A nice and very relaxing hostel in the center of Cuenca. A big garden were you can sit quietly and read, good breakfast, and lovely rooms. Everyone was kind and trying to help with all our needs. We forgot our coats when we left and they suggested to send them to Guayaquil by bus the next day, and so it... More

Macondo is beautiful. It is listed as a hostel, but is more like a boutique hotel. The room is really nice and also the bathroom. The location is the best and the service is really good. The decoration and the silence in the place is charming, we really want to go back to Macondo!

We stayed three nights here. It has a nice vibe. It is spotless, the rooms were small but perfectly fine, great breakfast. The staff at the desk were especially helpful. When I made a booking mistake in their favour, they sorted everything out to my advantage. Quiet street, nice and central. I definitely recommend this as an option for people... More

My wife and I stayed here for three nights while waiting to get into our apartment. The staff headed up by Jennie and Jessi were superb, so accommodating. The breakfast was outstanding! I enjoyed the courtyard, lovely and in bloom. The beware part of this review is that the rooms are quite basic, not much more than a bed, a... More

We stayed five nights in a very clean and comfortable en suite double room which overlooked the garden. Included breakfast was excellent and patrons had access to the kitchen. It is a 10 minute walk from the historic Centro and the main cathedral and museums or galleries. All staff was great and the front desk staff had good english and... More

I recently stayed at Hostal Macondo ( from 5/19-6/1/16). The purpose of my trip was to scout out Cuenca as a potential city for retirement. From the moment I arrived through the entirety of my stay Macondo delivered an excellent hotel/hostal experience. This place is truly a quiet sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of Cuenca just outside the front... More

For the price, I thought this place was really lovely. There is an older (100+ year old) building which has all the character anyone could want. There are also new rooms out back that over look a really nice courtyard. For the price, I thought this place was excellent. It is quiet and the WiFi worked. The breakfast was good... More

We have only been here a couple of nights but we really love the place. Rooms are very basic, but the setting is very warm. Most of the rooms are around the lovely garden. Breakfast can be improved with variety. The staff is super friendly and accommodating.

We stayed for almost two weeks in this well located, quiet, friendly, clean and calm Hostal. The staff were always helpful and pleasant, with useful advice and a kitchen that could also be used to cook ones own meals. The garden was most welcoming and we were able to have Spanish lessons without intruding on others.

We stayed here for 8 days and it was great base for exploring city and surrounding areas. The Hostal has rooms around a central garden area. We stayed in a suite with small kitchen area. Good sized room, very clean. Breakfast was lovely, fruit or yoghurt and muesli with fresh breads. Staff very friendly.
