considering how far the hotel is from the airport and that I don't speak Spanish so I didn't have to bother with a taxi trying to figure out where I was going.

It is a little noisy, especially when people go up and down the stairs. But just bring earplugs and you should be set!

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a couple of nights and it was great. The view of Cusco was amazing and staff was friendly! We were glad we chose this hotel instead of the one closer to Plaza de Armas. From here we were about 10 minutes away walking. Since we were on a hill the walk down was easy but on the way back there are about 200 steps to climb. It is a little work (with the altitude and all) but it was worth it. The hotel does not offer food besides a delicous breakfast (included) but there are great places to eat nearby including a small grocery store and small market. The outside area looks a little worn down but the hotel is wonderful from the inside. Felt safe behind the big doors in the front. The hotel room was large, clean, included t.v and the bathroom plumbing was great. I would recommed this hotel to travelers.

I enjoyed this hotel immensely. It is a bed and breakfast type, very small and cozy. The stuff is uber friendly, they took very good care of me. I had a room with a great view, breakfast was nice, prepared with love and care. On a day I had to live the hotel before breakfast started, they gave me a sandwich to take with me. I see that some people left less that great reviews because the hotel is on the hill. Well, it is on the hill. That's the way it is. If you are not physically fit or don't want to take a taxi, please don't book with them. I personally enjoyed going up the steps from the center every day. I considered it to be my workout for the day. I loved the place!

The hotel looks nice in the lobby but our room was cold, despite the heater given to us; the bed was uncomfortably hard; the hotel was noisy at night. There is no computer but there is a wireless connection. Housekeeping failed to give us more than one tiny bar of soap and did not give us enough towels on two occasions. Hangers in the closet disappeared on day 3. Shower leaked. Tour operators would not drive to the hotel as it is on a steep hill, instead letting us off 3 blocks away. Good view from the dining room but no view from the bedrooms. Would not stay there again.

For the price in Cusco, the Hotel de San Mirador is wonderful. Sizable clean rooms with small mounted TVs, great views of the city, and a simple breakfast (toast, fresh squeezed juice, eggs, coffee with or without milk, coca tea or other flavors of your choice). Breakfast is served on the top floor, so you get a great view. We arrived back one afternoon just after a rainstorm, and were treated to a stunning rainbox across the city sky!

Like others, my two criticisms of the hotel are (1) the cold rooms and (2) the very hard mattresses. Because I was traveling during the rainy season, and it was rather cold at night, I was torn between sleeping on top of the blanket for some cushion, and wrapping it around me for the warmth. I slept in my long-sleeved t-shirt and a cashmere sweater, socks and flannel pajama bottoms, and still woke up cold once or twice during the night.

The Mirador is family run, and the whole family was attentive and helpful. They gave us paracetamol and sorichi pills for my brother, who was experiencing headaches from the altitude, and regularly asked how he was doing. They also offered to call a doctor if we wanted. The husband is a trekking guide, and so expert in altitude sickness, which was reassuring.

The wife used to be a travel agent, and arranged an informative daytrip to the Sacred Valley (sort of an introduction, since I had only the one day). They also arranged safe and clean airport transport and for a 6am drive to the bus station for a Machu Picchu trip.

The 10 minute walk is on a steep hill, so if you're knees or lungs aren't up to the task, best to take a taxi (I think this was about 5-6 soles from the plaza).

I also recommend

I, along with 4 friends, stayed here for 2 nights as a stopover before heading to Machu Picchu. Cusco as a city was a revelation! We had our pick up waiting for us at the airport (courtesy the hotel). The hotel is 7 minutes walk from the main city center. The views from the terrace are fantastic, just the right place to start your day with coffee and breakfast. The staff is ever so smiling and helpful. The owners stay on the ground floor and the top 3 floors are converted to be let out. There's a regular supply of tea and coca leaves for those wanting a cup to fight the high altitude feelings.

