We were staying elsewhere in Santiago but our accommodation had a water supply problem so at short notice we needed to find an alternative and so booked into the Trivento apartments for one night. This subsequently became 4 nights as our original accommodation was unable to guarantee a water supply. We had a 36 hour period moving backwards and forwards between both before moving all our belongings to Trivento. The apartment was spacious and reasonably laid out. The TV was in the bedroom rather than the living area which we didn’t like. The water (!) ‘screamed’ loudly when you flushed the toilet or turned the hand basin tap off. The bed linen and covers were bizarre, embroidered pillows slips and old fashioned covers. Kitchen area had very basic crockery and utensils. However, there was a large fridge freezer, effective air con and a reasonably comfortable sofa. Our biggest problem was access to the actual tower (tower C) that the apartment was in. The hotel style keycard opened the apartment door - but had to be reprogrammed every day which meant going to the hotel reception each time. The keycard did not operate the system to enter the tower itself so you had to rely on a resident accessing the building when you wanted to enter. Very frustrating and the reason we cannot rate this higher than average. No servicing of the apartment unless you paid an extra charge.

We would give this hotel negative stars if possible. It was one of the worst travel experiences we’ve ever had. We booked our preferred room in this hotel months in advance based on very positive highly rated reviews. Our plan was to stay a few nights and enjoy the start of our month long South American holiday. But between the time of our booking and our arrival in Santiago, Trivento had been bought and taken over by Park Plaza Hotels and Apartments, a much larger group. 1 – we had arranged a pick-up from Santiago airport through Park Plaza Hotels a week before our arrival, but the pick-up never showed. We had to make our own way to Santiago city after searching in vain for our pick-up for an hour or two after our 14 hour direct flight to Santiago! A terrible start to our holiday!! (When we arrived at reception, they said they were unable to arrange a car. But we had it confirmed via email before our departure from Australia; terrible service) 2 – upon arrival at Trivento Apartments, we were told it was fully booked out despite booking our preferred Trivento room months in advance and receiving confirmation of such. Just when we thought things were getting bad, they were actually getting worse! 3 – we were instead offered a smaller hotel room in the old Park Plaza hotel adjacent to Trivento. Or, if we wanted a larger hotel room as an alternative, we were offered a larger room/apartment in another Park Plaza facility further out of town. Location was important to us, so we went for the adjacent Park Plaza hotel. 4 – the room was small and old. We were told that it was better value to our ‘failed’ Trivento booking, as breakfast was also included in this small hotel room. But it was a very simple delivered breakfast into our fridge during the evening, for us to eat in the morning. The overall value of the room and breakfast was nowhere near what we booked and were paying for. We felt ‘gazumped’ and totally ripped-off. It seemed like the new owners/managers were taking advantage of Trivento’s good reputation to downgrade us into their smaller vacant hotel rooms. 5 - a little internet searching after check-in confirmed our suspicions. We weren't getting what we paid for, and the value of this old small hotel room (including the 'bonus' breakfast) was nowhere near what we were paying for our failed Trivento booking. So we were lied to by hotel reception staff upon check-in, when they said the 'upgrade' to the hotel room is actually better value than the Trivento apartment room. 6 – we weren’t getting what we booked and paid for, so we checked out the very next morning instead of staying two more nights as originally booked and planned. We moved to a nearby hotel where we got value for money, a nice room, and friendly, helpful staff. All in all, this was a terrible start to our South American holiday. Things could only get better, and thankfully they did. We ended up really enjoying the holiday.

The apartment layout was nice and provided the space we needed. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen had potential had it been adequately stocked with utensils and basics. The location was very good to get acquainted with Santiago. We were very disappointed that the kitchen was not adequately stocked with utensils (It did not have a complete set for two and there were no sharp knives), plates and cleaning items, such as a dishrag and dishcloth. We were given a small sponge and soap - that was it! Also, we found the floors dusty, especially in the bathroom floor which resulted in dirt once wet. We also did not have a full towel set for each person. When doing our usually check under the bed before leaving, we found someone else's sock. After we brought the shortages to the staff's attention, we were given a roll of paper towels for the kitchen and a new set of towels, still short a towel. There also seem to be different level of house keeping, depending on what you rate included.

We spent 8 wonderful nights in a spacious 2 room apartment; King bed was very comfortable and ensuite bathroom was spacious and modern. Kitchen was well equipped for making light meals. Sofa in the living room doubled as a bed if needed. Housekeeping staff were wonderful, and Victor, our host, was very helpful, showing us around the neighbourhood, responding quickly to a few requests, and coming around frequently to make sure we were well taken care of. There's a "Lider" (mini-Walmart) supermarket adjacent to the building, and dry cleaners and pharmacy across the street, currency exchange shops nearby, as well as cafes, pastry shops all a few steps away. All this made it a very convenient location, and within easy walking distance to most of Santiago's important sights. We highly recommend it! And thank Victor for his professionalism and kindness.

We stayed here twice during our South America trip and both times Victor (the manager) was so welcoming and professional. From the initial email he sent us with all the information we needed in it to greeting us at the front door when we arrived. He gave us a map and information on the area and some advice on what to do during out stay. Our first room had a lovely view of the Cerro Santa Lucia. Both apartments had a separate lounge area, kitchen area, bathroom and bedroom. The apartment is in a security block so we felt very safe. Would stay here again if ever visiting Santiago again. Even though this is a apartment the room was made up each night.
