You go to Tandayapa for hummingbirds - to view or photograph them. For that it is perfect! The people are lovely and the service is great. We had a problem with water temp (too low), noise coming from dining area (too loud with large group and sound carries) and the food was just ok. That being said, we would return...

My sister and I took my parents to this lodge for two nights and we were all underwhelmed. Yes the patio with hummingbird feeders was quite impressive with many different species flying around but the seating was uncomfortable and the view of the gorgeous hillside and cloudforest was completely blocked. The patio that had comfortable seating where you could actually...

We were on a hummingbird photography workshop led by Matt Shetzer ( that was wonderful and deserves a review all on its own), and first on our stop and our stay was Tandayapa Bird Lodge. This was our first trip to Ecuador and therefore our first experience of a birding lodge in this beautiful country. It did not disappoint. It...

My first experience with a birding lodge in Ecuador and I was definitely not disappointed. This is a lovely spot with a nice big deck for watching the hummingbirds visit the feeders and perch on the low branches. Ricardo was very knowledgeable and helpful. Food was great, rooms comfortable and spotless.

We had a wonderful welcome from Nancy who made us feel right at home. Simple yet very tasty food, and decent sized, clean rooms with huge windows looking out onto the forest. Nancy and the volunteers (Kirsty and Sophie) couldn't do enough to make our stay and experience fabulous. Sophie and Kirsty had excellent bird knowledge which I appreciated as...

This lodge was our first while in Ecuador and did not disappoint. Wow! Amazing hummingbirds.... Feeding frenzy for sure. I could have sat on the back deck for hours watching the show but we had other locations to visit in the area which is another reason to stay at Tandayapa. There are so many birding opportunities within short driving distances....

Was there in November 2014 for the Ecuador Photo Journey and stayed here several nights and used as our base for the first half of journey. This place is way out from any major city so don't expect 4 star accommodations, however, the place is clean and the food prepared there on site is outstanding especially the soup. To see...

This lodge in the cloud forest near Mindo comprises simple clean and welcoming accommodation. Nancy and her staff provide an informal cheerful and courteous service. The food is no frills but very tasty, promptly served and ample. Breakfasts are enhanced by views of the toucans, tanagers and other exotics visiting the fruit bar just outside the window and the outside...

Quoted price on website does not include tax. Overpriced. Viewed many new birds. As amateur birders we preferred Hostal El Jardin del Descanso in Mindo. While we were there a photography tour took over the deck and feeders with all their equipment. Manager Nancy and volunteer Sophie were hospitable and friendly. Gluten and lactose intolerance readily accommodated. Showers were cold.
