If one wants to step back in time one could stay at La Casona De La Ronda, which is housed in a 18th century colonial style building in the Historic Center of Quito on one of its most picturesque streets. A beautifully restored interior with a patio welcomes you as you enter, this is where breakfast is served daily, a lounge area is also on the first floor, which has sofas which make it a nice place to sit have some coffee, relax a bit, there is also an small outdoor patio with a bar to enjoy. There is also a mirador (viewpoint) and lounge area on the top floor, which we briefly spent some time in. The mirador offers nice views of La Virgen del panecillo and the local area.

We were welcomed by the hotel security guard and reception, both of whom helped us to our room with our luggage. Just as a note, the hotel does not have an elevator, this is no issue for us but keep in mind if you have any mobility issues. All employees of the hotel we dealt with during our stay were courteous and friendly. Those who work at reception do speak English. They were extremely helpful in getting us a taxi to the airport when we checked out, especially since it was early in the morning.

Our room was a "patio room" meaning it faces the aforementioned backyard patio. The room was quiet, large, and clean. It has a large king-sized bed, which was comfortable to sleep in, all linens, towels and the such were clean and also comfortable , the bed was made daily (as is done so unless requested otherwise) and the towels changed frequently.

The area is very lively Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, with many local restaurants and bars nearby. On other days of the week the area is very quiet with hardly anyone around. All of Quito's Cento Historico is within easy walking distance although there is a steep hill on Calle Guayaquil to reach Plaza Santo Domingo, overall the location is great for exploring the historic center.

We opted for the included breakfast, it consisted of some fresh cut fruits, croissants and eggs if so desired, we were so full by eating the fruit and croissants that we never tried the eggs, that being said the fruits and croissants were always tasty and fresh.

We truly really enjoyed our stay at La Casona De La Ronda, it is a unique hotel full of charm, history and pleasant staff.

We are honored that you have described all the aspects of your stay and the services that you received at the hotel, looks like we did a good job meeting you expectations. This a hotel with a bit of charm and character. Our room also has the widest bed I have ever slept in - positioned at either end it was possible for our hands not to touch both at full armspan!

The breakfast spread was not as luxurious as in some hotels we stayed in but the egg station served up some comparable quality fare. In addition, the croque monsieur we had as a late afternoon snack / alternative to dinner was particularly good!

The hotel was very accommodating about printing a 15 page document for me free of charge and also supplying some oxygen to our room when my girlfriend eventually realised she was suffering with the altitude! They also happily put the Champions League semi final on their big (giant) tv with English commentary.

Security was very visible and provided a sort of personal protection detail for my girlfriend whenever she stepped outside to vape. This, alongside the remote lock that sounds like a prison gate being opened(!) does, however, have the double edged effect of making one feel a little hyper sensitive about safety!

The only slight issue with the hotel is that because it is built around a central courtyard it is noisy when guests arrive/depart during the night. And because of flight times to/from the Galapagos and Quito this is quite a common occurrence.

This hotel is differentiated from slightly more corporate / super-luxury alternatives but will still satisfy people used to that standard of accommodation. The service was excellent and they were very accommodating.

No gym etc. We found a good little laundrette within a five minute walk that washed our entire accumulation of dirty clothes for something like five dollars….

DearAFerb_84, Thank you for your detailed review. I am sorry to hear that the internal noise disturbed you during your stay. Sometimes we do have groups or families that arrive in late or leave early for their flights and as much as we try to inform ( and it should be courtesy to other guests) to keep quiet between 10pm and 7 am, sometimes it happens and there is little we can do. As you mentioned the shape of the building and the rooms beeing around a central courtyard can create a bit of noise. We will reinforce, reminding the tour leaders to keep control of their groups. Anyway it is not always but when it happens I know it can be disturbing. We also do provide earplugs as an ammenity inside the rooms. Also we do have an in-house laundry service that is delivered next day or in case you leave with us before 10am your laundry at reception, we deliver it same day. Thank you again for your feedback, it helps us to keep improving our service and experience to our guests. Best regards, Aaron B.

Set in the heart of the colonial district of Quito the 18th century property is well placed for visiting the city of Quito. Check in was very prompt and we were allocated Rm 6 on the first floor. Note there are no lifts in the property. The room had a huge comfortable bed, TV, safe, and filtered water was provided in a jug in the room. There was also a patio area with a small table and chairs reached from the room. The one missing item was tea and coffee making facility in the room. The bathroom was well appointed with a good-sized shower and toiletries provided. There was also a plumbed in water filter just outside our room. Breakfast was taken in a room to the front of the hotel on the ground floor, breakfast consisted of fruit, croissants, toast, with eggs however you would like them. Dinner was also served in this room with a good choice on offer. Also on the ground floor was a comfortable seating area and the very pleasant and helpful staff were always available to serve a welcome drink.

This hotel is stunning it’s situated in the oldest street in Quito and is a converted colonial house.
On arrival we were upgraded to a suite which was just superb. Fully equipped kitchen with complimentary filter coffee , separate dining and lounge area , fully functional bathroom and shower with complimentary toiletries.
On our return we had a room on the first floor with interesting views over the local area the furniture is all carved wood and the shower to die for.
Breakfast is served downstairs and is plentiful with omelettes and fried eggs on offer. We had dinner in the restaurant which was of a good standard and reasonably priced.
Just a word of advice the suites are about 100 metres away from the hotel on a steep incline so be aware if you have mobility issues

A green oasis in a grand old house, with excellent service by staff. Excellent for overnight stay between flights from Europe to Quito and the Galápagos Islands. The cool restaurant with huge antique mirrors adorning the wall is great for a quiet dinner. I recommend the Locro soup and Ecuadorian lamb stew, and the Chocolate fondue with fresh fruits is delicious. I loved the spacious bedroom with huge comfortable bed and lots of pillows. It is a hotel offering calm and quality with easy access to artisan craft shops in Calle Ronda.

