Santi and Heidi are GREAT members on staff at El Refugio. They are full of ideas of things to do and see ranging from exploring Villarrica volcano ($70US) to simple hikes at Ojos ($4US) which includes round trip colectivo bus and park entrance fee. I met some awesome travelers at El Refugio that were very kind, talkative, and really nice....

We had a fantastic time at this hostel: the staff are super lovely and we met some great people staying there, too. The showers are hot (the top bathroom is particularly roomy), the kitchens (two!) are good and the lounge area is cosy with a fireplace and comfy seating. House dog and cat are cute also! We stayed in the...

Central location and near bus station. Staff were friendly and helpful. The living area was perfect to chill out in in the evenings with warm fire. Nice kitchen and dorm upstairs is a decent size. Would stay here again

What a place to start your trip. Me and my mate went to stay at Chilli Kiwi but it was full. So we went over to El refugio as it's sister hostel to Chilli Kiwi. Felt right at home as soon as we entered the place. It was super relaxed and everyone was friendly. Staff were great and they were...

Great communal area with a fire, dog and always some people around. Most of the staff is helpful, however one Ecuadorian guy is smoking a lot just in the doorway, so you will sometimes smell the smoke inside, e.g. when we had breakfast. Other staff always asks how your day was and give you a lot of information on the...

I thought i reviewed this hostel. Apparently not. Went there January 2014. One of the most amazing experiences in my life. Backpacked south america for 2 months, stayed at hotels, hostels, camped on the road... this hostel was one of the most fun, best atmosphere i've seen. Staff Eve, Liz and Alison were super helpful, fun. Owner was amazing. Got...

What can I say? Chile is my seventh country, and in each country i´ve probably stayed in at least 3 hostels, and El Refugio is by far the best. The layout of the hostel is great, as it means that when you walk in from a day of activities, you walk straight in to the lovely lounge, which is all...

Small and very sweet! Great service in booking tours and changing them spontaneous because of the weather. Livingroom was really cozy with a fire and Negra the house dog. Would definitely go there again maybe in the summer time!

I stayed in this hostel for 2 nights. The staffs were nice and helpful. Bed was comfortable, and the lounge is really good to make friends. For the price, this is definitely a best choice. Just next to the rural bus terminal and in front of pullman bus terminal,JAC terminal just a block distance. Walk 2 blocks to town,it's an awesome location!...

Best hostel experience I've had. The hostel is a renovated house, so it's very cozy with a spacious living room. The beds are super comfy, and the best part is the staff. Heidi and Santi arranged all of our activities, and even called around to a few different places to find the best prices. We didn't need to figure out...

“The dome tent is the best value. I stayed there for 4 nights and loved it. Be sure to bring earplugs because early mornings with guests can leave you grumbling. I also recommend bringing a flashlight for the evening and an eye mask to block the morning sun from waking you to0 early.”
