The Mandarin Oriental, Santiago stands out for its sophisticated ambiance and inviting atmosphere, highlighted by an elegant pool and tranquil courtyard. Guests have lauded the hotel for its prime location near a variety of cafes, restaurants, and attractions, although it's slightly away from the city center. The rooms earn praise for their comfort and views, yet some visitors have noted issues with air conditioning and cleanliness. While the service can be warm and professional, there are occasional reports of slow responses. Reviewers also suggest the hotel may not provide the best value, pointing to high costs and some underwhelming amenities.

I recently stayed at the Mandarin Oriental Santiago and was thoroughly impressed with their service. A special mention goes to the thoughtful gesture of a birthday card from the Director of Rooms. It was such a personal touch that showcased their excellent training and commitment to making guests feel welcomed.

The room was fantastic and made even more special by a complimentary upgrade, which added to the overall luxury of the experience.

However, I must point out a couple of cleanliness issues. The dusting in the room, especially in the bathroom area on the shelf, seemed to be neglected. Additionally, upon entering the room, we found a pair of socks next to the curtains, which were overlooked during the initial cleaning as well as during the turndown service. These are small but important details that need attention.

Despite these minor setbacks, my stay was beautiful and memorable. The property is stunning, and I would highly recommend it to others. With a little more focus on cleanliness, this hotel could truly be flawless!

The Mandarin Oriental Santiago is the best hotel I have stayed in in terms of the quality of the accommodation. The hotel grounds are imposing, and the lobby has beautiful displays. I opted for an executive room over a deluxe room with fantastic furnishings and a great view of the Andes. The room is shaped like a parmesan wedge, getting broader as one approaches the windows, and the layout is superb, with a comfy seating space separate from the bedroom area. The television was huge, with a wide array of international channels. It is supported on a device that enables you to remove it from the wall's recess to watch tv from the bed; this was not apparent from the hotel photos. This accommodation is the finest hotel room I have stayed in, and I have stayed in a lot.

I arrived early, having travelled for almost a day. I got to the hotel around 10 am and dropped my suitcase off, knowing I had five to six hours to kill before check-in. I knew I could not check in until after 3 pm, but I would have appreciated it if the staff were to check to see if a vacant room was available so I could have recuperated immediately. Instead, I spent six hours in the Parque Arauco shopping centre until check-in.

The hotel is in an enviable location between Las Condes and Vitacura, directly behind the Parque Arauco, a giant shopping centre. Walking to the city centre near Plaza de Armas and Bellas Artes takes about an hour, but you can quickly get an Uber, and it is less than ten minutes.

I dined at Senso on a Saturday evening, and the dishes were surprisingly flavourful and authentic; my only qualm about the food was the size. I ordered crab ravioli for the main dish, which only had five pieces; it could have been better value for money. The pastelería is great with exceptional products, although somewhat pricey.

The hotel gym is small but has a few bits of the latest technogym kit and is adequate for a basic workout and cardio. On my first night, whilst trying to locate the gym on the M1 floor, I found a member of staff sitting on the floor with her back against the wall near the lifts and her legs spread out on the floor, playing on her phone. While I don't mind staff taking a break from their duties, I do not expect to find cleaners lounging about with their legs sprawling over the floor.

Too many men in black suits wander around the lobby and the hotel entrance; it makes you feel like you are in a high-security facility. The hotel would provide a more relaxed ambience without so many security guards.

We stayed in a standard room, which had a useful desk area and two chairs overlooking large picture windows aimed to the southeast, with snowcapped mountains in the distance when the smog cleared in the late afternoon. The room is very well appointed, very comfortable, and even though we were close to the elevator, we heard no noise from the hallway. There is minimal exterior noise despite proximity of the highway. The bed is firm and comfortable. The shower excellent (no bathtub). Note that the shower and sink area does not have a door, so if one person showers while the other is asleep, the noise of the shower is significant. There is, however, a door for the toilet area off the rest of the bathroom. Robes and slippers are in the room. Chocolates were delivered thanks to our being "Friends of M.O.," and signing up for that in advance will generally get you an earlier checkin, wonderful if you've just arrived on a red-eye from the States. The pool is attractive and surrounded by deck lounges, some out in the sun and some under sun-resistant umbrellas. Depending on pricing, consider a Club level room as the breakfast and afternoon tea on the 16th floor are wonderful. The hotel is conveniently located near a large shopping mall, and groceries can be purchased nearby if you're staying a while. Rooms have courtesy soft drinks and water. We had no trouble plugging in US electronics without needing a converter.

