Travel agent spoke glowingly about this hotel. Actually, it probably was once great. It is over decorated. Exceptionally large rooms, large windows covered by heavy layers of curtain. Lots of heavy old styled furniture. Lovely bed and bedding. Large bathroom, poor shower in gigantic bathtub. I didn't get the view I had asked my agent for, nor a balcony nor...

This historic boutique hotel on the old central plaza has preserved its unique features. Service was spectacular for my 6-day stay, as I experienced super-friendly attention to detail. The front desk helped me coordinate a tour of a museum, as well as satisfy any of my requests. All rooms are updated suites. I chose a room overlooking the central plaza...

It would be hard to beat the location. The old historic part of Quito is best explored on foot and the Hotel Plaza Grande and the beautiful plaza it sits on is nearly right in the middle of all the sights. The building itself is a beautiful, classic example of Old Quito during it's richest period. It has been well...

Perfect for the first few days on our honeymoon! For the unique character of the Plaza, I much preferred staying here to options in the "new" city. We could see the incredible surrounding buildings from our bed. Our large suite looked down onto the hustle of the plaza. There are many people in the square from 9 am to 7...

We had been thinking of splurging on Casa Gangotena, and are so glad we went with the Plaza Grande instead! The hotel is in a charming old colonial building. The rooms were large and well-furnished. We chose the side opposite the plaza while our friends enjoyed a plaza view but were woken at 5:30 a.m. one morning by a religious...

I chose our hotel based on TripAdvisor reviews and first impressions were very favourable (until we tried to sleep that night...). The building is a colonial mansion and the hotel sits on the edge of the central Plaza de la Independencia across from the Archbishop's palace, so it's a great place to start sightseeing. The hotel looks very luxurious even...

This property is located on the Plaza Grande just across the street from the Presidential Palace. The main attractions in the historical center are just a few blocks away. The plaza outside the hotel is very busy with vendors and visitors starting about 9 am each day. But by 6 pm, most of the people are gone and the area...

We stayed here for 4 nights prior to going to the Galapagos. This is a charming boutique hotel and the the staff went above and beyond in making sure all of our needs were met. First, we needed to purchase several items from a pharmacy and market. Instead of just giving us directions, one of the staff members escorted us...

I had already visited the old town of Quito when I returned to this hotel. It is sited on what I would describe as the main square in Quito and it was a haven for me. I had just spent 4 days in the Rain Forest of Ecuador and I was so pleased to return to a hotel of this...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hotel Plaza Grande rises above Quito's central square, known as the Plaza de la Independencia. It was one of the first hotels ever constructed in the capital, and has been extensively renovated and remodeled to become the finest boutique hotel in the city. It is the ideal place from which to explore the wonders of this timeless city. Quito was declared a UNESCO "World Heritage Site" in 1978, thanks to its historic center, which is the largest and best preserved in Latin America. The colonial center of the Franciscan city of Quito is a treasure trove of baroque art and architecture, including buildings, churches, monasteries and narrow streets that reflect Ecuador's unique blend of indigenous and Spanish cultures. ... more   less