This is an excellent hotel, beautiful on the inside, great and helpful staff. For us it was even better because we speak little Spanish and the staff had very good English.
The room was well appointed, the bed very comfy and the bathroom perfect. Not that we are dirty, but the room was always spotless when we came back to it.
The restaurant serves very good and reasonably priced food, the empanadas are worth a try, as is the lamb stew.
The location of the hotel is perfect for wandering the historic centre only 10 minutes or so to Independence and not much further to the Basilica.
Finally, the hotel offers an airport pickup, which is very useful, the driver was there waiting for us and took us straight to the hotel.

On a recent trip to Quito, our first, my wife and I chose the Casona de la Ronda based on its location and the Trip Advisor reviews. Price was also a consideration.

We were very pleased with our two day stay. First of all once you are buzzed in through the wooden door it's like being in a different world. There are three levels that surround an open area with plenty of greenery, dark wood and Latin American decor including a great Tree of Life mural.

Our room was quite spacious with a king bed that had great linens and pillows. Like many of these hotels that are former haciendas or Spanish homes there are rooms that do not have outdoor windows like ours but this was offset by a lovely glass hummingbird panel.

The bathroom had a double sink and good shower. The only negative is a request not to put toilet paper in the toilet, but in the bin beside it. This is quite common in some third world countries, but I was surprised to see it here.

The staff at this hotel are there to please. One example was that we arrived well after the restaurant was supposed to be closed. No problem. They stayed open just for us.
The breakfast buffet is quite good with lots of varieties of fruit, with some like granadillas that you won't find in many places.

We had dinner here twice and the traditional potato and cheese soup and lamb stew were standouts. Quite pleased to find a really nice Ecuadorian chardonnay at a very good price.

La Ronda is a great area during the day, but once the sun sets it is not, but so is much of Quito these days. Take taxis rather than walk after dark.

Overall at $519.00 all in for a two day stay with breakfast and two dinners I thought we got good value.

Dear maritimeexplorer, Thank you for your kind and detailed review. Yes, as you mention, stepping into La Casona de la Ronda is going to an Oasis of peace and relaxing atmosphere. Also the house is typical spanish colonial style architecture , 300 year old restored building., therefore some of the pipes and sewage system in this area is old and that is why we kindly ask not to drop toilet paper just to avoid clogs. Our housekkeping comes daily to change bins and clean bathrooms. As for the restaurant we do have Ecuadorian dishes as well as international cuisine, but we always try to encourage our guest to try the local specialties such as "locro de papa" (potato soup ) or our "seco de chivo" (lamb stew) , same with the wines we do have chilean, argentinian but we always recommend the ecuadorian wines since this is something new you probably wont find back at your home countries. Thank you again and we appreciate your comments to our staff, it keeps us on our toes keeping up the good service you deserve when you come visit us. Best regards, Aaron B.

We had two short stays here over Christmas in December 2023. We stayed as a family of two adults and a child. When our car pulled up outside, staff from the hotel were staight out to help with our bags. Inside we found the charming old world feel of the hotel. We knew there were no lifts so we needed to walk up the stairs, which was fine, and the staff carried our bags to our room. We stayed in different rooms on our stays, and each had huge beds, USB ports, and a good, spacious bathroom. There was an internal window to the quirkyly decorated centre of the hotel.

Breakfast was good with varied fruits, pastries, yoghurts and other options, with friendly help at the omlette bar. We also ate dinner in the restuarant on Christmas Day, when a special menu was served. There were a few areas to sit and relax in the hotel including one where coffee was available on a "help yourself" basis in the afternoon and evening. The centre of the hotel is both old and charming.

There was a security guard on the premises all the time, and we never felt any security issue. When we were heading to a restuarant in the evening, we were offered the security guard as an escort, but that wasn't needed. The hotel allowed us to store luggage with them for a few days between our stays there.

Everyone was helpful and friendly, and although there were varied levels of English spoken - all better than my Spanish - there was always someone around to translate when needed. When we had an early departure for a flight, we were supplied with a take away breakfast. I got to rececption before our driver, and the person on reception went to find me a coffee whilst I waited.

As soon as we started to take our bags out of the room, the security guard heard, and was straight up to carry our bags down.

The reception team were also happy to arrange taxis as required.

The hotel is in a vibrant, busy part of the old town, and at the weekends, the street outside is busy with shops and restaurants along it. It looks quiet during the day but comes to life in the evening.

We were made to feel exceptionally welcome in the hotel, and on our return visit were greeted like old friends.

I would very happily stay here again.

This hotel, which is located on the oldest street in Quito, also has a character that takes us back to the 18th century but with very modern comfort. Exotic woodwork, large common area and dining room with thick stone walls. Spacious room and very comfortable gigantic bed, modern bathroom, all very clean. Shuttered windows and well-preserved antique cabinets give that touch which reminds us that we are in a heritage building. Even though we are right in the historic center, we were not disturbed in our sleep. Everything goes quiet around 10 p.m. Buffet breakfast with the possibility of having eggs cooked to our liking. Fresh juice, unlimited fruit, cereals, yogurt and other foods complete the choice. We also had pizza one evening and it was good. At nightfall, it is better to take a taxi or return to the hotel. The area is not completely safe in the evening. On the other hand, during the day, we were never inconvenienced and it was very pleasant to be able to walk around the historic center. Reception of employees is very acceptable.