We stayed 2 nights in a terrace room. The reception staff was very kind to get our room ready early as we arrived after 24 hours of travel at 7:30 am. The concierge was also lovely and very helpful; recommended a really great restaurant which was exactly what we wanted. The room itself is beautifully appointed and the bathroom was wonderful. Nice shower and bathtub with excellent lighting. The bed was very comfortable with nice pillows

Having said this, the sofa was so filthy I would have needed to change rooms had I not had the terrace. The patio furniture was nice but really beat up. The sliding glass door was so dirty it was barely transparent from years of condensation trapped between the panes. And who knows what the other myriad of stains dripping down it were.

There were a lot of little things that don’t happen in a five star hotel and there were no nice little touches that always happen.

If not for the terrace I would stay elsewhere next time.

The hotel does not deserve the 5 stars it holds for two reasons:

1- the rooms are old, this hotel is more than 35 years old was the Hyatt of which I was already a client, and the rooms except some small modification are the same....

2. The manager does not have enough PR for a hotel according to this level of quality as price for the following reason: after staying more than 20 times since it is mandarin oriental today given that I had a flight in the early morning I asked them if they could leave me a shower before going to the airport, which very kindly told me that it was not possible since the hotel is complete... While I was checking out I tried to book a room to see if it was true... And there were many room types available... So they actually recognized that the manager didn't want to leave me a shower....

A 5-star hotel where you pay what you pay has to rise to these situations ...

The MO Santiago is an excellent hotel. It is well located in Las Condes, on the step of one of the city's most enjoyable parks and close to two big malls and in an area where it is quite easy to walk.

I wasn't too keen on my first room but staff kindly moved me to another one which was great. They were very nice as was the excellent lead concierge.

The rooms are large and well decorated, with comfortable beds, large windows, nespresso coffee machine, and a small complimentary minibar (still and sparkling water, coke). My only complaint really is that the bathrooms only have showers, not bathtubs, and after very long flights to come, it would have been really, really nice to be able to take a nice hot bath!

The swimming pool is beautiful but really cold too so not really an alternative.

Breakfast is excellent as is room service.

An excellent choice for a stay in Santiago.

Dear C7982LoMichaelb, Thank you very much for taking the time to answer our survey and leaving such good comments. We are very pleased that you had a pleasant stay at our hotel, enjoying the rooms, the location and the warmth of our staff. Making sure our guests have an excellent stay motivates us to keep working to ensure we deliver memorable Mandarin Oriental experiences! We understand what you are saying about the bathtub, we regret that we could not satisfy your expectations 100% this time, but we would like to mention that there are Suites that have a bathtub, so next time, you can find an option in them. Regarding the temperature of the pool, we understand that for some people it would be more pleasant to have a few more degrees, but unfortunately, it is not possible to do so given the size, depth and characteristics of the pool. The complete satisfaction of our customers is a challenge for which we work every day, so we remain attentive to any other concerns you may have, we will be happy to assist you. I was back in MO after 5 months of the last trip where there was no hot water in my room. This time, straight away, the duvet was dirty/stained and the shampoo container inside the box was broken and did not allow the liquid to be used. Terrible for anyone who had had previous problems. It turns out that unlike last time, the hotel was committed to arranging everything quickly and efficiently. On the second night my room was perfect and they even took care to leave a small chocolate dessert with a bottle of wine. Minimum to expect from this quality of hotel. As I mentioned: the hotel building is very old and needs adjustments. The air conditioning is still noisy - I turned it off to sleep. However, some good amenities help, such as the Nespresso in the room, good quality amenities in the bathroom as well as an iron and ironing board, slippers and a very comfortable space to work. I will go again soon and let the comments know, as all indications are the quality is rising.

I booked a stay at the Mandarin Oriental from October 7th to 9th in a Deluxe King room, arranging the reservation directly via email with Keybel Lambertus. The rate offered was USD 379 + VAT without breakfast, but they mentioned that breakfasts would be included at no extra charge through the Fan of MO program.

