We stayed at Samay for 4 nights in late Aug 2013.
Firstly the plus points:
It's really close to the main square, about a 15 minutes up, there is a really good restaurant 1 min. from the hotel
The textile market is right across the street which makes shopping easy
The rooms were nice and big, there was hot water (it does take a few minutes to get hot so be patient) and there was water pressure. The room had a tv with cable.
The place was really clean and the staff were helpful.

The minus -
I ordered Cocao tea (which is served free in the lobby) and was billed $9 for it, which i thought was crazy!
We ordered room service one night since we were too tired to go out and get dinner. Biggest mistake ever. The pasta was undercooked and the steak wasn't done right. Also, we are almost positive that we got sick from the dinner that night. The next day we both weren't feeling well.
The breakfast was not good. The toast was usually cold and hard, they didn't have orange juice and food in general wasn't all that appitizing.

Our group of 9 stayed here for four nights during our recent Peru trip. We enjoyed the hotel, the front desk and bell staff were really helpful and very friendly. We were met with a hot cup of Coca tea and our room keys.

We had booked the hotel as a three star and it was that and no more, the included breakfast was very good and there was plenty of variety.

The rooms near the street as expected were noisy as daylight approached but that's to be expected in a busy city like Cusco.

Me and my girlfriends stayed here for 4 nights total, 2 days before and after inca trail, and it's a good basic hotel, it came with our package with travel agent. We had triple bed rooms, the front desk were not vey knowledgeable about restaurants, but a good stay to rest

We had a really nice stay in the Samay hotel to visit Cusco. Well located at a 10 min walk from the historical center and 15 min walk from the bus station. Very comfortable, quiet and perfectly clean room, and a nice breakfast buffet in the morning 👍 Many thanks to the staff !

Hotel Samay was probably the nicest hotel we stayed in while in Peru. The lobby and dining area are immaculate, beautifully decorated with wall murals of Inkas. Service is good (but they forgot to give us a wake-up call one morning), and the breakfast buffet is excellent. We stayed at the one on Avenida del Sol, about a 15-20 minute walk (mildly uphill) to the Plaza de Armas. Because it is on a main street, you are breathing in exhaust and fighting the crowds as you walk to the main plaza. We did not hear much of the street traffic at night but that may have been because we were exhausted. (It is on a busy street.) But on the upside, you do pass by the Qorikancha along the way as well as other beautiful colonial buildings like the Justice Building. The only annoying thing about the hotel was the shower. Water pressure was inconsistent and the water temperature was difficult to control, ranging from lukewarm to burning hot for no apparent reason. Other than that, it was a pleasant stay.

We stayed at this hotel as part of our tour to Peru and Equador. Although all of accomodation on the tour was considered 3 star this was the most basic. It was a 10 minute uphill walk to the major Plaza and to the better restaurants in the area. The rooms and ensuite were clean and quite large and the breakfast was adequate. Overall an ok stay.

Our stay at Samay was very pleasant. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful. We were immediately greeted with some coca tea and we drank plenty of it! The room was nice enough and perfect for the simplistic travelers who are not looking for luxury or are high maintenance. My only complaint was that the bed was awfully hard! But we filled our days with a lot of site seeing and tours, so I could've slept anywhere! It is in walking distance (10-15 minutes) of Plaza Armada where we ate, shopped, and toured. The continental breakfast was very good and I loved the variety of fruits, vegetables, and breads they had available. Samay Hotel was included in our tour package, and we were very pleased overall with the hotel.

A few blocks from the main square and the many churches of Cusco makes this hotel ideally located. The rooms are functional, bathroom is small a bit dark but clean, the mattress and pillows are uncomfortable but kept me warm for my two nights stay. The staff was very attentive and hospitable. Buffet breakfast starts at 5 am with variety of juices, breads and hot meals. The hotel looks old and needs some remodeling.

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a tour package...definitely NOT recommended. The hotel is about 15-20 minute walking distance from Cusco's main plaza, right on Avenida El Sol. There's not much nearby at night to do except a couple of restaurants packed with tourists. I'd recommend spending a little more money to stay closer to downtown.

We stayed at two different rooms because we checked out in between to stay one night at Aguas Calientes. In both rooms (as well as both of our friends' rooms), the curtains were off the tracks so would not shut completely. The scariest part is the shower. The water temperature swings from boiling hot to frigid cold without you touching any of the knobs! I almost fell in the bathroom because I was the first to shower and was not expecting to get burnt on my skin while shampooing! The same happened to our friends in different rooms.

There is complimentary breakfast, which was a plus, albeit the selection was poor. The staff was friendly but be careful if you are traveling with children or elderly (unless they have ninja like reflex and can protect themselves in a wet bathtub with bipolar shower temperature)~!

We stayed at the Hotel Samay for two nights as part of a Peru package through GotMyFare.com (my name for them is: GotMyMoney.com). The local provider was Rainbow Tours (in Cuzco and Lima). This was our 3rd hotel as part of the tour that started in Lima, then Puno (Lake Titicaca), both were good but the Samay was the worst. The location of this hotel requires a taxi ride to or from the central square. The front desk staff was extremely rude and makes things up (like the elevator will be fixed on Monday). They took our passports and didn't offer to give them back until we were in the (very bad) room with no working heat (gas valves were turned off - this was mid winter). When we went to the front desk to get our passports they handed us all the passports from our group (this is not very comforting) and we had to select ours out of the pile.

The second night I was awakened in the middle of the night (4-6am) by a key being inserted into a door (which I thought was an adjoining room), the door opening then closing. We we got up the next morning I found the door unlocked, which I'm absolutely positive was locked when I went to bed. Once I mentioned this to my wife that was it for her. We called the local Rainbow tours number and reported the incident. Our local tour guide suggested we call the Lima office and purposely gave us an incorrect and old phone number, which we later found out after looking up the Lima office on the internet.
The Lima office said they would find a different hotel. They begrudgingly assisted us in finding a wonderful hotel in the city center (similar rates) but would not compensate us for the 3 remaining nights we had paid for at the Samay.

The moral here is if your Peru tour mentions "Rainbow" run, don't walk from this company. You can find similarly priced much nicer hotels located in the central city. If you use GotMyFare.com, be sure to checkout all hotels listed in your itinerary. I would never use GotMyFare again.