Language (English) is not a problem as the proprietor is a well traveled architect (infact she's designed the place herself). She's more than happy to lend you advise on what to do in the city and where to go.

Rooms are very comfortable and are true value for money. Overall a fantastic stay!!

Absolutely loved this place. We stayed for 4 nights prior to our trek to Machu Picchu and booked in for an additional 2 nights when we returned. The staff had no issues taking our bags and minding them for the few days we were gone, so if you're concerned about that you have nothing to worry about.

The staff were extremely warm and helpful. Only 1 of the members has good English, but we really enjoyed practicing our Spanish with them. We had a very important international phonecall that had to be taken while staying there and the hotel did not hesitate in offering their phone to let us deal with it. They simply gave their number to us, and transferred the call straight to our room. I really appreciated this. Breakfast was basic but fine, beautiful view from the roof! Our room had a small wall-mounted heater which done just enough to keep the room at an okay temperature. Definitely not a powerful heater, but enough to take the cold out of the room. It's definitely a tough walk to the hotel, but a taxi should only cost 5-6 soles from the main area if you're tired. We done the walk plenty of times late in the evening and didn't feel unsafe. Lots of stray dogs about but that's pretty normal for these cities.

The windows in the room are pretty thin so noise travel is a small issue. Maybe consider earplugs if you're a light sleeper and you get a room at the front of the hotel. Also the WiFi; when it worked it was great, but there were times when it was gone for hours on end. We didn't really mind this too much, plenty of things to do in Cusco rather than sit on your phone, but probably worth mentioning in case it's necessary for someone.

Stayed 3 nights in total at Mirador, two nights before visiting Machu Picchu and one night after. The two nights we were away we left majority of our luggage at the hotel for storage, including two locked suitcases, one of them containing one pair of Bose headphones worth 400AUD. When we got back from Machu Picchu it was very late, approx 11pm, and unfortunately we also arrived back sick from food poisoning so we just grabbed our suitcases and went straight to bed that evening. Next morning we were still not feeling well but had a plane to catch back to Lima so we had to re-pack and when we opened the bags we noticed the headphones were gone. The hotel staff only spoke Spanish so we had to get my friend who stayed in another hotel to come up and help us communicate our problem. The hotel staff was very nice and said they hadn't seen the headphones and called the cleaner to check. Still being sick and in a hurry to catch a plane, we were doubting ourselves and half thought that maybe they show up when we arrive back in Lima and can have a proper look so we left the hotel without reporting anything to the police. However once back in Lima we could confirm that the headphones had been lost at the hotel. I don't like giving bad reviews especially when the staff was very nice in every other way, and if it wasn't for the headphones gone missing I would be giving Mirador 4 stars but the fact is that our headphones went missing from this hotel and no matter if it was the staff, cleaners or some stranger taking them it's not good.

Loved the view from the breakfast area, its a 20 min walk from the main square .

I left my phone at the reception and was so happy that they kept it for me, very honest people.

Very sweet people cook basic breakfast for you in the morning.

Staying here is a little bit like staying with loving relatives. The staff took such exceptional care of us the entire time. We had issues with our flights getting in, but they worked with us around our stay there and in Machu Pichu, and our flight out was very early in the morning, but they still gave us a lift to the airport, even at 3:30 AM. In addition, at one point I was feeling under the weather, and the staff worked to make me feel better.

There is not a large variety of food for breakfast, but it is very well prepared. Eggs, fresh bread, butter, and jam with fresh juice and coffee/tea every morning is a great way to start, not to mention the wonderful view from the breakfast area.

The room was a nice size, the furniture in good condition, and it was very clean.

The only negatives that I have are:
The pillows could have been more comfortable
It is a bit of a walk from the Plaza de Armas (about 10 minutes walking downhill) and a 4-5 solae cab back up the hill.

However, the positives, especially the staff and the price, greatly outweigh the negatives. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone staying in Cuzco.
