VIBE As with a number of hostels in the historical part of Quito, Secret Garden is set in a huge labrynthical colonial building. Set over five floors, you could seriously get lost, with each day bringing the discovery of a new corridor or section. Is it a party hostel? No. Instead, it's a really social and friendly atmosphere amongst guests...

Beautiful hostel, friendly staff, great views of Quito & reasonable prices! Definitely the hostel you want to stay in! They also have a taxi service especially for the hostel which makes traveling much easier when relying on Ecuadorian transportation.

This hostel has the makings of a gem- nice rooftop terrace, good food being offered, taxi service and local info, helpful travel agency downstairs. However there's an off putting money grabbing vibe here. A basic, grim double room with shared bathroom is $33.60 a night here. (A far nicer room in the pricey Galápagos Islands with private bathroom wouldn't even...

I spent 2 months in South America, mainly in Chile/Argentina and Ecuador. Torres del Paine, FitzRoy peak and Galapagos all were spectacular but if you are coming to South America then a stop at The Secret Gardens is a must! Viewed an awesome lightening storm over Quito from the deck; with great food, cold beer and warm hospitality make The...

My husband and I stayed here for a total of 4 nights, in a triple room (there were no double rooms available when we checked in, so we stayed in a triple for the price of a double). Some reviews complain that it's a party hostel, but I didn't find it too loud there. The floorboards are a bit squeaky,...

Review of the restaurant only: We read great reviews on this place (for food only - we didn't stay at the hostel). The view is amazing but the food is limited to one option only. You might want to call ahead to see if you are interested in eating. Otherwise it's not worth climbing the five flights of stairs to...

A real mixture of people in the hostel, everyone was friendly, staff and visitors. Dinner is served to everyone around a great big dining table on the terrace which is great to get to know everyone! Can recommend the red wine and the free coffee!

We had high hopes for the Secret Garden but overall we left disappointed. First off, the price. We paid $30 + tax for a perfectly OK, but old and musty room. That is not great value - we've had much better for $20-25 all in. Some rooms look far better, with huge windows overlooking the courtyard, instead ours (C4) just...

After staying in this hostel's sister hostel in Cotopaxi, we were slightly disappointed. We were given a private room on the bottom floor. We were woken up as early as 7:30 am, three mornings in a row, from the noise of a construction project happening outside our door. We were quite disappointed with the lack of professionalism when it came...

Great hostel with amazing view of the city. Staff are great and good atmosphere. Quite a varied mix of ages at the hostel. Beds are very comfy but the floorboards in my room were insanely loud so bring some earplugs if staying in a dorm. Found the bar prices a little expensive and the cocktail list a little limited. With...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Secret Garden Quito is a friendly Australian/Ecuadorian/French family run hostel conveniently located in a quiet, authentic cobble-stone street in central Quito. Our 'barrio', or neighbourhood, is one of the few remaining Colonial districts and even our building is protected by a United Nations World Heritage listing. With a big improvement in security in the Old Town in recent years, plus 24 hour police patrols, our neighbourhood now enjoys a level of safety and security equal to (or often better than!!) most international capital cities. But there's more!!Our beautifully restored colonial building features a rooftop terrace/restaurant/bar with breathtaking views of the historical Old Town. Feel free to browse our hostal book exchange, chat with our friendly Ecuadorian and foreign staff, check your email (free use of computer and free Wifi), or just relax listening to any of our wide selection of music. ... more   less
