A delightful hidden niche, charming hosts fabulous food at the Restaurant attached - what a super breakfact place. There were two small suites at the back when we were there we had them both. It seems to have expanded since we were there (August 2011) but not at the expense of charm or service I see. It was a haven...

Excellent place owned by a friendly, helpful couple. Terra cotta construction with a cozy indoor court yard. They are very knowledgeable of area for restaurant, and sight-seeing activities in the day and night time. They can call someone for trips outside the city. The rooms have small refrigerator, microwave, own bathroom with hot water and small kitchen area. On the...

Located in the middle of the historic section, this lodging is a retreat from the noises of this busy city. We stayed in the top room (on second floor) which is located at the back of the facility. To access you pass through a lovely courtyard. Other than the odd siren at night (which was rare) it was totally quiet...

Far from swanky but comfortable, clean, plenty of hot water and attentive host. Wonderful food on premises at the attached Bananas Restaurant. There are two small suites. Upper has a full sized bed and the lower has two singles. If you want the full bed, be sure to make that clear. We did and upon arrival our reservation was not...

Our family of four is enjoying our second great stay at Kookaburra. We are super happy here. The rooms are clean, modern and tastefully decorated with everything you need, but without clutter. The sheets are nice quality and the beds are comfy. There is even a small kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, French press and coffee and tea. They even...

Kookaburra is such a nice place to stay. The owners and staff are very helpful, the room was very clean and stocked with milk, water, coffee, silverware and some mugs and dishes for us to use. Chris took us to our room, explained everything to us, even how to use the shower to get maximum hot water (bathroom was great...

We stayed three nights at the Kookaburra and couldn't have been happier. Chris and Jenny are excellent hosts, but make your reservations early, they only have 2 rooms! We had the queen suite upstairs, decorated in soothing colors, with gentle ambiant lighting. In the mini kitchenette, they thoughtfully provided coffee, teas, fresh milk for coffee, bottled water (although Cuenca's water...

We had three wonderful nights here in September 2011 and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The apartments were perfect and Chris and Jenny are fantastic hosts! Breakfasts are fantastic, as is all the food in the cafe so it was hard to not have lunch there too! Beds are comfortable and bathrooms are spacious, clean and reliable. The apartment area is...

There simply can't be a better place to stay in Cuenca than the Kookaburra. Our accommodation was a simple, delightful suite opening to a charming courtyard shared only with scrappy hummingbirds. The Cafe is a buzzing ex-pat hub open four days a week. Although it was closed for all but two hours of our stay, I relished reading in the...

“The one bedroom apartment is lovely if you are staying a while. Great kitchen facility and living room. But the back suites are quieter if you plan to stay only a couple of days. If you have a family or group, you can take over the entire facility and have access to all kinds of amenities.”