However, upon checking in, I encountered serious issues. I was charged nearly double the quoted amount, and additional fees were applied for services I did not request. The check-in process itself was incredibly slow, taking about 60 minutes, making it a truly frustrating experience.

There was a clear lack of pricing transparency, and I felt like the hotel was focused more on extracting as much money as possible from my stay rather than providing a quality experience. Overall, it was a disappointing and stressful experience, and I would not recommend this hotel given how things turned out.

Booked through Amex, requested early check in as our flight arrived at 8am. Room not available until almost 2pm. Had to constantly check at the front desk, instead of having someone call/email/find us in the lobby area to let us know our room was ready. Once the room was ready, the reception told us our luggage would be delivered to the room. We waited about an hour before I decided to get it myself from the concierge, no attempt was made to deliver it. At around 4pm that day housekeeping came to check our minibar as there was concern it was refilled since the last party stayed, however nothing was missing and it was fully stocked. She apologized for interrupting and left. I then received an email 2 days later saying that I needed to pay for items taken from the minibar when we had never used anything. Extremely poor service. The room and views were quite nice however.

Helpful and professional concierge staff - very friendly team throughout the hotel.

We experienced a number of issues during our stay which was booked through Amex FHR.

The rooms have been updated and the furnishings are quite nice. The bathrooms are large but have intermittent water pressure and a significant delay (3 to 5 minutes) for hot water. The toiletries are mixed brands, but we’re generally decent with large bottles of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel affixed to the shower wall.

The suite was spacious (booked a premier suite) which was on the first floor. There are no upgraded amenities in the suites - no mini bar, coffee maker or sound system in the living/dining room areas. The suites are loud if you have someone above you so be aware - the hotel simply offered their apology after two sleepless nights due to the noise. The bed linens are crisp and the down pillows comfortable. The bed was hard as a rock and was very difficult to sleep on. The pool view from the suite is overlooks astroturf and a large construction hole that is blocked by fencing.

The public spaces at this property are under renovation (I will post photos), but Amex does not mention this on their site. The floor in the lobby and outdoor space is chipped and cracked and the fabric on the furniture is filthy. All restaurant spaces are unrenovated and are run down, dirty and outdated. There was even a broken window near one of the restaurants.

The FHR breakfast benefit is a buffet on par with Hyatt Place. The space is overcrowded and poorly ventilated.

The hotel is on a busy corner and can be easily spotted by the temporary construction walls and fabric MO sign. The grounds are manicured but the landscaping is straight out of a 1980’s apartment complex. Though the staff is amazing, the general manager does not seem to put an effort or emphasis on the atmosphere and maintenance of the property. There were propane tanks and empty planters throughout the property.

This property falls short at nearly every level except for the friendly staff. Had the MO or Amex FHR noted that the property was under construction I would have chosen the Ritz or the W which are in a better area and priced similarly.

The management acknowledged the hotels shortcomings and they were kind enough to buy us dinner which we apprehensively accepted due to the poor quality of the breakfast service. This hardly made up for the uncomfortable and disappointing stay. This property should not be branded a MO until the renovations are completed. I would look elsewhere if staying in Santiago.

I am very sorry to hear that your stay at Mandarin Oriental, Santiago did not live up to your expectations. While I am very happy to know that the service you received from our colleagues in the different areas of the hotel was a highlight, the experience you perceived does not reflect the service that we strive to deliver every day to all our customers, and therefore I offer my sincere apologies. In our experience (oct 2023) yes for both, but early check in will depend on room availability. They'll definitely store your luggage for you. I recommend signing up for their free membership program (fans of mo), as there's a few perks (early check in when possible was one of them) and they're pretty focused on recognizing your membership.

Do NOT stay here in February. I am staying at the hotel now and the construction noise is EXCRUCIATING. The noise is mind numbing, our room is vibrating from the jackhammering (which they say will continue all day until 7pm) , the atrium is full of dust, and the air smells like a strong paint odor. This hotel should not be open for business during such disruptive construction. Any guest who stays here for the next several months needs to know that they’re staying on a very active, noisy, and chemical-smelling construction site.
